Hurricane Milton is now 175 mph Cat. 5 monster — as it threatens biggest hit on Tampa in 100+ years

Florida’s west coast is facing the worst hurricane threat in over 100 years, forecasters warned Monday as Hurricane Milton grew into a massive Category 5 storm.
More than 15 million Floridians were under threat from Milton, which has winds up to 175 mph, as the storm took aim at Tampa and St. Petersburg — threatening 8 to 12 feet of deadly storm surge.
The last time a Category 5 storm of such magnitude hit the region was in 2019 with Hurricane Dorian, which formed in the Bahamas and skirted Florida’s east coast.
But Milton has formed in the Gulf of Mexico, and is expected to slam into Florida head-on and bring the worst storm surges between the Anclote River, north of Clearwater, and Englewood, north of Fort Myers.
To make matters worse, the angle of the landfall could allow the new storm system to become the worst in over 100 years for parts of west-central Florida, Fox Weather reported.
Tampa hasn’t been hit with a major deadly hurricane since 1921, when 11 feet of storm surge inundated what is now the downtown section of the city, according to MIT meteorology professor Kerry Emanuel who said the whole city is low-lying and susceptible to flooding.
“It’s a huge population. It’s very exposed, very inexperienced and that’s a losing proposition,” Emanuel, who has studied hurricanes for 40 years, said. “I always thought Tampa would be the city to worry about most.”…
Woman charged with 3 murders in 3 days labeled a serial killer by police in Canada

“She is a serial killer,” Niagara Regional Police Chief Bill Fordy told reporters when asked if the label was fitting.
Sabrina Kauldhar, 30, was arrested at a suburban Toronto hotel after police linked the killings, determining the suspect’s description matched in each case. Police said detectives are also trying to identify a woman who was seen on CCTV footage on Tuesday buying clothing that Kauldhar had in her possession at the time of her arrest.
Kauldhar faces murder charges in the deaths of a 60-year-old woman in her Toronto home, a 47-year-old man at a Niagara Falls park and a 77-year-old man in a Hamilton, Ontario, parking lot.
Investigators told AFP the first victim in Toronto, who was found with “visible trauma” to the body, was known to her assailant.
Fordy said the suspect is believed to have randomly targeted her victims in Hamilton and Niagara Falls, identified by police as Mario Bilich and Lance Cunningham….
Data Breach Leaks SSNs of Over 230,000 Comcast Customers + More

A data breach has exposed the names, addresses, social security numbers, and birthdates of more than 237,700 Comcast customers.
The breach stems from a security incident at Financial Business and Consumer Solutions (FBCS), a debt collection agency Comcast previously used, according to a filing with the state of Maine on Friday, as reported by BleepingComputer and TechCrunch.
FBCS revealed that it had suffered a breach in February, exposing the sensitive information of more than 4.2 million people.
FBCS informed Comcast in July that its customer data had been affected, saying an “unauthorized party downloaded data from FBCS systems and encrypted some systems as part of a ransomware attack.”
Texas Sues TikTok for Privacy Violations Affecting Minors
The state of Texas has filed a lawsuit against social media giant TikTok, alleging breaches of the State’s Securing Children Online through Parental Empowerment Act (SCOPE Act).
The legal action was lodged in a Galveston County court, seeking to hold TikTok accountable for purportedly sharing personal information of minors without parental consent.
Designed to shield minors from the potential dangers of digital services, the SCOPE Act mandates that providers such as TikTok must not disseminate a minor’s personal data without explicit permission from their parents or guardians.
Moreover, the Act obligates companies to furnish parents with the necessary tools to regulate their children’s privacy and account settings.
According to the lawsuit, filed by Texas Attorney General (AG) Ken Paxton, TikTok has not adhered to these stipulations….
Childhood Sleep Disturbance Linked to Suicidal Thoughts and Behaviors Two Years Later

