Family of Missouri teen charged in savage Kaylee Gain beating claim SHE is the real victim

Gain suffered extensive head trauma, causing her skull to fracture, after her head was smashed into the ground in disturbing scenes caught on camera.
Now, the family of the 15-year-old suspect of the attack are raising $150,000 for her legal defense. They allege she was “harrassed and bullied” before the incident, and have fought against calls to charge her as an adult.
They created a Change.org petition urging the St Louis Juvenile Court to show “compassion” to the teenager.
The Change.org petition, however, is still up and running, and has received more than 470 signatures.
It says the caught-on-camera incident is “being used to define her character and incite racial divisions and political strife with the MO AG calling on the courts to charge her as an adult.”
Their petition reads: “It is unjust that such an accomplished young woman should be charged as an adult for assault without considering all the facts of the case that led to the incident where harm occurred.”
Gaza Gunmen Holed Up in Al Shifa ER, Israeli Military Spokesperson Says

Hamas and Islamic Jihad gunmen are holed up in the building of Al Shifa hospital’s emergency room in Gaza, where an ongoing army raid was expected to go on for a few more days, an Israeli military spokesperson said on Thursday.
“We are evacuating the patients, around 220 patients, to another building,” Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari said in a televised statement, “with appropriate medical equipment so that all the patients and doctors can be safe. We continue to call on all the gunmen in the building to surrender.”
Since Monday, the IDF has been mounting a massive military operation in an attempt to root out a resurgent Hamas presence at the compound, which Israeli forces first entered in mid-November.

New York attorney general makes first move to seize Trump’s assets

New York Democratic Attorney General Letitia James took her first step toward seizing the assets of former President Donald Trump as part of the more than $450 million civil fraud judgment he faces.
James’ office filed judgments in Westchester County, which indicates that the state is getting ready to try to seize Seven Springs, Trump’s golf course and private estate, CNN reported Thursday.
The filing is the first step a creditor takes to try to recover property. The next steps could be putting liens on assets or trying to force a foreclosure, among other things.
Over 100 migrants break through razor wire, knock down guards as they illegally cross El Paso border in wild scene

EL PASO, Texas — A group of over 100 migrants attempting to enter the US illegally rushed a border wall Thursday, breaking through razor wire and knocking over guards in the process.
The Post witnessed around 600 migrants massed at the international border, whom Texas National Guard troops were attempting to push back in small groups.
The situation grew tense as groups were separated out, and video shows the migrants crying out for help and rushing to the border gate. A group of men with hoodies, gloves and winter jackets pull the fencing away as a group of five guards stand in a defensive formation to fill the gap.
University of Memphis Tried to Sabotage Turning Point USA Event Featuring Kyle Rittenhouse, Organization Says

University of Memphis administrators tried to sabotage a Turning Point USA (TPUSA) event featuring Kyle Rittenhouse by issuing last-minute demands in order for the event to proceed, and then leaked private information to protesters, the organization said.
An audio recording also revealed a purported school administrator laughing after a TPUSA chapter leader told her he had been doxed by protesters.
But 30 minutes before that link was set to go live, this private information was somehow leaked to protesters, TPUSA said.
A few students affiliated with TPUSA had infiltrated a group chat in which protesters were communicating their plans with one another. While monitoring this group chat, the conservative students saw that protestoers had been tipped off to the re-ticketing plan.
A purported message sent to the protesters’ group chat read as follows:

Facing Putin Threat, EU Pushes to Arm Ukraine — And Itself

As a $60-billion package remains stalled in Washington, the EU’s 27 leaders will debate a plan to spend profits from 200 billion euros in frozen Russian central bank assets on weapons for Ukraine.
Officials said that the proposal could unlock some three billion euros a year for Kyiv and that if EU countries agree quickly, the money could start flowing by July.
That would come on top of more than 33 billion euros that the EU says it has provided towards arming Ukraine since the Kremlin invaded in February 2022.
Alongside the efforts to get more weapons to Kyiv, the EU is also frantically working on ways to boost Europe’s defence industry to be able to arm Ukraine and build up its own forces.
Brussels has put forward a raft of proposals aimed at ramping up capacity but there are complaints that Europe is still not moving fast enough.
TikTokker tells illegal immigrants how to ‘invade’ American homes and invoke squatter’s rights

Venezuelan national Leonel Moreno, who appears to live in a suburb of Columbus, Ohio, said in a recent video that under US law, “if a house is not inhabited, we can seize it.”
He appeared to be referring to adverse possession laws, commonly known as squatter’s rights, which allow unlawful property occupants rights over the property they occupy without the owner’s consent, in certain circumstances.
Moreno claimed in the viral TikTok clip, which has drawn more than 3.9 million views, that he has “African friends” who have “already taken about seven homes.”
US files antitrust lawsuit against Apple over iPhone ‘monopoly’

Apple joins a list of major tech companies sued by U.S. regulators, including Alphabet’s Google, Meta Platforms and Amazon.com across the administrations of both former President Donald Trump and President Joe Biden.
“Consumers should not have to pay higher prices because companies violate the antitrust laws,” Attorney General Merrick Garland said in a statement. “If left unchallenged, Apple will only continue to strengthen its smartphone monopoly.”
The Justice Department, which was also joined by the District of Columbia in the lawsuit, alleges that Apple uses its market power to get more money from consumers, developers, content creators, artists, publishers, small businesses and merchants.
The civil lawsuit accuses Apple of an illegal monopoly on smartphones maintained by imposing contractual restrictions on, and withholding critical access from, developers.

CBO reports grim long-term outlook for federal government

“Debt held by the public, boosted by the large deficits, reaches its highest level ever in 2029 (measured as a percentage of GDP) and then continues to grow, reaching 166% of GDP in 2054 and remaining on track to increase thereafter,” according to the CBO report. “That mounting debt would slow economic growth, push up interest payments to foreign holders of U.S. debt, and pose significant risks to the fiscal and economic outlook; it could also cause lawmakers to feel more constrained in their policy choices.”
The CBO further projected that the Social Security Old-Age and Survivors Insurance trust fund will be exhausted in 2033, the Medicare Hospital Insurance trust fund in 2035, and the Highway Trust Fund in 2028.
Maya MacGuineas, president of the Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget, said the new report should serve as a wake-up call for Congress.
“This is yet another reminder that politicians put political priorities ahead of the long-term health of the country,” she said. “There is no way to look at these eye-popping numbers without realizing we need to make a change. And yet we have lawmakers promising what they won’t do: I won’t raise taxes, I won’t fix Social Security, I won’t pay for all the things I do want to do. And so we continue on this dangerous path.”
California audit finds state is broke: $55 billion more owed than available

California just filed its 2021-2022 audited financial statement, 350 days past the filing deadline.
In its filing, the state admits that COVID-era unemployment fraud cost the state $29 billion that must be paid back to the federal government, and that in 2022, the state had $256 billion more in liabilities than it had in unrestricted resources.
After accounting for restricted resources, such as purpose-specific state trust funds and bonds, the state still owed $55 billion more than it had.
California currently faces a $73 billion deficit for the 2024-2025 fiscal year, to which the Democratic legislature has responded with a proposal to cut this year’s budget by $2.1 billion and a proposal to spend $12 billion, or half the state’s rainy day fund. With the state reducing 2023 jobs growth from 325,000 to just 50,000, revenues are likely to be much lower than expected.
With a significant expansion of benefits, including expanding taxpayer-funded MediCal to all illegal immigrants, and a major shift in illegal immigration from heavily-enforced Texas to California instead, state expenditures could end up being higher than expected.
