US forces fend off 10-hour attack of drones and missiles from Iran-backed rebels in the Red Sea

F/A-18C Hornets assigned to the Wildcats of Strike Fighter Squadron (VFA) 131 fly over the aircraft carrier USS Dwight D. Eisenhower. The Hornets were in action on Tuesday to shoot down missiles fired from Yemen into the Red Sea

“U.S. assets, to include the USS LABOON (DDG 58) and F/A-18 Super Hornets from the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, shot down twelve one-way attack drones, three anti-ship ballistic missiles, and two land attack cruise missiles in the Southern Red Sea that were fired by the Houthis over a 10 hour period which began at approximately 6:30 a.m. (Sanaa time) on December 26.”

The guided-missile destroyer USS Laboon (DDG 58) was on Tuesday shooting down strikes fired from Yemen

Shockingly, or perhaps in a show of American might, CENTCOM reported “no damage to ships in the area or reported injuries.”

After shooting down the drones, the USS Laboon responded to distress calls from two commercial vessels, according to the Daily Mail.

PARIS – The Eiffel Tower was closed on Wednesday, the 100th anniversary of its creator’s death, due to a strike, the company that oversees the tower, Societe d’Exploitation de la Tour Eiffel (SETE), said on the website of Paris’ most famous landmark.

“A symbolic action on a symbolic date,” said the CGT union in a statement, adding that staff members wanted to call out the current financial management of SETE.

They said they feared poor decisions could lead to a cash shortage, due in part to a lack of visitors during the COVID-19 pandemic, and to expensive repairs needed on the historical building.

Silence In The Face Of Hamas’ Hospital Atrocities Will Ensure More Civilians Die

SYEDA AMINA TRUST/CHARITY ORGANISATION/FLICKR/CC BY 2.0

When it comes to Hamas’ usage of al-Shifa and other commandeered hospitals, the international community has abdicated its responsibility. Indeed, the effective silence of the rest of the world only ensures that Hamas will continue to rely on civilian structures.

Despite corporate news outlets, such as The New York Times, attempting to portray Hamas’ usage of hospitals as a contested matter, it is not. Hamas has a long and storied history of utilizing civilian facilities — such as hospitals, schools, and mosques — for its military and terrorism operations.

As the military engagement continues, rife with accusatory misreporting, it is worth recalling the illustrative instance of al-Shifa Hospital in particular, a civilian medical complex that has served as the headquarters for Hamas’ operations.

Notoriously Secretive Hamas Chief Caught on Camera for First Time in Years

Mohammed Deif seen in a new photo in Israeli media.Channel 12

An Israeli television network has broadcast a rare image of Hamas leader Mohammed Deif — the first time the head of the terror group’s military wing has been pictured in years.

Channel 12 said the photo was obtained recently by Israeli forces operating in Gaza, but did not comment further on its provenance, according to the Times of Israel.

The photograph shows a noticeably older, grayer, and heavier Deif wearing glasses. He also appears to be missing his right eye. Previous media reports suggest the terrorist lost an eye in one of several Israeli assassination attemps against him.

The only other published photographs of Deif were taken when he appeared much younger.

James Anthony Feeley pleaded not guilty to all charges and was ordered held at Suffolk County Jail in lieu of $200,000 cash bail at his arraignment Wednesday morning in the East Boston division of Boston Municipal Court, court records show.

Feeley was ordered to wear a GPS monitor and to surrender his passport if he is released. In setting Feeley’s bail, the judge considered his history of mental illness, court documents show.

Prosecutors said the assaults had taken place over the past year and Feeley was arrested Tuesday night after an investigation by State Police detectives assigned to the Suffolk district attorney’s office. Prosecutors and victim witness advocates trained to work with child victims of sexual assault are working on the case, they said.

Many Asylum Seekers Don’t Qualify, Expect Entry Anyway

Luis Torres/EFE/Zuma

Some of the 11,000 migrants waiting in Mexico to enter the United States know they do not qualify for asylum, but they have received messages from past migrant crossers that it will not matter.

Under President Joe Biden, those who have gotten across the border, including with reportedly free flights and hotel accommodations, are sharing the messages with those that remain in Mexico, awaiting their potential crossing, CNN’s Rosa Flores reported on CNN’s “OutFront” on Tuesday night.

Flores’ report cited a Mexico shelter director that said potential crossers “know that they don’t qualify for asylum in the U.S.,” but they remain undeterred because of the word-of-mouth success at getting across into the U.S.

Impeachment inquiry expands to whether president obstructed Congress over Hunter Biden testimony

The House impeachment inquiry formally expanded Wednesday to the question of whether President Joe Biden “corruptly sought to influence or obstruct” Congress by keeping his son Hunter from attending a closed-door interview, according to a letter sent to the White House.

House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan said comments made by White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre suggesting the president was aware in advance of his son’s plan to give a press conference Dec. 13 rather than attend his transcribed interview as required by subpoena necessitated the expansion.

“The fact that the President had advanced awareness that Mr. Biden would defy the Committees’ subpoenas raises a troubling new question that we must examine: whether the President corruptly sought to influence or obstruct the Committees’ proceeding by preventing, discouraging, or dissuading his son from complying with the Committees’ subpoenas,” they wrote in a letter to White House Counsel Edward Siskel.

Jayden L. Kline, 18.

Before investigations, officials believed Kline had been hit by a vehicle; however, surveillance footage from a Ring camera depicted her falling out of a gold van after the driver fired a gunshot at her.

According to the St. Paul Pioneer-Press, Uso and Kline dated for around a year before their breakup. The separation allegedly occurred because he had not been honest with his family about their relationship.

On Tuesday, an Anoka County Attorney’s Office spokesperson said that while Uso is currently charged as a juvenile, prosecutors have filed to charge Uso as an adult.

Ukraine F-16 Speculation Mounts as Russia Loses 8 Fighter Jets in 3 Weeks

Kyiv had clamored for the jets, which would boost Ukraine’s ability to contest Russia’s dominance in the skies and launch more strikes on key Russian targets. The F-16s are equipped with more modern avionics and radars and are designed to launch the NATO-standard weapons Ukraine has been using with its older, Soviet-era jets.

In recent days, Russian-aligned or anti-Ukrainian Telegram channels have speculated that Ukraine may have made use of the advanced jets to take out key Russian assets, although there has been no confirmation that Ukraine has received the jets.

A U.S. source told Newsweek on Wednesday that it was likely Ukraine had indeed received the first of the promised F-16s.

Donald Trump to Stay on Ballot After Michigan Supreme Court Rejects Appeal on Procedural Grounds

However, the Michigan Supreme Court did not delve into whether or not it believed Trump engaged in insurrection as rooted in Section Three of the Fourteenth Amendment.

Rather, the court rejected the attempt to appeal, lodged by an advocacy group, on procedural grounds, leaving undisturbed the decision from the Michigan Court of Appeals.

The lower court determined that the question is irrelevant at this point in time in relation to Trump’s placement on the presidential primary ballot in the Wolverine State.
