California’s Top Military Commander Displayed ‘Gay As F—’ Flag in His Office Before Newsom Promoted Him

California’s top military commander, tasked with safeguarding the state from wildfires and other natural disasters, displayed a profane gay pride flag in his office just weeks before Gov. Gavin Newsom appointed him to lead the California National Guard in 2022, according to a photo obtained by the Washington Free Beacon.
Major General Matt Beevers featured a flag that read “gay as fuck” in his office at the California National Guard’s headquarters in Sacramento, the July 2022 photo taken inside his office shows. Newsom appointed Beevers, a married heterosexual man, to lead the Guard one month after the photo was taken. The flag was displayed in Beevers’s office for several months before a servicemember of the California National Guard took the photo, the servicemember told the Free Beacon.
Former California National Guard officers who served under Beevers said the vulgar display—and his other actions in office—raise serious questions about whether his focus on “woke DEI priorities” over operational excellence has hampered the Guard’s ability to properly respond to natural disasters including the deadly Los Angeles fires earlier this month.
That includes Beevers’s decision to dismantle a highly trained volunteer firefighting force under his command just months before the outbreak of the Los Angeles fires, a move that rendered the Guard incapable of sending a complete firefighting force to the city until 10 days after the fires broke out, the Free Beacon reported.
Newsom appointed Beevers acting head of the California National Guard in August 2022 following years of what critics describe as performative woke virtue signaling from the military commander. In 2014, as Beevers served as deputy adjutant general of the Guard, he participated in a “Walk a Mile in Her Shoes” event in Sacramento, where Beevers was pictured wearing what appeared to be black flats and carrying pink high heels…
Mexico—Friend, Enemy, Neutral, or Something Else?

Mexican nationals, likely cartel members, recently crossed the border and shot and wounded an American hiker. Did they assume that Joe Biden was still president, and so it was still a veritable open season on Americans without consequences?
Mexico also recently balked at allowing a U.S. transport plane to land, returning its own nationals apprehended as illegal aliens.
Was its attitude that Alejandro Mayorkas was still Homeland Security Secretary and thus working with Mexico to ensure that millions of illegal aliens could stay in the U.S. indefinitely?
After four years of Biden’s appeasement, Mexico seems to assume that it has a sovereign right to encourage the flight of millions of its own impoverished citizens illegally into the U.S. and further assumes that it can fast-track millions of Latin Americans through its territory and across our border.
Mexico either cannot or will not address the billions of dollars of raw fentanyl products shipped in—mostly from China—and then processed for export to the U.S. by its cartels across a nonexistent border.
Mexico seems to have little concern that some 75,000 Americans on average die from mostly Mexican-imported fentanyl each year—more deaths in just the last decade than all the Americans killed in action during World War I, World War II, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War combined.
Who then is our friend, and who is our enemy?
This appalling death toll is in part due to the deliberate efforts of the cartels to mask fentanyl as less deadly narcotics or camouflage the poison by lacing it into counterfeit prescription drugs.
Mexico encourages its expatriate illegal aliens to send back some $63 billion per year in remittances. That huge sum constitutes one of Mexico’s largest sources of foreign exchange, surpassing even its tourist and oil revenues.
These billions are often subsidized by U.S. taxpayers.
America’s local, state, and federal governments provide billions of dollars in food, housing, and health care entitlements that allow Mexico’s citizens, illegally residing inside the U.S., to free up the cash to be sent home.
According to U.S. census data, almost every year, the trade deficit with Mexico has increased from about $50 billion twenty years ago to $160 billion today.
That astronomical figure neither includes the $63 billion American outflow in remittances nor the multi-billion income from the cartels’ illicit drug sales in the U.S.
Although one would never know it from the rhetoric of Mexican politicians, the entire Mexican economy, both legal and illicit, hinges on America accepting a worsening asymmetrical relationship….
Israel’s Ban on UNRWA Over Terrorism Ties Takes Effect

