MS-13 teen gang member in the US illegally enrolled at Maryland high school despite being a murder suspect: report

Walter Martinez was 16 when he was able to attend classes at Edgewood High School in Harford County for several months in late 2022 as cops probed the gruesome death of 20-year-old Kayla Hamilton, Fox45 reported.

The gang banger — who had entered the US illegally from El Salvador just months before the slaying — had been identified as the main perp immediately after Hamilton’s body was discovered raped, strangled and bound inside her trailer on July 27, 2022, according to authorities.

But even though surveillance video put Martinez at the scene of the crime, the DNA evidence needed to eventually charge him took six months to be processed.

In the meantime, the known gang banger was allowed to enroll at the local school without law enforcement agencies warning the Harford County Public Schools District about the ongoing investigation.

Under Maryland law, authorities — including immigration officials — weren’t required to inform administrators of his suspect status because the teen hadn’t yet been charged.

The details regarding Martinez’s enrollment at the school only surfaced this week after the gang member pleaded guilty last month over Hamilton’s murder…..

Colorado Man Who Massacred Ex-Girlfriend’s Family After Breakup and Then Fled to Mexico Gets Life Sentence

Joseph Castorena (above) will serve four consecutive life sentences.APD

Arapahoe County District Judge David Karpel sentenced Joseph Castorena, 23, to four consecutive life sentences plus an additional 24 years after a jury found him guilty of four counts of first-degree murder and a single count of attempted murder following a nine-day trial back in May.

Castorena’s ex-girlfriend had been granted a restraining order just one week before the murders back in October 2022, according to the Office of the District Attorney for Colorado’s 18th District (DA)

She then arrived home with her two children the night before Halloween and found Castorena’s keys in her bedroom, according to the DA.

The ex-girlfriend immediately called 911 to report that her ex may be hiding out in the home, but soon after she connected with the dispatcher shots could be heard ringing out in the house, according to the DA…..

Wife of California inmate wins $5.6 million in settlement for strip search

Christina and Carlos Cardenas. Allred, Maroko & Goldberg via AP

“My motivation in pursuing this lawsuit was to ensure that others do not have to endure the same egregious offenses that I experienced,” Cardenas said.

Of the $5.6 million settlement, the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation will pay $3.6 million and the rest will be paid by the other defendants, which include two correctional officers, a doctor, and the Adventist Health Tehachapi Valley hospital.

Prison officials conducted their searches on the basis of a warrant, which said a strip search could only be conducted if an X-ray found any foreign objects that could be contraband in Cardenas’ body, her attorneys said.

However, neither the X-ray or CT scan found any evidence of such.

She was also put in handcuffs in a “humiliating perp walk” while being taken to and from the hospital, and denied water or use of a bathroom during the majority of the search process.

She was told she had to pay for the hospital’s services and later received invoices for a combined total of more than $5,000. Despite no contraband being found in any of her belongings or her body, Cardenas was denied her visit with her husband…..

Underwater spy: How herring fish farts caused confusion during Cold War

Herring gather in large groups, making it easy for the Spy in the Ocean’s robotic herring to join them. The video showcases as the robotic herring gets closer to the school, and the strange sound becomes audible.

This unique ability is thought to be a form of communication or a way to adjust their buoyancy in the water.

IFL Science reported that the herring’s distinctive swim bladder once became a matter of international security concern.

In 1982, Swedish officials were baffled by mysterious underwater signals in the Stockholm archipelago. After the Cold War, Sweden was on high alert for Russian submarine activity.

Back then, Sweden launched a massive search for these signals, involving submarines, boats, and helicopters.

They feared a Russian threat, but the truth was far more… gassy…..

The operation, which ran from Aug. 12-23, netted 205 suspects arrested across five counties on various charges ranging from the continuous sexual abuse of a child under 10 to the distribution of child sexual abuse material, the Los Angeles Police Department announced.

“Through (investigators’) diligent efforts, vulnerable children were rescued from further abuse, and victims who had been silenced by the atrocious crimes of child sexual abuse found their voices restored,” police said. “Justice was served during the Operation Online Guardian as numerous suspects, who sought to prey on our young through social media and chat applications, were apprehended and brought to face the consequences of their actions.”

Authorities in the first phase of the operation conducted proactive undercover investigations on various social media platforms. Then, police served search warrants at homes throughout the five counties and executed arrest warrants, police said.

Police said the LA Regional Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force utilized “digital forensic dogs” and the assistance of the LA County Department of Children and Family Service and the LAPD’s Gang and Narcotics Division and Vice Units to arrest 205 people on a range of charges, including:….

