Day care workers filmed attacking 7 preschoolers including hitting one ‘in the face with a notebook’: Police

Two day care workers in Illinois were arrested after they were allegedly recorded abusing several children in their care, using a notebook and other objects to strike the children, smacking them in the face, and dragging them around on the floor.

Jessica Murillo, 36, and Izabella Thompson, 23, were taken into custody this week and charged with a spate of crimes in connection with the allegations.

Murillo is charged with three felony counts of aggravated battery and 12 misdemeanor counts of battery — making physical contact of an insulting or provoking nature. Thompson is facing four misdemeanor counts of the same battery charge.

The defendants worked at A Mother’s Touch Learning Academy in the 1600 block of Rand Road in Des Plaines, which is about 15 miles northwest of Chicago. The instances of abuse allegedly took place from early to mid-November, according to a news release from the Des Plaines Police Department.

The investigation began when a parent of one of the children contacted the directors of the day care regarding “an incident in which a child care provider allegedly sprayed a child in the face with water.” The directors launched an internal investigation, which included immediately reviewing surveillance footage and contacting the state Department of Child and Family Services. Both Murillo and Thompson were also suspended from the business.

“Day care directors continued their investigation and discovered additional video evidence of Murillo and Thompson battering multiple children between November 3 and November 19, 2025,” police wrote in the release. “On November 24, 2025, the directors, accompanied by one of the child’s parents, went to the Des Plaines Police Department and filed a formal report.”

The department investigated and learned that Murillo and Thompson had allegedly battered a total of seven boys between the ages of 4 and 5. Police said that while the “nature of the contact varied,” none of the children suffered severe physical injuries or required medical attention….

Private Credit Fears Deepen With UBS Warning of 15% Defaults

A few weeks ago, analysts at UBS Group AG laid out a worst-case scenario for defaults in the private credit sector. Their outlook just became more grim.

Strategists including Matthew Mish say private credit could see default rates surge as high as 15%, two percentage points more than the firm forecast less than a month ago, if artificial intelligence triggers an “aggressive” disruption among corporate borrowers.

“What is new: a clearer catalyst — rapid, severe AI disruption,” according to the UBS strategists Tuesday.

Direct lenders that took a lead role in financing software companies in recent years now look dangerously exposed to AI’s impact, stirring comparisons to the 2008 financial crisis. Some estimates suggest that the firms have 40% of all sponsor-backed loans tied up in the software industry.

Warnings about the $1.8 trillion industry have been building in recent days, triggered by Blue Owl Capital Inc.’s decision to permanently shut the gates on one of its funds and to sell assets. The move sparked a $2.4 billion drop in its market value, and dragged down the shares of other private credit players including Ares Management Corp., Blackstone Inc. and Apollo Global Management Inc.

The UBS report published Tuesday noted that private credit defaults are currently between 3% and 5% and that signs of strain such as interest paid-in-kind (PIK) are nearing post-pandemic highs….

German woman pretended to be dead so her ‘dark-skinned’ rapist would let her go, police search for suspect

German commuter train on a sunny autumn day in Nuremberg

A German woman pretended to play dead so her “dark-skinned” rapist would leave her alone and flee the scene at a train station in Pfaffenhofen an der Ilm in Bavaria on Tuesday evening. The rapist remains on the run.

The 42-year-old woman was stalked, beaten, and raped. During the rape, she decided to play dead, and it was only then that the rapist decided to end the attack and flee the scene. Her decision to “play dead” may have saved her life.

The woman was reportedly already harassed and groped on the train ride. Once she got off at the station, he followed her and raped her near a bicycle parking spot, according to Bild newspaper.

After the rape, the woman stopped a passing car, and the driver of the car immediately phoned the police.

The Ingolstadt Criminal Investigation Department said the man is dark-skinned and was wearing a hoodie with a dark print at the chest level.

Police have also released a description of the man. He is described as a dark-skinned male with a white hoodie with a dark print on the chest. He was also wearing black sweatpants, white sneakers, and a gray and orange baseball cap.

A description of the female victim was also provided. She had red, very curly hair. She was wearing an orange top during the attack, along with a dark leather jacket with inner fur. She also had on black jeans and ankle boots.

Due to the fact that the incident occurred on a train, it is remarkable that police have not released any video footage or camera stills of the perpetrator. However, even in cases where a wanted rapist was on the run, German courts have hesitated for months before releasing an image of a suspect…..

Apple expands US manufacturing with Texas push

Apple will begin producing Mac minis in Houston later this year for the first time, expanding its U.S. manufacturing footprint and creating what the company said will be “thousands of jobs.”

The expansion will effectively double the size of Apple’s Houston campus and increase production of advanced artificial intelligence servers used in the company’s U.S. data centers.

Apple said Tuesday it will also open a 20,000-square-foot Advanced Manufacturing Center in Houston focused on hands-on workforce training. CEO Tim Cook said the expansion reflects the company’s previously announced commitment to increase U.S. manufacturing, adding that AI server shipments from Houston are ahead of schedule.

The Mac mini will be assembled at a new factory on the Houston campus. The company said servers built there – including logic boards manufactured onsite – are being deployed across its U.S. data center network.

The expansion comes as technology companies increase domestic AI infrastructure capacity and reassess overseas supply chain exposure. Apple did not disclose financial details specific to the Houston project, but it previously pledged to invest $600 billion in the U.S. and says it has surpassed some related targets…
