President Biden plans Lake Tahoe vacation but no plans to visit Hawaii

President Biden has been silent on the issue.
He didn’t answer questions from reporters when he arrived back at the White House on Monday afternoon after spending the weekend at his beach home in Rehoboth, Delaware. While on that trip he was criticized by Republican for not commenting on the wildfires that have killed 96 people.
The president was on his way to the beach with friends when asked about the rising death toll in Hawaii.
‘No comment,’ he replied.
Earlier, when out biking with wife Jill, he was asked if he visit the state.
‘We’re looking at it,’ he said.
Popular weight-loss drugs like Wegovy may raise risk of complications under anesthes

Patients who take blockbuster drugs like Wegovy or Ozempic for weight loss may face life-threatening complications if they need surgery or other procedures that require empty stomachs for anesthesia. This summer’s guidance to halt the medication for up to a week may not go far enough, either.
Some anesthesiologists in the U.S. and Canada say they’ve seen growing numbers of patients on the weight-loss drugs who inhaled food and liquid into their lungs while sedated because their stomachs were still full—even after following standard instructions to stop eating for six to eight hours in advance.
The drugs can slow digestion so much that it puts patients at increased risk for the problem, called pulmonary aspiration, which can cause dangerous lung damage, infections and even death, said Dr. Ion Hobai, an anesthesiologist at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
Americans Tapping into 401Ks amid Private Debt Crisis

Credit card balances in the US have surpassed $1 trillion for the first time, with balances up almost 20% from a year ago.
The Federal Reserve Bank of New York reported that total credit card debt stood at $986 billion in the first quarter of 2023, unchanged from the record hit at the end of 2022.
The average credit card interest rate offered in the US over the last three months of 2022 stood at 21.6%, according to WalletHub, a jump from about 18% a year prior.
Americans are now tapping into their retirement funds to make ends meet.
Food and gas prices continue to rise, putting strain on Americans’ budgets

Gas prices have risen significantly in recent weeks, according to pricing data from AAA. Gas prices hit a record high earlier in the Biden administration, surpassing an average of $5 per gallon nationally, before dropping back down.
Now they are rising again, currently at $3.85 per gallon of regular gas, up from $3.82 a week ago and $3.57 a month ago. In the last month, diesel prices have risen from $3.86 per gallon to $4.13 per gallon.
Food prices have risen as well. The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics last week released its Consumer Price Index and Producer Price Index, two key markers of inflation that showed prices rose less than half a percentage point last month.
The CPI rose 3.2% in the last 12 months, and the PPI rose 0.8% over the same period, higher than expected.
Canoga Park Nordstrom raided by ‘flash mob’ of 30-plus people

Video taken from inside the store showed the group, in mostly black, running through the store, knocking over displays and grabbing whatever they could before running out of the store.
Police estimate the stolen goods are worth between $60,000 and $100,000.
The mall was not evacuated, police said. One man who was sprayed with bear spray was treated by paramedics.
Chicago group wants gangbangers to refrain from firing guns between 9 a.m. and 9 p.m.

The proposal from Rogers Park-based Native Sons, known as “The People’s Ordinance,” was recently promoted in an email newsletter by Ald. Maria Hadden (49th).
Shootings are up significantly this year in Rogers Park. Chicago police believe a reignited gang war between local Gangster Disciples and Black P Stones in Uptown is to blame.
“We have to start somewhere,” Tatiana Atkins, co-founder of Native Sons, said. “Our goal is to approach our city’s gun violence problem strategically and not all at once. Things didn’t become this way overnight, and change won’t happen overnight.
Former FBI Agent Confirms Biden Team Was Tipped Off About Plan to Interview Hunter

The former FBI agent, who worked for the bureau for 20 years and retired in June 2022, corroborated IRS Supervisory Special Agent Gary Shapley’s testimony that the Secret Service and the Biden transition team were tipped off about a planned interview of Hunter Biden during United States Attorney for Delaware David Weiss’ investigation.
The former FBI agent first corroborated Shapley’s testimony in July. The House Oversight Committee released the transcript of the FBI agent’s testimony Monday:

Taliban’s resurgence: A return to power after two decades

After seizing control of Afghanistan, the Taliban governed about 75% of the country as the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan” from 1996 to 2001.
This era saw widespread international disapproval, with only Pakistan, the United Arab Emirates, and Saudi Arabia acknowledging the Taliban’s authority. However, this brief rule sparked significant discontent domestically.
Women and girls were entirely marginalized from public life. The disdain for culture and art reached its zenith, partially destroying museums and historical sites.
Notably, the ancient Bamiyan idols, which had stood for 1500 years, were
demolished during this period.
After two decades of conflict with the Afghan government, the Taliban resurfaced, reestablishing their government as the “Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.”
This led to massive displacement and the return of restrictions on girls’ education. International reluctance to engage with the Taliban’s rule persisted, mirrored by media oppression, and economic recession further disrupted the lives of countless Afghan families.
UN troops exit base in Mali early over safety concerns

In June, the UN Security Council agreed to complete the withdrawal of the peacekeeping forces in Mali at the end of the year, following the transitional government’s demand for the mission to end without delay.
The removal of the MINUSMA mission, which was established in 2013 to help combat jihadist insurgencies in the Sahel nation, has heightened tensions between the military rulers and the CMA. The UN reported that more than 11,000 soldiers and 1,600 police officers had been deployed as of February of this year.
Late on Sunday, the Malian Armed Forces (FaMa) reported that seven soldiers were killed and at least eight injured in clashes with the former rebel group, Coordination of Azawad Movements (CMA), between Friday and Sunday.
Three Killed In Blast At Hotel In Eastern Afghanistan

At least three people were killed and seven others were wounded in an explosion at a hotel in Afghanistan eastern province of Khost, which borders Pakistan’s former militant stronghold of North Waziristan, police said on August 14.
A statement issued by the office of the Taliban governor in Khost said that the blast occurred mid-morning on August 14, without giving details about the nature of the blast and who was behind it.
Eye-witnesses told RFE/RL that members of the Pakistani Taliban were staying at the hotel.
Airstrike in Ethiopia’s Amhara kill 26, ‘gravely’ injures more than 50 people

Talking to The Guardian, hospital officials said that 26 people have died. They also share a tally of people injured in the attack that, as per the report, emerges as one of the deadliest single episode since August — the eruption of violence in the region.
Residents of the area told the Guardian that the attack was targeted at members of the Fano ethnic militia, who were gathered in the town’s centre.
However, in the process, many bystanders were hurt. As of now, it is unclear how many of the victims are civilians.

