Rand Paul: Gain-of-Function Research is the ‘Nuclear Threat of Our Time’

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) introduced the Risky Research Review Act on Wednesday, aiming to establish an independent board dedicated to overseeing and approving federal funding for “high-risk life sciences research” projects.

Under this proposal, a Life Sciences Research Security Board within the executive branch would be responsible for ensuring oversight over federal funding in life sciences research to safeguard public health, safety, and national security. Projects falling into this category would require majority approval from the board to receive federal funding.

The legislation defines “high-risk life sciences research” as any scientific inquiry capable of endangering public health. This includes research such as gain-of-function studies, genetic modification or synthetic creation of potential pandemic pathogens, and activities related to the collection or monitoring of such pathogens.

On Thursday morning, the Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs also convened an oversight hearing entitled “Risky Research: Oversight of U.S. Taxpayer Funded High-Risk Virus Research.” Testimony was heard from relevant field experts including Dr. Gerald Parker, Dr. Carrie Wolinetz, Dr. Robert Redfield, and Dr. Kevin Esvelt…

Moped-Mounted Crime Soars: Migrants Bring Third World Tactic To USA

Open-border advocates love to tell you that “diversity is our strength.” Unfortunately, illegal immigrants flooding into the United States are diversifying the criminal threats Americans face on city streets, exposing them to a tactic widely used across Latin America but rarely seen here — until now.

Latin Americans — and US followers of Phoenix, Arizona-based Active Self Protection‘s popular YouTube channel — are quite familiar with attacks carried out by two criminals riding a single moped or dirt bike — a modus operandi that facilitates both surprise and a quick getaway. Sometimes the criminals don’t even dismount. In other instances, one or both may get off the ride. Regardless, they frequently wield deadly weapons to compel their prey to part with valuables.

NYPD told Fox News that, earlier this year, they arrested two armed Venezuelans on a moped — and believe just this one pair was connected to more than 100 robberies.

Awash in hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, New York City is the top hotspot for moto-crime. “Mopeds as a means of flight from the seven major [crimes] is up over 400% since 2022,” an NYPD source told the Post, “and that’s when we believe we first started seeing the beginning of the wave of new arrivals.” ….

Limerick: Female bus driver shot with air gun in city, union says

A spokesperson for Bus Éireann confirmed that services in the area had been suspended following an incident in the O’Malley Park area of Limerick.

“This matter has been referred to An Garda Síochána [Irish police] and Bus Éireann will provide any assistance required, including making CCTV available to Gardaí,” a spokesperson for Bus Éireann said.

They said the driver “was reported to have received minor injuries” and had been taken to hospital as a precaution.

Describing the incident as “disgraceful and extremely dangerous”, Stephen Nugent, National Bus and Rail Union’s Senior National Executive Member, said the driver had just begun her second week operating bus services for Bus Éireann.

“[She] was approached by a gang of youths at a bus stop. They refused to pay their fare and began threatening the bus driver to let them on board the service,” Mr Nugent said….

Biden Appoints Social Media Censorship Advocate To White House Digital Strategy Team

The Biden administration reinforces its ranks with what some reports see as yet more ardent censorship advocates.

This time it’s Andy Volosky, whose “claim to fame” thus far has been to wholeheartedly support the banning of President Donald Trump by former Twitter (while Trump was still president).

Unsurprisingly, his other efforts are advocating for even stricter online censorship (“content moderation”) than what social platforms have been doing for almost a decade now.

Volosky has now been given the right to serve this administration as deputy director of platforms for the White House’s Office of Digital Strategy. Serving the people, critically minded cynics might remark, would probably require a different mindset and a different set of skills.

But depending on how long the current administration manages to hang on to power, Volosky may not be on in the new job for long…

DC Circuit upholds FCC approval of Gen2 Starlink satellite system

(AP Photo/Jae C. Hong, File)

A D.C. Circuit panel on Friday upheld a Federal Communications Commission decision to license a new SpaceX satellite system over challenges by Dish Network and the International Dark-Sky Association.

The three-judge panel, made up of U.S. Circuit judges Neomi Rao and Michelle Childs and Senior U.S. Circuit Judge Douglas Ginsburg, rejected concerns that the FCC had failed to consider the risks of signal interference or conduct the necessary environmental review.

