The EU Wants to Cynically Use War for Debt Bonanza

The European political and financial elite knows that the war in Ukraine is lost but wants to use it as an opportunity to reach strategic independence from the United States.
As the future chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz said right after his electoral win on Feb 23: “It will be an absolute priority for me to strengthen Europe as soon as possible so much that it gradually really achieves independence from the United States.”
Such strategic independence needs money and investment—a lot of it—not only to boost defense but much else, like energy and innovation; areas in which Europe is lagging behind the US and China.
In order to have the pretext to implement this spending plan, the idea among the EU elite is to make sure that the war in Ukraine does not end too quickly. That way the conflict can be used to justify artificially injecting much needed money into the moribund EU economies.
First, there was a question of providing €20 billion euros of additional military support for Ukraine and that the EU self-imposed fiscal rules to be loosened using the existing “escape clause” in the event of “exceptional” circumstances, such as the bogus “defense of Ukraine” excuse.
As Bloomberg stated, “under this plan, EU nations would be exempt from debt and deficit limits when financing military expenditures. This marks a fundamental shift in EU financial policy, as such exemptions have previously been impossible under EU rules.”
Indeed, the EU elite does not want to follow the arbitrary EU fiscal rules: for Paris, the 3 percent limit of budget deficit to GDP is politically painful, and for Berlin, the limit of max 60 percent of GDP in terms of federal public borrowing seems like an artificial constraint.
Then there was a talk of a €700 billion euro defense package. Newsweek stated that: “Baerbock said the package could be worth some 700 billion euros ($732 billion).” French President Emmanuel Macron also confirmed this on March 2, 2025. “We will give a mandate to the European Commission to define our capacity needs for a common defense,” Macron said in an interview published in several French newspapers. “This massive funding will probably reach hundreds of billions of euros.”…
CBDC: Unraveling Impacts on Freedom, Economic Development, and Privacy

Recent research highlights a concerning trend: 84 percent of Americans are afraid to exercise their freedom of speech, according to a New York Times Opinion/Siena College Poll.
While this statistic alone is alarming, it only scratches the surface of a broader issue—the gradual erosion of personal liberties. This decline extends beyond speech into the domains of thought, cognition, and economic autonomy. As this erosion continues, new technologies threaten to accelerate it.
Among these is the development of Central Bank Digital Currencies (CBDCs), which have been at the forefront of recent policy discussions. Though marketed as innovations to improve financial inclusion and efficiency, CBDCs raise legitimate concerns about freedom, privacy, and government overreach.
To understand the potential dangers of CBDC adoption, it is critical to revisit Max Weber’s definition of state power.
In Politics as a Vocation, Weber describes the state as the institution that successfully claims a monopoly on the legitimate use of physical force within a given territory. This definition is particularly relevant in the context of financial systems.
Historically, markets have thrived on competition, innovation, and the decentralized nature of monetary policy. CBDCs, however, represent an attempt by the state to monopolize and centralize financial transactions under one digital umbrella.
Senator Kirsten Gillibrand has articulated that a CBDC could enhance financial inclusion, lower transaction costs, and improve monetary policy. While such benefits may appeal to those unfamiliar with economics, they conceal significant risks.
As Friedrich Hayek warned, government control over economic systems is a dangerous path, inevitably leading to greater centralization and reduced personal freedom. The “invisible hand” of the market has proven far more reliable than the visible hand of state intervention. The question is whether we are willing to trade efficiency for liberty….
United States takes ‘a step back’ in its exchange of intelligence information with Ukraine

Mike Waltz, national security adviser, confirmed that the United States had “taken a step back” in its intelligence sharing with Ukraine. The former congressman maintained in words picked up by The Guardian that the administration was “reviewing all aspects” of the relationship on that front.
CIA Director John Ratcliffe said in a conversation with Fox Business that there has been a “pause” on both “the military front” and “the intelligence front.” Both, he asserted, had been necessary to push peace negotiations forward and could be reversed: “I think [the pause] will go away.”
Donald Trump ordered earlier in the week the temporary suspension of all military aid to Ukraine. With the information of the last hours, it was made known that Ukrainian troops will not only stop receiving U.S. war equipment, but also intelligence information for the development of their tactics on the ground.
At the moment it is unknown, however, the extent of this measure. A source consulted by Reuters assured that the cut had been partial, but refrained from providing details. The partial or total shutdown of the intelligence tap was advanced from anonymity by several officials to The Financial Times, who asserted that the decision could significantly impair Ukraine’s ability to attack its enemy….
Russia welcomes suspension of military aid to Ukraine, Kiev insists: “None of us wants an endless war”

“It is probably the best contribution to peace.” This is how Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov assessed the decision by the Trump administration to cancel all military aid to Ukraine.
“It remains to see the details, but if it is true, it is a solution that can really push the Kiev regime into a peace process,” Peskov assured during a press conference as soon as the first details of the temporary suspension were known.
“We have to see how the situation will evolve on the ground,” the Russian spokesman said, adding that “the main volume” of military aid for the Ukrainian forces came from the United States.
Peskov also referred to the rapprochement between Washington and Moscow, assuring that for it to take its course, economic sanctions should be removed: “If we talk about normalization of bilateral relations, they should be free of the negative ballast of sanctions.”
Just days ago Russia announced a new ambassador to the United States, a position that had been vacant for a year. Delegations from both countries met twice and promised to meet again at least a third time, and there was even dialogue about a possible meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Days earlier, the Kremlin also assured that the changes in Washington’s foreign policy were aligned with the agenda of Vladimir Putin’s government, so it celebrated the direction taken by the Trump administration in its first two months…
Macron convenes European chiefs of staff and announces military reform to ensure peace in Ukraine

