The Vote | Full Measure

Right now, there’s an effort under way to transform the way Americans conduct elections. And as we move forward deep into the 2024 campaign, you’re going to be hearing a lot more about it, maybe even voting on it in November.

It has to do with something called ranked choice voting, a confusing alternative to the system most of us are familiar with, where the candidate with the most votes wins.

There is bipartisan support for the change — and bipartisan opposition. Today, we set out to find who’s pushing ranked choice voting and who would benefit the most.

North Korea | Full Measure

While much of our attention has been focused on Ukraine and the Mideast, experts say we should be taking a closer look at North Korea.

The communist nation has been flexing its muscles with provocative drills, while accusing the U.S. and South Korea of doing the same. Scott Thuman reports on the North Korea threat.

Gunmen kidnap more than 100 in latest Nigeria attacks

They blamed gangs of criminals known locally as bandits for the abductions in the Kajuru area of Kaduna state over the weekend, which pile pressure on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu after a spate of large-scale abductions.

Bandits routinely target communities, loot villages and carry out mass kidnappings for ransom in northwest and north-central Nigeria, where the violence has displaced around a million people, according to the UN.

On Sunday night, gunmen kidnapped 87 people in Kajuru Station, according to local government chairman Ibrahim Gajere.

Federal Reserve Declares CBDC a “Key Duty” to Congress, Despite Public Statements Attempting To Downplay Its Focus

Just as it is reassuring the public that it is not focusing on introducing a central bank digital currency (CBDC) in the country, the Fed has only recently been telling Congress that steps leading to a digital dollar are among its “7 key duties.”

This is according to Congressman Tom Emmer, who posted a document on X on March 14, explaining that his office received it as the Fed representatives were in Congress for a presentation.

“People don’t need to worry about it,” Powell also said.

But people do, and that was true even before this latest development commented on by Emmer. The ability of the state to impose financial surveillance over the population – in the vein of what is already happening in China in earnest – is the main reason for this.

The most vocal opponents in Congress are Republicans, while former President Donald Trump, who is likely to run for office again later this year, has vowed to stop a US CBDC, describing it as “a dangerous threat to freedom.”

New Hampshire Charges First Person in State With Murder in Death of Fetus

Christine Falzone and William Kelly are pictured on Falzone’s Facebook page.

A New Hampshire man appeared in court Monday on charges that he killed a pregnant woman and her unborn child by means of multiple blunt force injuries, the first time the state has charged someone with murder in the death of a fetus.

Mr. Kelly, who was being held without bail, has several criminal convictions. The most recent was for assault in 2019, police said.

Mr. Kelly initially was arrested in December on a single second-degree murder charge connected to Falzone’s death.

Why Prop. 1 foes are getting back in the fight

Photo by Fred Greaves for CalMatters

“Governor Newsom needs you…. The votes are being counted and it is CLOSE. Like, just a couple thousand votes close,” the appeal said.

Prop. 1 opponents called that strategy “sleazy” and “an attempt to manipulate the final vote count by harvesting the votes of only some partisans in certain areas.”

But the foes said they’re launching a similar effort and refocusing their website to help voters confirm their ballots were counted and to assist voters whose ballots were rejected.

So if Prop. 1 fails that narrowly, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Newsom uses this provision. Such a recount request would have to come within 36 days of the primary, or mid-April.

Farmers, tractors block traffic in Madrid to protest competition, bureaucracy

Spanish farmers block traffic on one of the main arteries of the Spanish capital Madrid, protesting at “unfair competition” from products imported from countries “that do not respect European standards.”

Like their European counterparts, Spanish farmers are also protesting against the cumbersome bureaucracy and complex standards imposed by Brussels, and complaining about the low prices at which they have to sell their produce.

Farmers in Poland, which has a particularly big agricultural base, have been protesting farm imports from war-torn Ukraine, which they say undercut prices for their produce.