Rao, a Donald Trump appointee, wrote the panel’s unanimous opinion — with Joe Biden appointee Childs and Ronald Reagan appointee Ginsburg joining.

SpaceX applied for a license to operate 29,988 low-altitude non-geostationary orbit satellites — they continuously circle Earth rather than remain in a fixed position — to deliver internet service as part of its second generation Starlink system. ….

2 Teen Suspects Charged in Charlotte Shooting Spree

Carlos Roberto Diaz, 18,

Carlos Roberto Diaz, 18, and a 16-year-old boy were arrested separately on Thursday, according to the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department (CMPD).

The teens are accused of five shootings early Tuesday that killed one person and wounded two others.

Officers noticed a suspicious vehicle as they patrolled the areas where the shootings took place. They pulled the vehicle over to conduct a traffic stop, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Deputy Chief Tonya Arrington said during a news conference.

The 16-year-old driver was detained and brought to CMPD’s Law Enforcement Center for questioning. Detectives then determined that he was one of the suspects involved in this week’s shootings, the police chief said.

A stolen firearm was later recovered from the vehicle….

2,400 Patients May Have Been Exposed to HIV and Hepatitis at Oregon Hospitals: Officials

(Lou Benoist/AFP via Getty Images)

In a statement, Providence Health said that it “recently learned that Providence’s comprehensive infection control practices may not have been followed by a physician during some procedures” at several hospitals, including Providence Portland Medical Center, Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center, and “other non-Providence hospitals.”

The individual who was allegedly responsible is a physician previously employed by the Oregon Anesthesiology Group, said Legacy in the statement. The unnamed person is no longer employed by Oregon Anesthesiology Group and the company is no longer contracted by Providence, it said.

Providence said in its statement that the physician “might have put patients at a low risk of exposure” to hepatitis B and C as well as HIV for 2,200 patients who were seen at Providence Willamette Falls Medical Center. Two patients seen at Providence Portland Medical Center were also exposed, it said….

Ex-intel chiefs called Biden ‘ineffective messenger’ to convince public Trump supporters are threats

The Homeland Intelligence Experts Group convened by the Department of Homeland Security, disbanded under a settlement with America First Legal, called President Biden an “ineffective messenger” for the group’s surreptitious campaign to convince the public that supporters of former President Trump are the bulk of “domestic violent extremists.”

The disclosure was made in AFL’s latest dribbling out of screenshots of the internal meeting notes from the group, which included two Obama administration proponents of the Trump-Russia collusion hoax, CIA Director John Brennan and Director of National Intelligence James Clapper.

Previous disclosures in the #DeepStateDiaries series showed the group proposed a reboot of September 11, 2001-style messaging against domestic wrongthink, called the “religious” and members of the military comparable threats as Trump supporters, and brainstormed how to convince parents and teachers to report students to the feds as potential extremists as a matter of “public health.”

Members also referred to a Biden White House “classified implementation plan” against domestic wrongthink….

“Nearly All” AT&T Customers are Affected by Massive Data Breach; What To Do Next

AT&T is facing severe criticism following a substantial data breach where hackers accessed the call records of “NEARLY ALL” its mobile subscribers, totaling approximately 109 million individuals.

This doesn’t just affect AT&T customers, it affects everyone those customers have interacted with.

In a statement to Reclaim The Net, the telecommunications giant confirmed that the breach occurred between April 14 and April 25, 2024, involving its Snowflake storage. Snowflake, a provider that facilitates large-scale data warehousing and analytics in the cloud, is now under scrutiny for security lapses in the wake of multiple breaches facilitated by stolen credentials.

Recently, the security firm Mandiant identified a financially motivated hacker group, known as “UNC5537” targeting Snowflake users. This has led to a series of data thefts, prompting Snowflake to implement stricter security measures, including mandatory multi-factor authentication for its administrators.

Hackers may attempt to use stolen data to craft convincing phishing emails or texts. Customers should be cautious about unsolicited communications asking for personal information or urging them to click on suspicious links….

