New Mexico Prosecutors: Migrants Gang Raped Deaf Woman in ‘Multi-Hour Nightmare’

Three migrant men from Guatemala have pleaded guilty or been convicted of gang raping a deaf woman after kidnapping her in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in June 2021. Another migrant, accused of being the ring leader, has since reportedly fled to Guatemala.
Oscar Rene Juarez Lopez, a 45-year-old Guatemalan national, pleaded guilty to rape and kidnapping and was sentenced to 20 years in prison this week, the Santa Fe New Mexican reports.
According to Deputy District Attorney Haley Murphy, Lopez, along with 26-year-old Owin Erlandi Lemus Cardona, 34-year-old Edward Climaco Velis, and 21-year-old Josue Donaldo Leon Cartagena — all migrants from Guatemala — forced the woman into a vehicle in the early morning hours of June 13, 2021.
The woman, according to Murphy, was then gang raped by the four men in a “multi-hour nightmare” where she was treated “like meat amongst a pack of wolves.” Some of the rape was filmed, according to prosecutors.
After gang raping her, the men dropped her off at her residence. The woman rushed to report the incident to police and take a sexual assault exam at a nearby hospital.
Newsom Says Climate Change Partly to Blame for California Budget Deficit

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has turned to climate change to explain how the state went from a $100 billion surplus two years ago to a $28 billion deficit, which would have been even higher prior to drastic actions last month.
Newsom will be traveling to Rome next week to deliver a speech at the Vatican on climate change. International jet travel is considered a significant contributor to carbon emissions, but Newsom is traveling abroad regardless.
Scientists have not established a link between climate change and the storms the state experienced last winter.
Notably, Newsom was out of the country during the worst of the snowstorms, enjoying a vacation in Mexico.

Liberal billionaire George Soros has spent $80 million to ‘silence’ Americans, Media Research Center says

Free Press, a media group financed by liberal billionaire George Soros, “is looking to incorporate global pressure to push Big Tech platforms to juice their censorship operations before the 2024 U.S. presidential election,” according to the Media Research Center.
“One of the wealthiest men in the world is using his vast wealth and power to silence regular Americans ahead of the 2024 election. At a time when defending free speech is key, leftists are trying their best to shut down the voices of half of America, especially those who disagree with the radical agenda promoted by Biden, Soros and most Big Tech executives,” MRC Free Speech America vice president Dan Schneider told Fox News Digital.
MRC associate editor Joseph Vazquez reported the Soros-funded media group “is at the helm of a new push to restrict free speech online,” pointing to a recent press release as evidence.
The letter was signed by “200 civil-society organizations, researchers and journalists,” according to Free Press. The MRC found that “at least 45 of the signatories have had their coffers packed with Soros cash to the tune of a whopping $80,757,329 between 2016 and 2022 alone.”
“The document attempted to justify that it was written with reducing ‘real-world harms’ and ‘the rise of extremism and violent attempts to overthrow democratic governments’ in mind. However, it appears its true design is to pressure Big Tech companies to silence speech the left despises as 60 countries across the globe gear up for their elections in 2024,” Vazquez wrote.
New data reveals Illegal immigrants eluding Border Patrol spiked under Biden, surpassing predecessors

The numbers of Border Patrol nationwide gotaways — illegal immigrants who avoided agents but were detected by other forms of surveillance such as cameras and sensors — were obtained by a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request filed by Fox in October.
They show that between FY 2010 and FY 2020 inclusive, there were over 1.4 million gotaways, ranging from a low of 86,226 in FY 2011 to a high of 171,663 in FY 2013.
This means that there were more gotaways in FY21-23 (1.6 million) than the decade of FY 2010 and FY 2020 (1.4 million).
So far in FY 24, which began in October, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) sources have told Fox News separately there have been more than 175,000 gotaways.
Officials have regularly expressed concern about the numbers crossing without being encountered, even though it is a relatively small number compared to the more than 1.3 million migrants encountered this fiscal year.
“That number is a large number, but what’s keeping me up at night is the 140,000 known gotaways,” Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens told CBS News in March, when numbers were lower.
‘Child predator’: Illegal immigrant with past sex conviction captured in border state

An illegal immigrant who was nabbed in Arizona by Border Patrol last week is a “child predator” with a conviction for child sex abuse, officials announced.
Border Patrol Chief Jason Owens announced Border Patrol agents in Douglas, Arizona, arrested a Mexican national and “child predator” with a previous conviction for felony aggravated criminal sex abuse with a victim under 13 years old.
Border Patrol agents have encountered nearly 8,800 illegal immigrants with criminal convictions so far this fiscal year, which began in October. That compares to 15,267 last fiscal year and more than 12,000 in fiscal 2022.
The illegal immigrant is one of a number of sex offenders who attempted to enter the U.S. via the southern border, where agents are frequently overwhelmed by the numbers they are encountering.
Agents in the Tucson Sector of Arizona encountered a Mexican citizen recently who was convicted in Nevada in 2009 following charges of sexual assault and lewdness with a minor.
Massive violent protests erupt in ex-Soviet republic as nation passes pro-Moscow law

The government of Georgia wants to put the country back in time to its old Soviet Union days, as it signed a controversial new “foreign agents” law that many believe will end Georgia’s young democracy.
Tens of thousands of angry protesters took to the streets of Tbilisi and other cities across Georgia to voice opposition to the new law and were met with a heavy response from Georgian riot police. Estimates vary, but nearly 200,000 people were out in the street on Saturday, a staggering show of force in a country of only 3.7 million people.
The capitol has been on edge as angry protesters remain outside the parliament building banging against barricades and smashing barriers that surround the Parliament. Violent clashes between police and protesters continue.

GM’s Cruise is paying someone $8 million for hitting them with a robotaxi

Back in October, a robotaxi operated by the Cruise autonomous vehicle subsidiary of General Motors hit a woman in San Francisco as she crossed the street.
Now, Fortune reports that the company reached a settlement with that woman for somewhere between $8 million and $12 million.
During the incident last year, the Cruise vehicle dragged the woman more than 20 feet and pinned her under itself while she waited for emergency services to come to her rescue. After the incident, Cruise’s CEO resigned and the company stopped all testing throughout the United States.
When the California Public Utilities Commission investigated the matter, a lawyer hired by General Motors found that the company failed to turn over the entire video of the incident because of a bad internet connection.
A judge expressed disappointment with the company, saying that it had “misled the Commission regarding the extent and severity of the October 2, 2023 incident, as well as the ability of Cruise’s AV’s to operate safely after experiencing a collision.”
Waymo, Zoox self-driving cars under federal investigation following reported traffic violations, collisions

The NHTSA, which falls under the U.S. Department of Transportation, says its Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) “has received reports of 22 incidents involving Waymo vehicles equipped with Waymo’s 5th generation automated driving system (ADS).”
The reports include 17 crashes with things like gates, chains and parked cars, as well as “instances in which the ADS appeared to disobey traffic safety control devices.” In some instances, vehicles were reported to have been “driving in opposing lanes with nearby oncoming traffic or entering construction zones,” according to ODI.
“The investigation will evaluate the ADS’s performance in detecting and responding to traffic control devices and in avoiding collisions with stationary and semi-stationary objects and vehicles,” an ODI document said regarding its probe.