Gun-Controlled NYC: Mom Shot in Face, Killed in Front of Son

The New York Post reported that “two suspects in black ski masks allegedly followed the victim’s husband into the building and into the elevator, where they attempted to rob him.”

The mother, Ying Zhu Liu, and her 32-year-old son were waiting for the dad to exit the elevator and realized what was happening when the doors opened. Liu tried to help her husband, and one of the suspects allegedly pulled a gun and shot her in the face.

PIX11 noted that the suspects fled the scene after the shooting. One of them “was last seen wearing a half-red, half-black hoodie, black and white shoes, black pants with a white stripe down the leg and a black ski mask.”

The other suspect is described as “wearing all black with a ski mask and black and white sneakers.”

Mike Bloomberg-affiliated Everytown for Gun Safety ranks New York the number two state for gun control in the country, second only to California. And New York City has gun licensing requirements that exceed those in the rest of the state….

Russia launches massive naval drills with China

The Russian military on Tuesday launched massive naval and air drills spanning across both hemispheres and including China in joint maneuvers.

The “Ocean-24” exercise spans the Pacific and Arctic Oceans, the Mediterranean, Caspian and Baltic Seas and involves over 400 warships, submarines and support vessels, more than 120 planes and helicopters and over 90,000 troops, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement. The maneuvers will continue through Sept. 16, the ministry said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin said in comments to military officials that the war games are the largest of their kind in three decades, and that China’s warships and planes were taking part. China confirmed that on Monday, saying the two countries’ navies would cruise together in Pacific, but gave no details.

A total of 15 countries have been invited to observe the drills, Putin said, without naming them…..

New York Attorney General Letitia James Produces Guide Encouraging Citizens To Flag “Misleading” Online Speech

Anybody who’s spent time in New York City (and even broader, the state) is likely to tell you – New Yorkers are empowered, alright. By their very nature.

Direct and opinionated – do they really need the government to “empower” them some more? And to do what – snitch on fellow citizens?

But that’s the gist of what New York Attorney General Letitia James is now proposing, all buzzing with buzzwords like “election misinformation” (“AI generated,” mind), and just in general, what somebody might decide to consider “misleading” online content.

“The OAG (Office of Attorney-General) will operate an Election Protection Hotline, which voters can contact to ask questions and file complaints during the voting period” – said a press release.

And while at it, waste no time. Report your fellow New Yorker now. James has announced a guide, including on how to report “AI misinformation” ahead of the presidential elections….

Exclusive: California’s homeless population grew again this year, especially in these counties

Photo by Loren Elliott for CalMatters

New data shows nearly 186,000 people now live on the streets and in homeless shelters in California, proving the crisis continues to grow despite increasing state and local efforts to stem the tide.

That’s according to an exclusive CalMatters analysis of the latest results of the point-in-time count, a federally mandated census that requires counties to tally their unhoused residents over the course of one night or early morning in January.

CalMatters’ analysis is based on data from the 32 counties that have reported it so far this year.

In counties that made progress this year, officials say they added more shelter beds and affordable housing – much of it through federal funding related to the COVID-19 pandemic or other new state money.

But experts warn these numbers should be taken with a grain of salt.

The county that reported the biggest increase in homelessness (San Joaquin) and the one that reported the biggest decrease (Sacramento) both changed the way they counted this year – calling into question how accurately this count can be compared to prior years.

And in every county, experts warn the tally is likely an undercount, as volunteers are sure to miss people sleeping tucked away out of sight….

Something Strange is Happening in Springfield, Ohio

What happens when your front porch gets crowded with 20,000 new neighbors who you have very little in common with?

That scenario is knocking at the door of Springfield, Ohio—where up until recently, life was rolling by like a slow Sunday afternoon, but this week, Springfield is at the center of something much bigger, something its citizens didn’t ask for, nor were they prepared for.

But thanks to the federal government, Springfield locals now feel like total strangers in their hometowns.

Ohio residents in small town erupt over havoc caused by massive influx of 20,000 of Haitians

Residents in Ohio are fuming about the cultural clash between locals and Haitian migrants at city council meetings, demanding the city take action on the issue.

Thousands of Haitians have arrived in Springfield since the COVID-19 pandemic, and residents have been pointing to an uptick in crime, mayhem and car crashes due to the massive influx of new residents. In a town of 58,000 people, about 20,000 Haitians have arrived, according to city officials

“I see what’s going on in the streets. And I see you guys sitting up there and, comfy chairs and suits… I really challenge you guys to get out here and do something,” said Anthony Harris, 28. “These Haitians are running into trash cans. They’re running into buildings. They’re flipping cars in the middle of the street, and I don’t know how like, y’all can be comfortable with this.” …
