Man with 99 arrests stabs person at Indianapolis gas station

An Indiana man has ignited outrage after it’s revealed he has a staggering criminal history of nearly 100 arrests and limited consequences.

Courtney Booth, 41, stands accused of stabbing a 69-year-old man at a gas station, according to law enforcement and local media.

Records indicate that Booth has faced 99 arrests over the years, with charges varying from theft to assault. Surprisingly, he has never spent time in state prison.

Booth’s long record shows him repeatedly cycling through the Marion County justice system. His convictions mostly consist of low-level felonies, misdemeanors, and include offenses like theft and trespassing. Even when found guilty, the penalties he faced often resulted in short stays or time served in county jail.

In one instance from 2019, he was convicted of assault causing bodily harm, but this was later dismissed through a plea deal, resulting in a mere two-month prison term. Additionally, he accepted guilty pleas for felony trespassing in 2020 and 2022, yet again receiving sentences that reflected time he had already served.

Rick Snyder, the president of the Indianapolis Fraternal Order of Police, criticized the situation, stating it illustrates that repeat offenders like Booth are being released faster than they can be arrested. He expressed frustration during a local radio show, questioning the rationale behind allowing someone with such a track record back into the community so quickly.

Recently, Booth’s latest charge was downgraded from attempted murder to aggravated assault, which reduced his possible prison sentence from 40 years to a maximum of 16 years. He is currently detained in the Marion County Jail with a bail set at $50,000.

This case underlines a broader concern over a “catch-and-release” justice system where habitual offenders don’t face significant consequences. Critics have drawn parallels to other high-profile cases, such as that of Troy McAllister in San Francisco, who faced serious backlash for his criminal history after allegedly causing a deadly crash while trying to exchange prison time for a rehabilitation program….

Texas DPS catch criminal ‘most wanted’ foreign nationals, more wanted

Texas Department of Public Safety officers continue to apprehend criminal foreign nationals and convicted felons on Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Criminal Illegal Immigrants List.

A Honduran national and fugitive, Robert Bustrillo-Vasquiez was wanted for aggravated kidnapping bodily injury/sexual abuse, aggravated sexual assault and human smuggling. He had previously been deported multiple times since 2010.

Bustrillo-Vasquiez was taken into custody at a job site in San Antonio as a result of an investigation led by DPS Criminal Investigations Division Special Agents and Texas Highway Patrol. He had been wanted out of Bexar County since August 11 on multiple felony charges and was captured on Sept. 26.

He has a 15-year history of illegally entering the country, being deported and illegally reentering as a gotaway – those who illegally enter the country to evade capture and don’t make immigration claims. More than two million gotaways were reported under the Biden administration, The Center Square exclusively reported.

After a deportation in February 2018 and another illegal reentry, Bustrillo-Vasquiez served time in federal prison for “felony reentry of a deported alien.” His criminal history also includes arrests in Austin in 2013 and 2014 multiple times for assault, DPS said.

Other most wanted lists include Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives and Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders.

As soon as one fugitive comes off a most wanted list, another is added, indicating there is no shortage of fugitives wanted by law enforcement.

Texas DPS has added Elijah Turner Reyes, a confirmed (Piru) Bloods gang member, to its Texas’ 10 Most Wanted Fugitives List.

Reyes, 24, from El Paso, has been wanted by the El Paso Police Department since May 22 for murder. In June, additional warrants were issued out of El Paso County for his arrest after he failed to appear for a court hearing related to charges of burglary of habitation, possession of a controlled substance and assaulting a pregnant woman.

In 2019, Reyes was convicted of aggravated robbery and sentenced to five years in prison. He was discharged in January 2024; roughly 17 months later he was wanted for murder.

DPS has published photos and descriptions seeking the public’s help to locate him. A cash reward of up to $7,500 is being offered for information leading to his arrest through Texas Crime Stoppers. All tips are guaranteed to be anonymous…..

Left: Ahmed Anshur/University of Minnesota; Right: Qalinle Ibrahim Dirie/Department of Corrections

The University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs has selected their list of 2025-2026 policy fellows. Among them is the executive director of a mosque who wrote a “community support letter” for a man convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl.

In May, Qalinle Ibrahim Dirie was found guilty of first-degree criminal sexual conduct after being charged with raping a 12-year-old girl. The 42-year-old Somali immigrant was later sentenced to 12 years in prison.

Prior to sentencing, several letters were submitted to the court on Dirie’s behalf. One of the letters was from Ahmed Anshur, the executive director of the Al-Ihsan Islamic Center in St. Paul. The letter was titled “Community Support Letter for Qalinle Dirie” and dated July 11.

