Fake watermelons stuffed with drugs seized at US-Mexico border

A truckload of methamphetamine disguised as a shipment of watermelons was seized at a US-Mexico border crossing in San Diego, US Customs and Border Protection said.
The methamphetamine, valued at more than five million dollars (£3.8 million), was found on August 16 when the cargo aboard a tractor-trailer from Mexico was unloaded for a detailed inspection, the agency said in a statement.
Among real watermelons, officers found 1,220 packages wrapped in paper coloured to look like watermelon skins…
‘Equal rights for religion’: Protest in Poland against reduction of religious lessons in schools

Hundreds gathered at Castle Square in Warsaw on Wednesday to protest changes to religious classes in schools, with demonstrators warning that these new policies could phase out religion and ethics classes through what they call a “backdoor method.”
The protest, led by the Association of Lay Catechists, was organized in response to the Ministry of Education’s decision to reduce the number of religious education hours in Polish schools. The group is also urging President Andrzej Duda to refer the ministry’s ruling, issued by Minister Barbara Nowacka, to the Constitutional Tribunal for review.
The demonstration kicked off with a performance by religious class teachers, representing nearly 30,000 educators nationwide, the majority of whom are laypersons.
The brief skit illustrated the influence of religious education on the development of other subjects like history, philosophy, geography, and literature…..
Watchdog pushes for investigation of FDA official’s conflict of interest

A disturbing article in the New York Times reveals that while a senior Food and Drug Administration (FDA) official, Jeff Shuren, M.D., J.D., was in charge of regulating medical devices, his wife’s powerful Washington law firm was representing their manufacturers.
Despite ethics rules barring Shuren, the director of the FDA’s Center for Devices and Radiological Health, from working on matters involving clients of his wife’s law firm, he did not always fully recuse himself, according to the report. In July, Shuren announced that he was transferring to the FDA’s Office of the Commissioner, and will leave the agency later this year.
Dr. Robert Steinbrook, director of Public Citizen’s Health Research Group, calls on the Office of Inspector General at the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) to launch an investigation amid news of these allegations. He released the following statement:….
Media Mistakes in the Trump Era: The Definitive List (Updated)

162. Weds. Aug. 22, 2024
Axios, Reuters, and PBS’ Judy Woodruff repeated false claims that Trump was “on the phone” encouraging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to put off peace talks in Israel’s conflict with the Islamic extremist terrorist group Hamas, because a deal could help Democrat Kamala Harris.
Woodruff later apologized, admitted she hadn’t done any reporting of her own, and she also said she hadn’t seen that both the Trump campaign and Israel had denied the claims.

Supreme Court partly grants GOP request to enforce Arizona’s proof-of-citizenship voting law

The Supreme Court on Thursday partly granted a request from the Republican National Committee to make Arizona enforce measures requiring people to show proof of U.S. citizenship when registering to vote.
In what is likely to be one of many election-related disputes to come before the court ahead of the November election, the justices allowed for one of three provisions of the state law to be enforced.
The vote was 5-4 on allowing limited enforcement of the law with conservative justices in the majority. One conservative, Justice Amy Coney Barrett, joined the three liberal justices in dissent. The court, in a brief order, did not explain its reasoning.
Three conservative justices — Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito and Neil Gorsuch — said they would have allowed all three provisions to be enforced.
More than 40,000 people have registered to vote in federal elections in Arizona without providing proof of citizenship, although state officials say most are inactive voters, and only a small number will likely be affected. In the 2020 election, President Joe Biden beat former President Donald Trump in Arizona by just over 10,000 votes….