French President Emmanuel Macron gave a speech Wednesday on public television to announce a new French road map in the face of the threat from Russia and geopolitical changes in the wake of discussions over Ukraine’s future.
Macron, who is running to be the European leader to lead a European Union caught between the United States and Russia in the context of the ultimate negotiations for peace in Ukraine, touched on other dossiers such as the Trump Administration’s tariffs on Europe.
Macron, who held a meeting with Volodymyr Zelensky and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer a few days ago, detailed in his speech that France will increase its military spending. He promised his citizens that it will be done without raising taxes.
He also made several references to the future of Ukraine and a fair peace agreement for Kyiv which he said “will involve also, perhaps, the deployment of European forces. They would not go to fight today, they would not go to fight on the front line, but they would be there (…) once the peace is signed, to ensure that it is fully respected.”
In this regard, the French president announced that he has summoned the Chiefs of Staff of those countries willing to defend peace in Ukraine to a meeting in Paris next week…
Democrats Put Their Demonic Hatred For America On Full Display Last Night | Ep. 1549
Today on The Matt Walsh Show, if there was any doubt that the central conflict in this country isn’t political, but spiritual, then Donald Trump’s address to Congress last night settled the issue.
America now consists of one party that wants the best for people living in this country, and a Democrat Party that is willing to embrace its profound disdain for America. I will break down the speech from last night and the pathetic display put on by his political opponents.

25 Canadians stole $21 million in 3-year ‘grandparent scam’ from older Americans

Law enforcement said the suspects sat in call centers in Montreal and targeted older Americans in an operation that had been active since 2021.
The U.S. Attorney’s Office in Vermont announced on Tuesday, March 4, that the 25 Canadian nationals are charged with conspiring to defraud people across 45 states.
Prosecutors said the call centers used in the scam were run by five Canadians who were charged with money laundering in addition to the conspiracy charge.
Out of those charged, 23 of the 25 individuals were arrested in Canada on Tuesday, while the two others remain on the loose.
Prosecutors said the defendants often used the “grandparent scam” to swindle money from victims.
Scammers told the grandparents that their grandchild had crashed their vehicle, being arrested. They then urged the victim to send thousands of dollars to bail their grandchild out of jail, according to prosecutors.
Officials said that the scammers would claim the case was under a gag order and told the victims they were barred from telling anyone about the request for money.
After the victims sent the money through various methods, the money was wired to Canada, with some transactions coming through cryptocurrency, according to authorities…
Sexual violence used as war tactic against Sudanese children: UNICEF

- UNICEF said the war in Sudan is resulting in the rape of children. At least 221 cases, 66% of which are girls, have been reported since the beginning of 2024.
- Those numbers are just a glimpse because many survivors, especially the 33% of victims who are boys, are too scared to report their assault due to stigma and cultural taboos.
- The prevalence of sexual assault against children in conflict-ridden areas of Sudan is twice as high as in other parts of the world.
UNICEF released a report giving the world a glimpse into the ongoing conflict in Sudan.
Since 2023, the war has ravaged the population, forcing many to come face to face with the violence. However, in a recent report, UNICEF said according to first-hand accounts, children are enduring some of the worst of that violence.
The analysis reveals that both factions in the war –– the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces –– are committing abuse and human rights violations.
Armed men in Sudan are using sexual violence as a tactic of war, with the United Nations reporting at least 221 cases of rape, including victims as young as 1-year-old, since the beginning of 2024.
The U.N. report reveals 66% of the survivors are girls, while 33% are boys. Providers determined at least 16 of the victims were under the age of 5. However, many cases likely go unreported due to fear of stigma or a lack of access to authorities, according to the analysis…

Nine students found dismembered by side of Mexico highway after disappearing on vacation

The bodies of nine students who went missing on vacation in southern Mexico last month have been found dismembered by the side of a local highway — with a bag of hands nearby.
The group’s gruesome remains were discovered in the trunk of an abandoned vehicle and underneath a blood-covered tarp in San Jose Miahuatlan on the border of the Mexican states of Puebla and Oaxaca.
Four of the bodies were in the trunk, while the other five corpses were left under the tarp.
A bag with eight pairs of hands was also found at the scene, with two more hands left in the trunk, reported Periodico Central.
The bodies of the four women and five men, ages 19 to 30, all had bullet wounds and signs of torture, according to El Financiero.
The group, which was from Tlaxcala, was reported missing Feb. 27 when they traveled to the beaches in Oaxaca for a vacation.
A dark gray Volkswagen Vento with license plates registered in neighboring Tlaxcala was discovered Sunday afternoon around 150 miles southeast of Mexico City, said Periodico Central….