Demonstrations by farmers have also taken place in recent weeks in other countries, including Belgium, France, Spain and Italy over a litany of burdens they say are depressing revenue.

Report: Migrant Parole for Sale for $5K in Nicaragua

(AP Photo/Fernando Llano, File)

For $1,000 upfront, smugglers put would-be parolees in touch with Americans who are willing to claim they are a financial sponsor on federal forms. Migrants pay the remaining $4,000 balance and head for the U.S. after the Department of Homeland Security approves the sponsor.

“Parole is being sold on the open market,” one source who saw the operation in action in Nicaragua told the Times.

The pay-for-parole in Nicaragua undoubtedly is happening in other countries, according to former U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) Director Emilio Gonzalez.

“If there’s a way to monetize this, people will figure it out,” he said. “This just stinks all over.”

Migrants coming from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua, and Venezuela receive preferential treatment under Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas’ CHNV program.

Russian forces have struck a location where Ukrainian security and defense commanders were holding a meeting, the Defense Ministry claimed on Monday.

The attack was mentioned in passing in the ministry’s daily briefing to the press. It said military commanders and their counterparts from the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) were present. The meeting was mentioned among targets chosen for Russian warplanes, missile strikes and artillery in the past 24 hours.

SBU agents play a crucial part in launching drone attacks against Russia, according to Ukrainian media and some official statements made by agency officials.

A drone attack on an oil refinery in Krasnodar Region on Sunday morning was attributed to its operatives, as a recent example. The raid caused a fire and reportedly caused one of the employees to die from a heart attack.

North Korea tests missiles as Blinken visits Seoul

The launches are the country’s first known missile tests in roughly a month and come days after the end of annual U.S.-South Korean military drills in the region that North Korea has described as proactive.

South Korean officials said in a statement that the country’s military detected “several aircraft presumed to be short-range ballistic missiles.” They were launched from the Pyongyang area and traveled nearly 200 miles before landing in the East Sea, according to a translation of the statement, which also stated that launches were detected from about 7:44 a.m. to 8:22 a.m. local time.

Japan’s Defense Ministry similarly said North Korea fired three missiles, two at 7:44 a.m. and one about 37 minutes later, The Associated Press reported.

A report from the Daily Wire notes the issue involving Gideons International is happening at the Phoebe Putney Health System.

That corporation provides health services to “hundreds of thousands of people in over 40 Georgia counties,” the report explains.

The questions being raised is why “inclusion” practices “would be used to exclude Christians from sharing Bibles with those who are sick or on their deathbed,” the Daily Wire said.

The Gideons, a group that dates back to 1899, has handed out more than two billion Bibles in more than 95 languages in 200 countries and territories, the report said.

United Airlines CEO addresses string of incidents, tells passengers carrier is safe

Kirby said United is currently in the process of reviewing the details of each incident to better understand what happened. The airline is using those insights to “inform our safety training and procedures across all employee groups,” he continued.

The company already planned to give pilots an extra day of in-person training starting in May, according to Kirby. United has also already created a centralized training curriculum for new-hire maintenance technicians.

The chief executive said he is empowering the company’s team to “speak up” if they see something wrong. Still, he said that passengers can still “be confident that every time a United plane pulls away from the gate, everyone on our team is working together to keep you safe on your trip.”

Tyson Foods Comes Under Fire for Replacing American Workers With Illegal Immigrants

(AP Photo/April L. Brown, File)

It comes as the company announced the closure of one of its packing facilities in Perry, Iowa, which is resulting in nearly 1,300 lay-offs.

The announcement by the company, which is a major player in the global meat industry, has further exacerbated the ongoing controversy. Last year, Tyson Foods closed two of its chicken plants, causing a series of layoffs.

The company has hinted at more upcoming closures by mid-fiscal 2024, which will likely create costs in the region of $300–400 million.