The letter expressed “strong and heartfelt support” for Dirie, spoke highly of his character, and said he was an “active volunteer” at the mosque. The letter said “the situation” Dirie is facing “comes as a deep shock to all of us” and “it does not reflect the man we know.”

Signed only by Anshur, the letter said “We respectfully ask that this letter be considered as a sincere reflection of who Qalinle Dirie truly is. His contributions may not make headlines, but to us, he has made a positive difference.”

Now, the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs has selected Anshur as one of the institution’s 2025-26 Policy Fellows….

Louisiana deputy sheriff shot to death with his own gun by suspect during interrogation

A sheriff’s deputy in Louisiana was killed and another critically injured after an arrestee opened fire inside a courthouse Monday night.

Charles Riley, a six-year veteran of the Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office, was fatally shot during a struggle with 27-year-old Latrell Clark, who attempted to grab Riley’s firearm while being interviewed.

Clark was being booked on a sexual assault charge and was in a courthouse interview room with Riley and Captain Brett Stassi Jr. when the altercation broke out. A struggle ensued, and several shots were fired. Clark was also killed in the shooting.

“We’re all just stunned and distraught; this just doesn’t happen here,” said Iberville Parish Deputy Ronnie Hebert to USA Today Network. “I’ve been here 31 years, and its the first time I’ve ever been part of an investigation where one of our deputies was shot or killed.”

Riley is survived by his wife and two children. Stassi Jr., the son of Sheriff Brett Stassi, remains in stable but critical condition.

Hebert did not provide details on how Clark gained control of the weapon and deferred further questions to the Louisiana State Police, who are leading the investigation. The FBI is also assisting in the investigation….

WATCH: Basic Campaign Questions Send California’s Katie Porter Into Tailspin: ‘I Don’t Want This All on Camera’

Democratic California gubernatorial hopeful Katie Porter threatened to leave an interview after being asked straightforward questions about President Donald Trump’s voters, saying she didn’t want “an unhappy experience.”

Footage circulated Tuesday showing CBS News correspondent Julie Watts asking Porter how the former congresswoman planned to win over Trump voters. The question sent Porter into a tailspin.

“How would I need them in order to win, ma’am?” Porter said, laughing.

“Unless you think you’re going to get 60 percent of the vote,” Watts pushed back. “Everybody who did not vote for Trump will vote for you—that’s what you’re saying?”

Porter argued she had enough star power to easily overcome her Democratic opponents and touted past victories that brought in Republican votes.

“But you just said you don’t need those Trump voters,” Watts said…

“I don’t want to have an unhappy experience with you,” Porter said. “And I don’t want this all on camera.”

Porter’s primary opponents quickly went on the attack. Former California state controller Betty Yee accused her of throwing a “temper tantrum,” and businessman Stephen Cloobeck questioned “how the heck can she handle California?” Former California State Assembly speaker Tony Villaraigosa said California needs a leader who can “answer simple questions.”

Porter has long faced accusations of abusive behavior. Her ex-husband, Matthew Hoffman, accused her of verbally and physically abusing him. At one point, Porter dumped a pot of boiling mashed potatoes on Hoffman’s head, saying, “Can’t you read the fucking directions,” he alleged in a lawsuit….

Man attacked with axe, knives, and baseball bat near Nantes mosque amid dispute over prayer places

A 52-year-old man was seriously injured after being attacked with an axe, knives, and a baseball bat near a mosque in France on Monday night, in what investigators believe was a dispute between worshippers over seating arrangements during prayers.

The assault took place around 9:10 p.m. about 600 meters from the Bellevue mosque in Nantes, according to the city’s public prosecutor, Antoine Leroy.

The victim was struck multiple times in the back of the head by two men armed with knives and a hatchet, while a third attacker hit him on the arm with a baseball bat.

The man, who suffered serious injuries, was taken to Nantes University Hospital. He has since been declared stable and was able to give his version of events to investigators, Leroy said.

One suspect has been taken into custody, while the others remain at large.

According to Le Parisien, witnesses to the attack are being interviewed by officers who have opened an investigation for “attempted intentional homicide with a bladed weapon.”

According to initial findings and statements made by the victim, the attack stemmed from a conflict “concerning the places occupied within the mosque during prayers by each of the protagonists, all being worshippers of the same mosque,” the prosecutor explained.