‘Show what ABC won’t’: Gaza ‘culture’ shocks Australians amid visa turmoil
Sky News host Andrew Bolt presents the unseen footage from mosques, TVs and musicals out of terrorist-run Gaza to shed light on the “culture” the refugees come from.
“The Albanese government is in such amazing denial about terrorist-run Gaza, about the danger of taking in nearly 3,000 refugees from there without proper checks,” Mr Bolt said.
“So tonight, I want to show you what the ABC won’t, what other commercial stations don’t and what I would bet 90 per cent of Albanese government’s politicians have never seen.”
Neuralink’s second paralyzed patient plays Counter-Strike 2 with thoughts

Neuralink/YouTube
Elon Musk’s Neuralink has reached a significant milestone, revealing that the second human recipient of its brain chip is now utilizing the implant to play the well-known PC game Counter-Strike 2.
The patient, known as Alex, suffered a spinal cord injury that resulted in the loss of control over his limbs. Last month, Alex underwent surgery to receive the brain chip, and the results are already making waves.
According to Neuralink, this advanced technology holds the promise of allowing individuals with severe physical disabilities, such as quadriplegia, to regain a degree of autonomy by operating computer-controlled devices with their thoughts.
Since receiving the implant, Alex has been able to use it to remotely control a mouse on his laptop, opening new possibilities for interaction with digital environments.
Alex’s newfound ability to play Counter-Strike 2 with the Neuralink implant marks a significant improvement over his previous setup. Before the brain chip, Alex relied on a mouth-operated controller called a QuadStick, which limited his gameplay to either moving or aiming his weapon at one time—never both simultaneously.
The blog post includes a video showcasing Alex’s gameplay, where he demonstrates his ability to easily navigate and engage with the game environment, highlighting the significant enhancement in his gaming experience….
US Navy could get 20x faster internet connectivity using Starlink satellite

Greg Meland/iStock
US Navy could soon start using SpaceX’s Starlink satellites completely to get high-speed network across its all bases and ships. The satellite internet connectivity is expected to boost the Navy’s operations.
Currently, the US Navy uses the Pentagon’s satellites for connectivity. However, six geostationary satellites used for internet access provide slow connectivity to the Navy.
To achieve faster speed, the US Navy has recently started using Starlink and the UK’s Eutelsat OneWeb.
The low-Earth orbiting satellites could boost connectivity for the Navy, and ships equipped with the set up of these service providers are expected to have internet speed of about 1Gbps.
“Known as Sailor Edge Afloat and Ashore, or SEA2, this new functionality utilizes low-orbit satellites to bring high-speed Internet capability to ships and shore sites,” wrote DoD’s DVIDS news service.
“What started as the passion project of Commander Kevin White, a combat systems officer aboard the aircraft carrier USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN 72), has turned into a sweeping new system with applications across the entire Navy.”….
Trump whistleblower-turned-Democratic House candidate accused in FEC complaint of violating federal law

VoteVets is a so-called hybrid PAC, meaning it is supposed to maintain one bank account for direct contributions in elections and another “non-contribution account” for outside ad spending. VoteVets endorsed Vindman, spent over $400,000 on TV ads boosting Vindman, and donated $10,000 to Vindman’s campaign, federal records show.
Federal law holds that super PACs and campaigns may not coordinate, including on communications. That rule would likely extend to hybrid PACs, according to Kendra Arnold, who runs a group called the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust, which is also planning to file an FEC complaint against Vindman.
“On its face, Mr. Tazelaar’s services to the campaign go beyond those of a typical volunteer,” the Functional Government Initiative wrote in its FEC complaint. “Indeed, the record shows that Mr. Tazelaar appears to be acting effectively as the press secretary for the Vindman Campaign. Answering all future questions on any subject is what a press secretary or communications director does. It is not a function typically performed by a volunteer.”
VoteVets likely made an “excessive contribution” to Vindman since the outside group already reached the contribution limit for the 2024 primary and general elections, the watchdog said in the complaint. It was signed by the watchdog’s director, Chris Stanley, ex-chief of the Census Bureau’s office of congressional affairs and a former longtime GOP Senate staffer…..
COMMENTARY :LGBT Group Walz Founded Wants to Trans Kids, Defund Police, and Abolish Borders