Kids who have a lot of difficulty sleeping are at heightened risk for developing suicidal thoughts and behaviors as they enter adolescence, a new Stanford Medicine-led study found.
The research, published recently in JAMA Network Open, tracked more than 8,800 youth ages nine and 10, none of whom had suicidal thoughts or behaviors at the start of the study.
Children with high or severe levels of sleep disturbance were more than twice as likely as solid sleepers to develop suicidal thoughts and behaviors over the following two years, the data showed.
Frequent nightmares conferred especially high risk.
What’s Driving the Rise in ADHD Diagnoses Among Children and Adults?
Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is the most commonly diagnosed behavioral disorder in children, and the numbers are only expected to rise.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported that in 2022, more than seven million (11.4%) U.S. children aged 3 — 17 years were diagnosed with ADHD, an increase of one million compared to 2016.
The elevated numbers aren’t limited to children.
According to a 2021 report in the Journal of Managed Care & Specialty Pharmacy, 8.7 million adults in the U.S. have ADHD.
ADHD is a chronic condition characterized by difficulty focusing, restlessness and impulsive behavior.
If untreated, ADHD can have severe negative consequences on physical and mental health throughout a person’s life, including low self-esteem, chronic stress, fatigue and higher risk of substance abuse.
Ultra-Processed Foods Make up 60% of America’s Diet, Who’s at Biggest Risk
Super-processed packaged foods have become prevalent in U.S. diets — and experts are warning of the potential effects.
Recent research has shown that 60% of Americans’ daily caloric intake comes from ultra-processed foods (UPFs).
A study published by the BMJ revealed that exposure to UPFs was associated with 32 poor health outcomes, including mental, respiratory, cardiovascular, gastrointestinal and metabolic complications.
Some of the linked conditions include cancer, heart disease, metabolic syndrome, non-alcoholic fatty liver disease and type 2 diabetes.
While America’s diet is 60% ultra-processed overall, registered dietitian nutritionist Ilana Muhlstein warned that consumption among American kids is even higher than that.
Nearly one-fifth of sold EVs recalled over battery or charging issues

Carmakers have recalled close to one-fifth of all electric vehicles sold in the U.S. over the last 10 years because of battery or charging issues, including risks of explosive fires, showing the safety challenges the industry faces in the shift away from gas power.
As of the end of July 2024, battery or charging problems have caused automakers to recall roughly 17% of EVs and 11% of plug-in hybrid EVs sold since 2015, according to a ConsumerAffairs analysis of data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and sales estimates from Edmunds.
In total, nearly 645,000 EVs and more than 81,000 plug-in EVs have been recalled.
Battery fires are the most serious issue among the EV recalls, automotive experts say.
A warning to “park outside,” due to a risk of sparking a fire, was placed on 28% of EV recalls and 69% of plug-in EV recalls related to battery or charging issues….
American voters have more political fraud to deal with than ever before, surveys show

With just a month until Election Day, the gloves are all the way off. But it’s not what Donald Trump may be saying on a stage in Butler or Kamala Harris interacting with Oprah Winfrey on a YouTube telecast, but what fakers and scammers are doing to spread misinformation and trick Americans into contributing to funds that line no one’s pocket but a roomful of con artists.
Make no mistake: these bad guys are getting through. Transaction Network Services (TNS) data told ConsumerAffairs that political robocall volume has doubled since July. Efrat Tabibi, Head of Data at Guardio, said that these election fraudsters are also sending out 223% more unsolicited text messages than they did in April.
And they’re getting through with different pitches. Using previously unused “honeypot numbers” to set a trap for these scammers, TNS received political robocalls trying to direct Florida voters to illegitimate voting registration websites – calls that went like this:
“Hello, Yvonne. Records show that you’re not registered to vote at your current address. Would you like to register to vote now so that you can vote in November? You can visit [website] to register to vote online.”
Guardio added that it’s picked up on a rash of fake crowdfunding campaigns on legitimate crowdfunding platforms like ActBlue, Kickstarter, or GoFundMe to create fake donation sites that appear genuine, tricking people into donating money.
Enter a third study by Trend Micro, a security scam detection app builder. It revealed that a whopping 73% of people think scams have gotten worse in the past year, and almost 80% are worried someone in their family might fall victim. And get this – over half of the folks who’ve been scammed personally know someone else who’s been tricked, too….
Report: Migrants Frustrated with CBP One Delays Leave Tapachula, Form First Caravan Headed to U.S. Under Mexico’s New President

A large caravan of migrants, primarily families from Central and South America, has left Tapachula, Chiapas, heading toward Mexico City, with the eventual goal of reaching the United States. This is the first migrant caravan to form under Mexico’s new president, Claudia Sheinbaum, and reflects growing frustration over delays in processing transit permits through the CBP One app.
The migrants, many of whom have been waiting in overcrowded conditions in Tapachula, are demanding faster processing of their transit permits from Mexican authorities, which would allow them to travel freely through the country. Tapachula, a city on the southern border of Mexico, has long been a bottleneck for migrants, and delays in CBP One applications have exacerbated tensions.
As the caravan makes its way north, it is being escorted by Mexico’s National Guard, state police, and an ambulance for safety and medical needs. Mexican authorities have offered the migrants assistance with their CBP One applications if they choose to remain in Tapachula, but many have decided to continue their journey…
Elon Musk’s America PAC Offers $30/Hour and Bonuses to Drive Voter Registration Efforts in Key Swing States