However, Tyson Foods plans to employ thousands of refugees in collaboration with Tent Partnership for Refugees, according to an announcement made shortly after announcing the layoffs, Bloomberg reported.

Meanwhile, Tyson Foods is also making significant investments in its migrant workforce. Around $1.5 million were set aside in 2023 and 2024 to facilitate legal aid for migrants. This includes paid holidays for workers to attend court hearings and applications for citizenship. The company paid for more than 1,300 of its migrant workforce to become U.S. citizens last year.

Paris Police Chief Laurent Nuñez announced on Monday morning that nine people have been arrested in connection to the riot, Le Figaro reports. Nuñez added that two police officers were injured by projectiles during the incident, however, they did not require hospital attention.

According to reports, Wanys R was well known to police and had recently been released from prison.

REPORT: Self-Proclaimed Hezbollah Terrorist Arrested at Border in Texas

Getty Images and U.S. Border Patrol

Border Patrol agents arrested 22-year-old Basel Bassel Ebbadi, a Lebanese national, after he illegally entered the United States from Mexico near El Paso. “I’m going to try to make a bomb,” Ebbadi told Border Patrol agents when asked why he came to the U.S., according to an exclusive report by the New York Post.

Agents captured Ebbadi on March 9 after he crossed the border from Mexico into Texas. The agents transported the Lebanese man to the El Paso hardened facility for processing and investigation.

Two days later, Ebbadi told the agents he was going to make a bomb. The agents moved the man to isolation and contacted the Tactical Terrorism Response Team to conduct an interview.

During the first four months of Fiscal Year 24, which began on October 1, 2023, nearly 60 migrants illegally entering the United States have been identified as being on the terror watch list. Approximately 270 more were apprehended in the prior two fiscal years — shattering prior records.

More than 10,000 migrants were apprehended in the Tucson Sector during the past week, according to an unofficial Border Patrol report posted on social media by Chief Patrol Agent John Modlin.

In a video published by Fox News a large group of migrants are seen entering through a breach in the wall.

Guilty!—But Not Really Guilty?

Fourth, all these people are an incestuous lot. Holder does not prosecute Clapper or Brennan, but himself was not prosecuted for resisting a congressional subpoena. Comey lets Hillary off, but he himself is let off after leaking a likely classified document. A Biden-administration-appointed special prosecutor exempts Biden, but another Biden prosecutor indicts Trump. After receiving their exemptions, the pots Brennan, Clapper, Comey, and McCabe all turn up on cable news blasting the kettle Trump.

What is the common explanation for all this madness?

Our criminal justice system no longer treats the accused equally under the law. If the defendant is deemed a conservative, like a Michael Flynn, Peter Navarro, or Donald Trump, then the full force of prosecution falls upon them.

But if a Biden, Brennan, Clapper, Clinton, Holder, or Willis, then the state contorts itself to find excuses, exemptions, and mitigating circumstances not to pursue justice—and so often to the point of absurdity and the erosion of Americans’ confidence in their laws.

In these high-profile cases in this polarized era, a cynical public now expects any accused prominent leftist to remain unindicted, while any non-leftwing target will be indicted, convicted, and jailed—for the same alleged offenses.

41 Times Google Has Interfered in US Elections Since 2008

MRC founder and President Brent Bozell highlighted just how dangerous Google’s election interference is. “Google’s massive and deliberate efforts to interfere in U.S. elections for the past 16 years is unacceptable and the biggest threat to American democracy today,” said Bozell.

Over the years, Google has repeatedly used its power to help push the most liberal candidates to electoral victory while targeting their opponents. In 2008, the company used a light touch helping then-Senator Barack Hussein Obama (D-IL), its favored primary candidate, and undermining his opponent, then-Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY).

But after Democrats took a devastating loss in the 2016 election, evidence collected by MRC shows that election interference became part of its mission. As one Google executive let slip in a secretly recorded interview, the company was working to actively “prevent[] the next Trump situation.”