Democratic vice presidential candidate Tim Walz has boasted of founding the local chapter of an organization that demands the “abolition of the police, abolition of borders,” “reparations for all indigenous and black peoples,” placing males in female correctional institutions, and transgender procedures for minors without parental consent — all while concealing children’s transgender identity from their parents.
An LGBTQ website has said Walz’s behavior toward his students would get him labeled a “groomer” today. Walz’s wife, Gwen, is equally supportive of indoctrinating children in this group’s agenda, because she considers it part of her religious faith that “God created … some people gay.”
Tim Walz founded the local chapter of the GSA Network at Mankato West High School in the late 1990s. Numerous delegates highlighted Walz’s connection to the organization as he prepared to speak on the third night of the Democratic National Convention in Chicago.
“I want to hear from the man who stepped up to create the Gay-Straight Alliance in the late ‘90s — the coach who stood up for the kids who needed him,” a teary-eyed Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) told MSNBC’s Joy Reid early Wednesday evening. In a video that night, the Minnesota governor’s wife, Gwen Walz boasted, “When one of our students started the school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, Tim agreed to serve as faculty adviser, because he knew how impactful it would be to have a football coach involved.”…
California lawmakers, big tech strike deal over journalism funding

Wicks is the author of Assembly Bill 886, called the California Journalism Preservation Act, but the partnership announced Wednesday is a far cry from what Wicks’ original bill would have done.
The partnership includes the creation of a national artificial intelligence innovation accelerator. A private nonprofit will collaborate in its administration. Organizations linked to journalism, racial equity, the environment and others will receive funds and other support to work with AI. It’s anticipated the AI accelerator will complement the news transformation fund, leading to more tools that help journalists get and interpret public data.
Politico, which first reported the partnership, indicated that the AI accelerator would get at least $40 million a year in a draft agreement.
Some publishers, however, have some misgivings about the current partnership and status of the bill.
“The fundamental problem in news publishing today is Google’s complete and total domination of the advertising market,” Courthouse News Editor Bill Girdner said in a statement. “Google controls 97% of the Internet searches which puts them in a monopoly position. They use that position to charge local businesses a substantial monthly fee for ad placement in search results.
“But the news publishers that provide the grist of the search engine’s mill receive next to nothing from that enormous advertising income. In the case of Courthouse News, we regularly see more than 2 million readers in a month and receive less than $100 per month in ad revenue. This bill does not appear to solve that fundamental problem,” he added.
Media Guild of the West called the agreement “a shakedown” in a statement…..
New EU deforestation regulations a challenge for Namibian farmers
Namibia’s minister of agriculture has urged farmers in the Southern African country to look at alternative markets for its charcoal and beef products since the European Union, one of its largest trading partners, has implemented nontariff barriers that came into force in 2023.
A unilateral decision by the European Union to impose regulations on agricultural products from Namibia that come from areas that have been deforested has raised concerns regarding market access for products such as beef and charcoal.
These products will no longer have access to the European market unless they comply with the new rules that Namibian Minister of Agriculture Calle Schlettwein describes as stringent and prohibitive.
Director of Forestry at Namibia’s Ministry of Environment, Johnson Ndokosho, says the ambiguities in the country’s law regarding what is considered a forest, woodlands and savannah are being dealt with in the new Forestry Act, which is being revised.
He cautioned that Namibia is at the mercy of the EU when it comes to whether Namibia’s beef and charcoal will still be able to enter their market….
‘Two of the worst parents’: Appalled judge locks up mom and dad of 7 who kept hungry, sick kids inside trailer house of horrors as their lizard was fed salmon for TikTok followers