In an ambitious push to increase voter registration in key swing states, America PAC, founded by Elon Musk, has rolled out a program offering $30 per hour to participants who help drive voter turnout.
Additionally, participants can earn performance bonuses and $47 for each referred swing-state voter who signs a petition supporting fundamental rights like free speech and the Second Amendment.
Speaking at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, Musk emphasized the importance of the upcoming 2024 election, urging Americans to take action. “This is the most important election of our lifetime,” Musk declared. He encouraged the crowd to make sure everyone in their networks registers to vote. “If they don’t, this will be the last election. That’s my prediction.”
Formed in June 2024, America PAC has already invested millions into crucial congressional races and aims to counteract the extensive get-out-the-vote efforts typically funded by Democrats. According to Fox News, America PAC was designed to support candidates who align with core American values, such as secure borders, sensible spending, safe cities, and self-protection.
Beyond boosting voter registration, Musk’s PAC incentivizes supporters with $47 for each swing-state voter they refer who signs a petition supporting free speech and gun rights. As Musk explained on X (formerly Twitter), the program is designed to gather one million signatures from voters in key states like Georgia, Arizona, Pennsylvania, and Michigan….
Supreme Court Rejects Biden Administration’s Appeal on Texas Emergency Abortion Guidance

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday turned down an appeal from the Biden administration seeking to enforce federal guidance requiring hospitals in Texas to perform emergency abortions when necessary to stabilize a patient’s condition.
The case centers around the clash between federal medical regulations and Texas’ near-total abortion ban, which only permits the procedure when a pregnancy threatens the life of the mother or causes substantial bodily harm.
In declining to take up the case, the Supreme Court left intact a lower court ruling that blocked enforcement of the Biden administration’s guidance in Texas, a decision hailed by anti-abortion advocates.
The Justice Department had argued that the federal Emergency Medical Treatment and Labor Act (EMTALA), passed in 1986, mandates that hospitals provide emergency medical care, including abortions when required to stabilize patients.
The Biden administration issued the guidance in July 2022, shortly after the Supreme Court overturned the 1973 Roe v. Wade decision, which had previously legalized abortion nationwide. The administration’s guidance was aimed at ensuring access to emergency abortions even in states where abortion is otherwise banned.
The guidance specified that under EMTALA, physicians must provide abortions if necessary to treat a medical emergency, asserting that federal law preempts state abortion bans. This federal mandate, according to the guidance, applies regardless of state laws that offer no exceptions for medical emergencies or have exceptions deemed too restrictive…..

Four American hostages remain in Hamas captivity a year after Oct. 7 massacre

Blinken, who on Monday called Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack on Israel the “largest massacre of Jews since the Holocaust,” also said “It is time to reach a ceasefire agreement that brings the hostages home, alleviates the suffering of the Israeli and Palestinian people, and ultimately brings an end to this war.”
The youngest of the hostages, 20-year-old Edan Alexander, graduated from Tenafly High School in New Jersey in 2022 before volunteering to serve with the IDF.
“He was kidnapped Oct. 7th from his post, from the IDF post, and since then, we have no additional information about this abduction,” his father Adi has said.
Adi and his wife Yael wrote an opinion piece in the New York Times in September saying that for hundreds of days “the world has failed our son and his fellow hostages: The Israeli government has abandoned them, too many countries have turned a blind eye, and while we’re grateful for the U.S. government’s steadfast support, its efforts have yet to yield results. …

Report: Houthis Receive Weapons From Russian Arms Dealer We Traded for Brittney Griner

We traded Russian arms dealer Viktor Bout, known as the “Merchant of Death,” for WNBA player Brittney Griner.
Bout is so notorious that Hollywood based the movie Lord of War on him. He sold weapons to Africa, the Middle East, and South America for decades before the U.S. caught him in 2008.
Well, Bout reentered the weapons business, according to The Wall Street Journal:
Since his release, Bout has joined a pro-Kremlin far-right party and won a seat in a local assembly in 2023, seemingly turning the page on his days as an arms broker. But when Houthi emissaries went to Moscow in August to negotiate the purchase of $10 million worth of automatic weapons, they encountered a familiar face: the mustachioed Bout, according to a European security official and other people familiar with the matter.
The potential arms transfers, which have yet to be delivered, stop well short of the sale of Russian antiship or antiair missiles that could pose a significant threat to the U.S. military’s efforts to protect international shipping from the Houthis’ attacks.
The Wall Street Journal did not have evidence that Russia sent weapons to the Houthis or that Bout had a hand in anything…..

FOOTAGE: Glenn Beck interviews lone FEMA crew in Asheville about Hurricane Helene relief
While he was visiting the Hurricane Helene disaster zone in Asheville, North Carolina, Glenn Beck spotted a lone FEMA truck parked OFF the main road in an area where residents couldn’t easily see it.
So, Glenn and Rep. Cory Mills stopped to talk with the FEMA workers and get their side of the story. They tell Glenn that they arrived in town nearly a WEEK after the hurricane, that they still didn’t have all their supplies, and that victims could find where they were by listening to radio or TV broadcasts (although many victims didn’t have access to TVs, radios, or even living rooms and cars).
Plus, the workers seemed to have a misunderstanding about whether they would go door to door. So, did FEMA drop the ball on this mission?