Israel on Thursday formally banned the main United Nations aid agency for Palestinian refugees from operating on its territory despite heavy diplomatic backlash, a move that humanitarian officials warn could have a disastrous impact on aid delivery and jeopardize regional stability in the long term.
The order against the agency, known as UNRWA, went into effect at midnight on Thursday, the Israeli Foreign Ministry said. But hours later, there was no change on the ground except in the most cosmetic sense — right-wing activists clambered up the high stone walls of UNRWA’s headquarters compound in east Jerusalem, yanked down the blue-and-white U.N. flag, hoisting up Israel’s blue-and-white instead.
The building was largely empty. Palestinian staff, who make up the large majority at the headquarters, were encouraged to stay home for their safety, while UNRWA’s international staff — about 50 aid workers — left for Jordan the day before as their visas expired…
US-Born Teen Shot Dead by Father in Pakistan in TikTok ‘Honor Killing’

A father who moved his family from the United States to Pakistan has been arrested after shooting his daughter dead in an honour killing over her use of social media.
Anwar ul-Haq, believed to be a US citizen, was charged with murder after he admitted to shooting his 15-year-old daughter Hira dead on Tuesday.
Mr ul-Haq had reportedly forbidden his daughter from making TikTok videos which he deemed ‘inappropriate’, and decided to kill her when she continued to post.
Hira’s family ‘had an objection to her dressing, lifestyle and social gathering,’ according to police.
The shooting happened on Tuesday in Quetta, the capital of Balochistan province, said Babar Baloch, a local police chief.
He said the father of the 15-year-old girl initially suggested that an unidentified gunman had killed his daughter, but after he was taken into custody for questioning he confessed to the crime.
Mr Baloch said the man’s brother-in-law was also arrested in connection with the murder, adding that both men had apparently objected to her sharing of ‘objectionable’ content on TikTok, which is used by 54 million people in Pakistan.
The family had lived in the US for 25 years, Mr Baloch said, before Mr ul-Haq moved them back to Pakistan recently….

Kash Patel enrages Adam Schiff in Clintonian battle over the word ‘we’ and a January 6 song

Sen. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., clashed with FBI director nominee Kash Patel during his confirmation hearing on Thursday, particularly over a recording of a song released by Capitol Riot inmates.
Schiff began by asking Patel whether he stood by prior testimony that he had nothing to do with the recording of the song, which the Democrat said featured President Donald Trump reciting the Pledge of Allegiance.
“[That] is interesting, because here’s what you told Steve Bannon on his podcast: ‘So, what we thought would be cool is if we captured that audio and then, of course, had the greatest president, President Donald J. Trump, recite the Pledge of Allegiance. Then we went to a studio and recorded it, mastered it, digitized it, and put it out as a song’.”
Schiff asked Patel why he had told Bannon that.
“That’s why it says, ‘we’ as you highlighted,” Patel incredulously shot back.
“Yeah, and you’re part of that ‘we’ – right – when you say ‘we’ that includes you, Mr. Patel,” Schiff angrily replied.
“Not in every instance.” Patel said, adding he had not personally participated in the recording or mastering of the single.
Schiff was undeterred: “Well, that’s new. So, when you said, ‘we,’ you didn’t really mean you. Is that your testimony?”
“Not unless you have a new definition for the word ‘we’,” Patel said….
Chicago casino project accused in lawsuit of not allowing White men to invest: ‘Blatantly discriminatory’

