‘We are open’: Documented migrants encouraged to make Topeka home

Topeka has roughly 7,000 open jobs. It also has a growing and thriving Hispanic community. It’s with that in mind that the city decided to merge the two: Use that growing community as a solution to their job openings.

The city recently started doing all of its marketing in both English and Spanish.

Matt Pivarnik, CEO of Greater Topeka Partnership, told NewsNation that the city’s pitch is pretty straightforward.

“Our message right now is that (Topeka) is one of the lowest cost of living in the United States. It’s an amazing place to live. But I think the message right now is we are open and welcome to everybody who wants to come here and be happy and prosperous,” said Pivarnik.

Brad Prada, a Topeka resident who came to Kansas from Colombia, said he’s even in the process of trying to bring his parents to the city.

Russian soldiers are on the verge of taking the town of Avdiivka in eastern Ukraine, a potentially key moment in the war.

Vladimir Putin’s men have tried to take the town for months as it could help them assert control over the Donetsk and Luhansk regions in the east of Ukraine.

Russia has lost a lot of soldiers trying to take the region, but reports suggest those efforts may finally pay off.

Telegram channel Butusov Plus added that Russian forces are constantly being reinforced, making the assault relentless for Ukrainian soldiers.

Special counsel says no charges for Biden for sharing classified documents

Adam Schultz of the White House | Facebook

President Joe Biden shared government secrets with his ghostwriter, but prosecutors don’t plan to charge him with a crime, according to a special counsel report released Thursday.

The 388-page Justice Department report found that Biden was careless with classified documents, but didn’t commit a crime.

“We conclude that no criminal charges are warranted in this matter,” according to the report. “We would reach the same conclusion even if Department of Justice policy did not foreclose criminal charges against a sitting president.”

Special counsel Robert Hur found evidence that Biden “willfully retained and disclosed classified materials after his vice presidency when he was a private citizen” but said the evidence “does not establish Mr. Biden’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Hours after telling reporters Sunday that El Salvador had overcome the cancer “with metastases that were the gangs” and is now set to recover and “be the person we always wanted to be,” Bukele took to the presidential balcony with his wife, Gabriela, to the sound of REM’s “It’s the End of the World as We Know It.”

After boasting about his latest accomplishment, Bukele gave a brief summary of the country’s triumph over crime: “We have gone from being literally, and this is no exaggeration — it’s not hyperbole — we have gone from being literally the most dangerous country in the world to being the safest country in the entire Western Hemisphere.”

Bukele told thousands of his supporters Sunday, “[El Salvador is] the safest country in the American continent. And what did they tell us? ‘You’re violating human rights.’ Whose human rights? The rights of the honest people? No. Perhaps we have prioritized the rights of the honest people over the criminals’ rights. That is all we have done.”

Amber Shearer and Dongayla Dobson, both on their first vacation without their children, reported a distressing ordeal occurring in broad daylight on a Grand Bahama beach. The pair was visiting the beach after disembarking a Carnival cruise ship that had docked in the island nation.

Their leisure time turned into a nightmare when they accepted a two-for-one drink offer from a resort staffer, as reported by NewsNation’s “Cuomo.” While enjoying their beverages, one served in a pineapple and the other in a coconut, the friends began to feel unexpectedly intoxicated.

As they searched the beach for seashells to bring back for their children, another male resort employee offered guidance to an ideal spot for such finds. However, the situation escalated, and Shearer later regained consciousness amidst a sexual assault by a uniformed staff member.