Myanmar military drops bombs from paragliders on protest killing 24

At least 24 protesters in Myanmar were killed and 47 injured after they were bombed from the air as they participated in a demonstration against the military government in a town in the country’s central Sagaing region.

Regime forces launched the attack on the gathering of about 100 people from motorized paragliders over the town of Chaung-U, 200 miles northwest of the capital, Naypyidaw, according to the exiled National Unity Government formed after Aung San Suu Kyi’s administration was ousted in a 2021 military coup.

The incident occurred Monday night as the Southeast Asian nation celebrated the full-moon phase of its lunar Lighting Festival, which, according to Buddhist belief, marks the descent to earth of the Buddha.

The quasi self-governing region was targeted because it is a center of resistance to the ruling military junta, with People’s Defence Force volunteer militias running the local administration.

An official in the local PDF told BBC Burmese it discovered an attack was imminent but was not able to clear the area in time. The official, who was himself injured but saw others killed, said the whole event lasted less than 10 minutes….

Watchdog Says Taliban Restricting Social Media In Afghanistan Days After Internet Blackout

A Taliban flag flutters near telecom equipment installed over a rooftop providing Internet services overlooking Hazrat-e-Ali Shrine, or Blue Mosque, in Mazar-i-Sharif.

Internet watchdog NetBlocks has confirmed reports from inside Afghanistan that several major social media sites have been “intentionally restricted.”

“Metrics show social media platforms Instagram, Facebook and Snapchat are now restricted on multiple providers in Afghanistan; the incident follows last week’s telecoms blackout and is the latest in a series of internet censorship measures imposed by the Taliban,” NetBlocks, a watchdog organization that monitors cybersecurity and internet governance, said in a statement on October 8.

The report confirms statements from social media users inside Afghanistan earlier in the day, who told Radio Azadi that they had been unable to access social media networks without using a filter breaker or VPN since the previous evening.

The Taliban-led government has not officially commented on the social media shutdown.

For nearly 48 hours last week, Afghanistan was plunged into confusion and chaos after authorities imposed a nationwide telecommunications blackout. The Taliban cut off access to fiber-optic Internet and cell phone service, which relies on the same system, without warning on September 29. It was restored on October 1.

The move triggered chaos, disrupting flights and cutting people off from banking and e-commerce systems as well as online jobs and schools.

The Taliban didn’t give an official reason for its decision, but the shutdown came weeks after the hard-line Islamist group blocked access to fiber-optic Internet in several provinces because of concerns over “immorality.”

Critics have said the decision is part of a wider crackdown on individual freedoms and the free flow of information….

Police: Arizona Drag Queen Charged for Having Sex with 13-Year-Old Boy

A 35-year-old drag queen in Phoenix, Arizona, is accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy after meeting on a dating app.

The suspect is identified as Michael Browder, whose drag name is Aubrey Ghalichi, ABC 15 reported Monday.

The outlet said Browder was arrested in September on two counts of sexual conduct with a minor.

The alleged victim told authorities he posed as an 18 year old online, then arranged for two men to meet him for sex at different times. The boy claimed he did not know the men but law enforcement found one online conversation from the boy’s laptop which helped them identify the suspect.

Browder has allegedly admitted to police that he met and had sex with the victim. However, he allegedly claimed it was so dark in the apartment he could not ascertain the victim’s age.

“Browder did allegedly tell police that he was under the impression the victim was 18 or 19 years old,” the ABC 15 article read….

Sheriff: Teen Shot Pregnant Girlfriend, Then Killed Brother Who Tried to Protect Her

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as 17-year-old Marcus Hinojosa who was inside the apartment when the incident happened, KSTP reported Monday.

When his girlfriend, 17-year-old Makayla Sadowski, arrived that afternoon, Hinojosa shot her as she entered the home.

The young woman’s brother, identified as 20-year-old Tyler Sadowski, was also at the scene with a neighbor and when they went to check on her, Hinojosa fatally shot the Tyler at the entry door.

“Upon approaching the apartment, the Barron County Sheriff’s Deputy heard a single gunshot come from the apartment. The Barron Police Department along with The Barron County Sheriff’s Department cleared and secured the apartment. First aid was provided to all injured individuals,” the sheriff’s department said in a social media post on Monday, adding that Hinojosa died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Makayla’s baby was born as a result of her injuries but is in good condition at a local hospital. The young mother was listed as being in stable condition.

“The sheriff’s office said there was a ‘disturbing’ Snapchat involving the shooting, and they are still working with Snapchat to get it removed,” the KSTP article read….