Mine-clearing equipment and systems is also included, the Pentagon said.
Russia claims it scrambled MiG-29 to thwart Norway’s attempt of potential border breach

The statement clarified that no border violation occurred.
Moscow reportedly refrained from crossing established air routes or engaging in hazardous maneuvers.
“As the Russian fighter approached, the foreign military plane made a U-turn away from the borders of the Russian Federation,” the Russian defence ministry said.
English Channel Migrant Crisis to Last At Least Another Five Years, Admits Leaked Govt Document

The document appears, therefore, to suggest that despite Prime Minister Rishi Sunak’s pledge to end the people smuggler trade across the Channel, the government is expecting the practice to continue for the foreseeable future.
In June, Mr Sunak travelled to Dover — the coastal area where most illegals are brought ashore in Britain after typically being escorted by the French navy into UK waters — to deliver a speech hailing the success of his government’s policies in stemming the tide of boat migrants.
However, the prime minister was mocked for seemingly taking credit for the inclement weather, which had made crossings of the Channel difficult over the previous months. Indeed, just days following his speech, thousands of migrants began making the journey once again as the weather broke.

A British man is among five people who have been shot dead in violent protests in South Africa.
The 40-year-old, reportedly a doctor who was on holiday in the country with two members of his family, was killed in the Ntlangano Crescent area of Cape Town last Thursday, officials said.
It is believed he had taken a wrong turn from the nearby Cape Town International Airport while driving with two other people when a group approached the vehicle and shot him.

Blaze Lily Wallace, a 28-year-old law student, was jailed for life on Monday after following her fiancé Samuel Mayo down the street after a domestic dispute last summer at their home in south west London, and fatally wounding him.
Witnesses heard him repeatedly shout: “Please Blaze. I love you, please Blaze,” before he bled to death at the side of the road, begging motorists and passers-by to call an ambulance.
A jury of eight women and four men at Kingston-upon-Thames Crown Court unanimously convicted Wallace of murder and possessing an offensive weapon after 10-and-a-half hours of deliberation following a three-week trial.

‘North Of $50 Million’: GOP Rep Says Biden Payouts Even Higher Than Reported

Republican Rep. Nancy Mace of South Carolina said Monday that the money paid to the Biden family from foreign companies was much higher than reported, based on suspicious activity reports.
“We’re not allowed to share the suspicious activity reports, but I’ve seen suspicious activity reports that make me believe the amount of money that the Biden family was paid off is north of $50 million,”
Mace told “Cavuto Coast to Coast” guest host Cheryl Casone. “It’s not just Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, James Biden, his brother.
There are grandchildren that received money from communist China, for example.”
Fox Corporation Execs Are Dumping Money Into A Democrat’s Reelection Campaign

Several executives have reportedly collectively spent tens of thousands of dollars in support of Manchin. Manchin is one of the few Democratic senators to appear on the network and warn the nation about the federal deficit and spending proposals brought forth by President Joe Biden and Democrats.
John Aberneth, a Fox TV Stations CEO, reportedly donated $3,300 to the campaign. Stephen Brown, a Fox TV executive, donated $500, according to FEC records.
Elizabeth Casey, a Fox Corps attorney, reportedly gave $2,000, and another attorney named Joe Di Scipio reportedly donated $1,000. Viet D Dinh, a Fox Corps chief legal and policy officer, reportedly spent a total of $6,600.
‘Pushing It Down Our Throats’: Red State Locals Bristle At Incentives For Foreign Companies In Biden’s Signature Bill

Some red state residents around the country are fuming about the Inflation Reduction Act’s (IRA) tax incentives and subsidies that have boosted ventures linked to foreign companies, according to Politico.
The IRA included nearly $370 billion in taxpayer funds for green energy initiatives over the coming years, a figure which could actually end up being around $1.2 trillion, according to analysis by Goldman Sachs.
While President Joe Biden and high-ranking officials in his administration have promoted the IRA’s impacts in GOP-controlled districts after Republicans largely opposed the bill, many residents in those areas remain skeptical of the bill and the potential boost its subsidies may provide to foreign ventures, according to Politico.
Texas county’s 2022 primary election audit shows GOP, Dem poll workers given disparate help

Although the report, commissioned by Harris County to Fors Marsh Group (FMG) was submitted to the county in 2022, it was only just released to the public.
Last month, County Commissioner Tom Ramsey (R-Pct. 3) queried the missing report that was promised in January. “Every voter in Harris County knows that we are having problems with our elections, so it’s about time we figured this out, so we don’t have problems with our elections,” he said.
Predominantly Democratic-leaning Harris County, which includes the city of Houston, experienced significant election issues in both the 2020 and 2022 elections.
In 2020, statewide election issues forced the Secretary of State to conduct an audit that found Harris County had “very serious issues in the handling of electronic media.” One of the issues was that at least 14 mobile ballot boxes did not have proper chain of custody records for 184,999 ballots.