“I Knew They Were Lying”: Children’s Hospital Whistleblower Reveals FBI’s Threats

Is the FBI intimidating a whistleblower for exposing the reality behind a Texas hospital’s “gender affirming care” for children? That’s what the whistleblower, registered nurse Vanessa Sivadge, believes.

She joins Glenn to explain why she spoke out against the Texas Children’s Hospital after reading about an anonymous whistleblower (Dr. Eithan Haim) in a report from Christopher Rufo, and how the Biden administration responded.

The hospital, she says, was coercing and lying to parents so they would allow their children to receive transgender “treatments,” which would make them patients for life, and she had been asked to do things that went against her faith.

But instead of caring about the children, the FBI wanted her help to unmask the first whistleblower. “It was very terrifying for me,” she tells Glenn. But she also emphasizes, “‘Do No Harm’ has to mean something…regardless of the consequences.”

Multiple Russian Soldiers Dead, Wounded in Military Site Shooting Near Ukraine – Baza

A shooting at a military deployment site in southwestern Russia’s Belgorod region near the border with Ukraine has left a number of Russian soldiers dead and wounded, media reported Friday.

Baza, a Telegram news channel believed to have links to Russia’s security services, said a manhunt was underway for a serviceman armed with a Kalashnikov automatic rifle and 70 rounds of ammunition.

It was not possible to independently confirm the report and Baza did not say how many people were killed.

Baza later said two soldiers were killed and one wounded after the shooting late Thursday.

The outlet posted a blurred photograph of a man claimed to be the shooter, identified as 29-year-old Alexei from the republic of Chuvashia in central Russia. His last name was not provided…

IDF finds Hamas, PIJ war rooms, drones, explosives, in Gaza City UNRWA HQ

During raids over the last week on a Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad combat complex embedded in a former UNRWA compound, troops of the Commando Brigade’s combat team, operating under the direction of the 99th Division, located significant terror infrastructure embedded in the facility.

Among the weapons and infrastructure located in the UNRWA complex were war rooms used for surveillance operations, parts for UAV assembly, tactical drones, rockets, machine guns, mortars, explosives, and grenades, the IDF added.

In other scans of the vicinity, during the army’s ongoing operational activity in the area, soldiers reportedly discovered a subterranean weapons and explosives manufacturing facility inside a university building.

On Wednesday, the IDF reported that troops of the 99th Division had, after opening an evacuation route for civilians, engaged and killed terrorists operating on the Gaza City UNRWA headquarters premises in close-quarters combat…..

Video: Biden admin’s VA helping pay for illegal immigrants amid veteran backlog: Report

A resurfaced report claims that President Joe Biden’s Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has helped process millions of dollars worth of reimbursement claims to medical providers treating illegal immigrants in federal custody while roughly 400,000 veterans and their families await medical treatment.

According to The New York Post, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has contracted with the VA’s Financial Services Center in Austin, Texas, since 2002 to process the reimbursement claims by medical providers who treat illegal immigrants detained in the U.S.

A July 2023 Department of Homeland Security report on “Healthcare Costs for Noncitizens in Detention” showed that the VA’s Financial Services Center processed 161,538 reimbursement claims in Fiscal year 2022. The report showed that ICE Health Services Corps paid roughly $94.3 million in taxpayer funding for the treatment of illegal immigrants.

While the VA has reportedly helped process millions of dollars in payments for illegal immigrant medical treatment, the VA’s website showed that 417,855 benefit claims by veterans and their families were still awaiting adjudication earlier this year….

The Hamas leader was reportedly also a major figure in the terror organization’s Operations Headquarters.

Since the start of the Israel-Hamas War, Showadeh has participated in the Shejaiya Battalion’s combat activities and directed many assaults on Israeli troops. …

Dutch leader Geert Wilders mocks Biden’s NATO summit gaffes, calls Zelensky ‘Putin’ and Kamala ‘Trump

Dutch far-right politician Geert Wilders mocked President Biden for misnaming Ukrainian President Zelensky of Ukraine and even his own Vice President at the NATO summit.

President Joe Biden dashed any hopes of garnering positive headlines, after the presidential debate disaster against Donald Trump Last month, when he stumbled over the names of some of the leaders at the NATO leaders’ conference on Thursday (July 11).