The mother and father of seven children, ranging in age from 4 to 16 years old, were sentenced to prison in Pennsylvania on Tuesday and ordered not to contact their kids until they turn 18 and “only with approval of a court-appointed therapist” months after pleading guilty in a trailer house of horrors case, where caged animals were treated better and one creature, an exotic Tegu lizard, was fed salmon on its own TikTok account as all but one of the kids were malnourished, prosecutors say.
According to the Bucks County District Attorney’s Office, Shane Robertson, 48, and Crystal Robertson, 38, will go to state prison for the next eight to 16 years in the felony child endangerment and animal neglect case, a prosecution that had included allegations of assault.
The case began in April 2023, when the Pennridge Regional Police Department received a report about two girls wandering outside of their Green Top Trailer Park home in Sellersville entering an abandoned trailer and taking items….
Sex offender who ‘threatened to kill Trump’ on loose in border region where former president is set to speak

Cops in Arizona are hunting for a convicted sex offender who allegedly threatened to kill Donald Trump — and they believe he’s on the loose in the border region where the former president is set to speak Thursday.
Ronald Lee Syrvud has several outstanding warrants — including for a DUI in Wisconsin and a hit-and-run in Arizona — where he is also sought for failing to register as a sex offender, according to the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office.
He is described as 6 feet tall and 220 pounds, and he wears glasses.
Trump will visit Sierra Vista, Arizona — which is in Cochise County — Thursday morning to “address the plague of migrant crime that so-called Border Czar, comrade Kamala Harris has unleashed on America,” he said on Truth Social Wednesday….

IDF confirms signs of bullet wounds found on hostage bodies recovered from Gaza

Preliminary findings were received from Israel’s National Institute of Forensic Medicine, which performed autopsies and examined the bodies of the six hostages, the military stated.
According to the IDF report, marks indicating bullets and wounds were found on the bodies of the six hostages. Additionally, four bodies found next to the hostages in the Gaza Strip were assumed to be terrorists, and when examined, no signs of gunshots were observed.
The IDF noted that these are preliminary findings, and it is not possible to determine the circumstances of the hostages’ deaths definitively. The investigation is ongoing, and findings will be presented to families and the public, the IDF confirmed.
A sex-offending pedophile whose victims were his children claims he’s female to avoid male prison

A male Illinois inmate who pretends to be a female to avoid being housed in a male facility where even inmates don’t take kindly to pedophiles had his wish granted when he was incarcerated in a women’s prison after being found guilty on multiple sexual assault counts upon children, Reduxx reports.
James Blessent, who goes by the name Michelle, is being held at the Logan Correctional Facility in Lincoln, Illinois. Blessent, 35, was originally arrested in April 2023 for five counts of predatory criminal sexual assault on a victim under 13 years old, as previously reported by Reduxx.
However in November of that same year, three additional charges were levied against Blessent, including an additional count of predatory criminal sexual assault on a victim under 13, one count of grooming, and an additional count of exploitation of a child.
The Bloomington Police Department posted on their Facebook account that the three additional charges are related to the original victim. During the course of Blessent’s trial, a second child victim under the age of 13 was identified. Both of the victims are Blessent’s biological children–a boy and a girl, Reduxx said.
When Blessent was arrested in April, a spokesperson for the Bloomington Police Department said Blessent was being treated as a woman due to his “gender identity.” ….

Jack Daniel’s renounces ‘woke’ agenda, latest iconic US brand to ‘bring sanity back’ to business

Jack Daniel’s has taken a stiff shot of “sanity,” warrior-against-woke Robby Starbuck claimed on Wednesday night – after telling Fox News Digital he had his sights set on another iconic American brand.
“Big news,” the movie-making activist posted on X. “The next company we were set to expose was @JackDaniels.”
Brown-Forman, the parent company of the Tennessee distiller, “preemptively announced,” Starbuck wrote, that it was renouncing a series of diversity, equity, inclusion (DEI) and left-leaning initiatives.
Among them, he wrote, are these: “Ending participation in the (Human Rights Campaign’s) Corporate Equality Index social credit system; Executive + employee bonuses/goals are tied to business performance not DEI; An end to ‘quantitative workforce and supplier diversity ambitions’; Cutting woke trainings.”…