Bally’s Chicago is a $1.7-billion dollar casino and resort slated to open in the Windy City’s River West neighborhood in 2026.
The expansive complex is projected to be Illinois’ biggest casino, boasting a 500-room hotel tower with a rooftop bar, a riverwalk, thousands of slot machines and a 3,000-seat theater. Bally’s will be the city’s first casino; its bid was selected by then-Mayor Lori Lightfoot in 2022.
As part of the Host Community Agreement Bally’s signed with the city of Chicago, the casino committed to 25% minority ownership. The HCA was drafted in accordance with a 2019 state law expanding gambling in Illinois.
Currently, in order to take part in the casino’s $250 million initial public offering, one must meet its “Class A Qualification Criteria,” part of which states that an investor must be a “minority or woman.”
A minority is defined as “African-Americans, American Indians, Asian-Americans, Hispanics” and other groups deemed by the city to be “socially disadvantaged” including Arab Americans, per the Municipal Code of Chicago.
The Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty is suing Bally’s Casino and members of the Illinois gaming commission for what they allege is racial discrimination.
WILL is representing two would-be investors who say they were denied the ability to take part in the project because of their race – Richard Fisher and Phillip Aronoff – who are part of the American Alliance for Equal Rights, which is also a plaintiff in the case.
The lawsuit alleges that Bally’s is in violation of the Civil Rights Act of 1866, the first Ku Klux Klan Act and years of Supreme Court precedent by preventing White men from buying stock in their company. The suit also alleges that Bally’s is preventing shareholders from transferring shares to people who do not meet “Class A” criteria…
Roseanne Barr: Hollywood Should Get ‘Back in Touch’ with Americans After Making Itself Irrelevant With Woke Politics

Speaking with Variety, Roseanne said Hollywood should work with President Trump in order to get back to business and start making money.
“Hollywood has made itself irrelevant to the American people,” she said. “If they want to survive, they should work with the new president. American people elected him in an overwhelming victory. They should get back in touch with [them] and make some money, which I don’t know if they do or not ’cause they’ve proven to be ideologues rather than [business people].”
“What shocks me is the fact that they prefer to lose money and then explain that to the shareholders who apparently have no problem with that,” she added.
Roseanne, who was fired from the hit reboot of her show by ABC after referring to former Obama aide Valarie Jarrett as the offspring of the “Muslim Brotherhood & Planet of the Apes,” said that the Trump family regards her as a “loose cannon.”
“The Trump administration regards me as a loose cannon, which I am,” she told Variety. “I’m not a party line person for anyone or anything except myself. The Trump staff or whoever runs it, they’re a little afraid of me. I am a loudmouth comedian, so I understand it. But it really hurt my feelings. But what are you gonna do?”
Despite her past cancelation, Barr said she will be making a television comeback….
La-La Land, Once More

In 2001, now-Mises Institute President Tom DiLorenzo wrote about California being a “La-La Land” where rolling electrical blackouts were reminiscent of what happens in Third World countries. While keeping the lights on is now a bit easier in the Bear Republic than it was two decades ago, the recent Los Angeles wildfires have exposed the follies of never-ending progressive governance there.
California voters ended the career of the governor responsible for the blackouts in the early 2000s, but since then the state has become a one-party entity where progressive Democrats dominate statewide elections despite the disasters they unleash, thus proving F.A. Hayek’s point made in The Road to Serfdom, that in politics, the “worst get on top.” Despite the huge amount of wealth created by businesses in the state, California still “enjoys” the nation’s highest poverty rate, thanks to its progressive governments, thanks to the state and local government policies that have pushed millions of people into destitution.
But the latest onslaught of wildfires has brought a political response that demonstrates just how detached California’s ruling class is from reality. Moreover, instead of discrediting their brand of progressive governance, these crises actually further empower California’s progressive politicians. For those that doubt the truthfulness of Robert Higgs’ theme in Crisis and Leviathan that government-caused crises further empower those failed government leaders, California provides proof.
While progressives claim that only “deniers” don’t see climate change as a doomsday challenge that can be fixed only by rejecting oil, gas, and coal energy, California progressivism has produced another kind of denialism: wildfire denial. This denialism comes in many forms, all of them destructive and all a product of the current political climate in the state. I will list and explain them below.
California wildfires are a new phenomenon: Anyone familiar with the history of the American West knows that it has a dry climate where wildfires have been common, especially in California. History.org notes:
The archaeological and ecological record in California reveals a long history of wildfires in the state of California. In a study looking at pre-1800 wildfires, almost 1.8 million hectares were estimated to burn annually in California. This is about the level that has burned as of early October 2020 in California. Scientists estimate that the summer and autumn seasons were often filled with smokey skies of burning forests. This could be because forest cover was generally more widespread in the past, resulting in larger fires. Fires were also seen as mostly healthy for forests, as newer growth would sprout more easily after fires.
The big difference between the historical wildfires and the modern ones is that a lot of people in California now live in fire-prone areas. The 2018 Camp Fire was so deadly because it destroyed most of the town of Paradise and killed 85 people. The recent LA fires are significant because they destroyed entire blocks of houses that were built close to “environmentally protected” areas. Because so many people live in those areas, we have more deaths from wildfires, which then brings them more attention.
Fire suppression policies generally began in the West following the infamous 1910 Big Burn, which consumed more than three million acres of timberland and killed 86 people. The US Forest Service played a major role in setting the new policy of immediate suppression of any new fires and blocking attempts by local farmers and ranchers to engage in controlled burns. (Not surprisingly, the Forest Service, led by Teddy Roosevelt appointee, Gifford Pinchot, appealed to “science” for its disastrous fire suppression policies.) Like so many other things progressives have done in the name of “science,” the actual results were the polar opposite of what was supposed to happen.
Because of fire suppression policies of the past (and present), wildfires in California have much more fuel than would have been the case had state and federal officials permitted common sense forestry practices. Even the New York Times admitted that past policies have been harmful:…
U.S. Consulate Sends Out Travel Warning over Cartel Explosives in Mexico