While attempting to introduce Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, President Biden stated, “Now I want to hand it over to the President of Ukraine, who has as much courage as he does determination. Ladies and gentlemen, President Putin.”

Realising his error shortly afterward, he attempted to recover, stating, “President Putin!? We’re gonna beat President Putin. President Zelensky. I’m so focused on beating Putin, we’ve got to worry about it. Anyway.”

In another slip, President Biden seemingly tried to refer to Vice President Kamala Harris as his main political adversary, saying, “Look, I wouldn’t have picked Vice President Trump to be Vice President if I didn’t think she was qualified to be President, so let’s start there.”…

Prager: NewsGuard Threatens Free Speech, Conservatives

Conservative thinker Dennis Prager says his online media organization, PragerU, has been targeted by NewsGuard, a left-wing news ratings service.

“They’re in business like almost every quote, unquote, fact checker, misinformation determinant,” Prager told Newsmax‘s “Rob Schmitt Tonight” show on Wednesday.

NewsGuard ranks media outlets on several self-created criteria and then subjectively and selectively picks the stories they will analyze from a news outlet.

Two Media Research Center studies found that NewsGuard consistently ranks conservative media with lower rankings than left-wing media.

Prager said before his Newsmax appearance, he checked on Google, not known as a conservative-friendly internet browser, “NewsGuard” and “COVID.”

“Anybody can do this, so I’m giving away how you find out about this on Google, which is not conservative-friendly,” Prager said.

“And it turns out that in 2020, they wrote what a lie and misinformation it is to imply that COVID was started in a Wuhan lab, that anyone who says that is engaged in conspiracy thought from right-wing crackpots. OK, just as an example.”…

Bodycam video shows Buffalo cop shoot and kill man who was dragging him on the side of his car after traffic stop

New York police released harrowing body-camera video from a traffic stop that went awry when the driver tried to speed away while dragging an officer and was shot and killed.

Also in the car was a 6-year-old relative of the driver.

The officer tells the man that he pulled him over for speeding and for having illegal tint on the windows of the car.

At one point, the child tells the officer it’s his birthday, and the officer wishes him a happy birthday.

Police said the child was uninjured. The officer suffered minor injuries and was released after treatment.

While police had not yet identified the deceased suspect, WGRZ-TV said it confirmed him to be 25-year-old Dae’von Roberts.

Roberts is the half-brother to Jaylen Griffen, a 12-year-old child whose remains were found in April in the attic of a south Buffalo home after he had been missing for four years.

Roberts referred to Griffen in the bodycam video….

Harvard Reverses Suspension of 5 Pro-Hamas Students

Charles Krupa / Associated Press

Harvard University has quietly reversed the suspensions of five students who violated campus policies in their anti-Israel, pro-Hamas, and antisemitic protests this spring, leading to dismay for Jews — and exultation among activists.

One activist, Prince Williams, took to social media to boast about the lifting of his suspension, declaring it to be proof of the power of organizing, and repeating the genocidal slogan: “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free.”

The Harvard Crimson reported:

The Harvard College Administrative Board reversed its decision to suspend five students for participating in the pro-Palestine encampment earlier this year after the Faculty Council criticized its handling of the cases.

The most severe probation charge will last for just one semester, a remarkable change from the initial punishments which required at least one student to withdraw from the College for three semesters. Some students who were initially placed on probation in late May also had the length of their probations reduced.

It’s not the first time Harvard has flip-flopped in its attempts to take disciplinary and administrative actions against pro-Palestine protesters. The College initially placed 20 members of the encampment on involuntary leaves of absence before reinstating them just days later, after the occupation ended….

California man accused of decapitating elderly parents, dog at mobile home park

Joseph Brandon Gerdvil, 41, is accused of killing, 77-year-old Ronald Walter Gerdvil and 79-year-old Antoinette Gerdvill, and their dog, according to a news release from the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.

Not long after discovering the bodies, deputies also received word that a “bloody male” was chasing a maintenance worker from the mobile home community and allegedly stole the worker’s golf cart.

Gerdvil was then found in the golf cart near a local bike trail exit, according to FOX 5 San Diego, which is where at least one deputy shot at him.

He was struck multiple times and taken to the hospital in critical, but stable, condition. It is unclear if Gerdvil had a weapon on him.