The U.S. Consulate in Matamoros, Tamaulipas, issued a travel warning about drug cartels using land mines and other explosive devices in key border cities in the Mexican state of Tamaulipas.
After initially trying to conceal information about those devices and having previously tried to discredit previous alerts dealing with cartel kidnappings, the Tamaulipas government claimed to welcome the warnings and asked the public to be careful when moving through rural dirt roads.
Earlier this week, the U.S. Consulate in Matamoros sent a travel warning stating that shootouts have become common in and around Reynosa, particularly in the late hours and early morning.
The warning mentions a second concern dealing with the increased use of improvised explosive devices by cartel gunmen in the cities of Reynosa, Rio Bravo, San Fernando, and Valle Hermoso. The notice further details the recent explosion of a government vehicle that drove over a cartel landmine.
In the travel warning, U.S. consular officials listed the state of Tamaulipas as a level 4, the same designation used for active war zones.
Consular officials also warned travelers to:..
Revealed: Suspect Accused of Plot to Kill Trump Officials Is Transgender

The person who was arrested Monday for allegedly plotting to kill Trump officials has been identified as 24-year-old Ryan Michael English, who prefers to go by Riley Jane.
WWLP reported that English was arrested Monday after traveling from Massachusetts to D.C., allegedly to kill some high-ranking Republicans.
English’s alleged would-be targets included Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, House Speaker Mike Johnson, and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.
The Associated Press noted that English “was arrested at the Capitol after he approached police and said he had knives and Molotov cocktails in his possession and wanted to surrender, according to a Capitol police officer’s affidavit.” Another knife and some “firebombs” were among items found in English’s possession by investigators…

Tulsi Gabbard Illustrates Why She’s The Right Person To Reform America’s Intel Agencies

During her Thursday Senate confirmation hearing, former Rep. Tulsi Gabbard provided the definitive case on why she’s the best person to lead the Office of the Director National Intelligence (ODNI).
Speaking before the Intelligence Committee, the Army lieutenant colonel spoke of the importance of ending the political weaponization of U.S. intel agencies and restoring public trust in these institutions.
She specifically noted prior remarks by Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, who in 2017 ominously warned then-President-elect Donald Trump, “[Y]ou take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you.”
“For too long, faulty, inadequate, or weaponized intelligence have led to costly failures and the undermining of our national security and God-given freedoms enshrined in the Constitution,” Gabbard said.
The former Hawaii congresswoman went on to cite numerous examples in which intel agency employees undertook actions that undermined confidence in their ability to operate truthfully and transparently…
