Twisted store owner beat, sexually assaulted rivals who mocked his claim of being ‘King of New York’: feds

Chowdhury was hoping to “protect and promote” his standing in the community as the alleged street “king” with his attacks, which were seen as displays of dominance, prosecutors said, as reported by the Daily News. U.S. Attorney's Office, Eastern District of New York

A warped Queens supermarket owner brutally beat, kidnapped and sexually assaulted a series of rivals and enemies as twisted pay back for them mocking his claim that he was the “King of New York,” federal prosecutors said.

Abu Chowdhury, 36, was found guilty in Brooklyn Federal court Friday for his bizarre 2023 campaign of terror, in which he grabbed three of his doubters off the street and subjected them to tortures, such as violating them with poles, filming them naked and drugging them.

Chowdhury was hoping to “protect and promote” his standing in the community as the alleged street “king” with his attacks, which were seen as displays of dominance, prosecutors said, as reported by the Daily News.

“He wanted to protect and promote his [reputation], and to show his community he was, as he said, the ‘King of New York,’” Assistant US Attorney Joshua Tannen said, according to the outlet.

Feds said that Chowdhury’s spate of kidnappings began after an infantile TikTok fight with a 41-year-old man, who claimed an insecure Chowdhury “didn’t own the streets.”

The beef boiled over when Chowdhury and a group of accomplices grabbed the man as he was walking near 181st Street and Hillside Avenue on March 27, 2023, prosecutors said.

Federal prosecutors alleged that the group beat the 41-year-old and threatened his life during a hellish car ride.

The depravity peaked when the crew forced the man to stand naked in the middle of the street for a video.

The attack only ended after the sick crew gave the victim a sedative, leaving him to wake up bruised in a local hospital, according to prosecutors.

In May of the same year, feds said Chowdhury kidnapped and attacked two more people off the street who had supposedly insulted his then-girlfriend Iffat Lubna, 27, according to feds.

After grabbing the two men and bringing them to a hotel in Long Island City, Chowdhury sexually violated one with a rod, prosecutors said.

He then coerced the other man into beating the first one, under threat that Chowdhury would beat the second man if he didn’t participate, according to federal prosecutors.  Lubna allegedly participated in the attack.

Chowdhury was convicted of the three kidnappings on Thursday, with his wife Lubna having been found guilty of the latter two by a jury back in April, feds said.

Associates of Chowdhury were also found guilty, prosecutors said.

He’s been found guilty of three charges of kidnapping and three charges of conspiring to kidnap, and faces a maximum penalty of life in prison, prosecutors said.  …

A Cuban national who took part in a $20 million human smuggling scheme that brought hundreds of Cubans into the US was convicted by a federal jury on Thursday and faces up to 20 years in prison, the Department of Justice said.

Lazaro Alain Cabrera-Rodriguez, 28, of Florida, was found guilty over his role in the smuggling and money laundering scheme shut down last year, which saw his travel agency charge between $1,500 and $40,000 for bogus immigration services.

The agency was accused of promoting bogus visa services from January 2021 through June 2025, effectively tricking Cubans into thinking that they could enter America legally by posing as European citizens.

“Lazaro Alain Cabrera-Rodriguez used his travel agency as a front to illegally smuggle Cuban aliens into the United States,” said Assistant Attorney General A. Tysen Duva of the Justice Department’s Criminal Division.

“His travel agency provided a veneer of legitimacy to evade detection when the defendant falsely completed and filed at least 600 applications for visa waivers, arranged to fly the aliens from Cuba to third countries, further coordinated with other smugglers throughout the Americas, and laundered over $20 million through 57 bank accounts,” Duva added.

Cabrera-Rodriguez’s “ASESORIA Y SERVICIOS MIGRATORIOS LLC” would go on to fabricate documents, charter private planes and launder money through the Zelle payment app, according to the DOJ.

The company promoted itself on social media as dedicated to helping immigrants fill out permits and asylum paperwork, but in reality, the defendants filed hundreds of fake Electronic System for Travel Authorization (ESTA) applications to US Customs and Border Protection. …

Aremote worker fired for refusing COVID-19 vaccination on religious grounds has received a $200,000 settlement after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission brought a charge against her employer, her lawyers at the First Liberty Institute said.

A “devout Catholic” who worked from home for Arrow Electronics, Maria Govea sought a religious accommodation from the company’s vacccine mandate yet it rejected her request for lack of “religiosity,” according to First Liberty. She filed an EEOC complaint and the agency investigated, prompting a settlement.

“As people of faith confront a hostile corporate culture, it’s perhaps more important than ever to understand what the law says about religious discrimination and accommodation,” said senior counsel Cliff Martin.

First Liberty didn’t immediately answer a request to see the settlement.

Jack Smith to testify in front of Senate Judiciary Committee next week

Jack Smith to testify in front of Senate Judiciary Committee next week

The Senate Judiciary Committee announced Friday that former Special Counsel Jack Smith will testify in front of the panel next week about his Arctic Frost investigation.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Chuck Grassley has led the Senate’s investigation into Smith and his alleged efforts to prosecute President Donald Trump and his allies, which included the revelation that Smith subpoenaed phone records of multiple GOP lawmakers during the Arctic Frost investigation.

Smith will now testify in front of the panel on Tuesday, Sept. 29.

“Jack Smith must answer for what he did to hundreds of Republican groups and individuals,” Grassley said in a statement. “

The records made public to-date show rampant abuse of authority and political targeting – all on the taxpayers’ dime.

“If Jack Smith did that to Democrats, you’d never hear the end of it,” he continued. “I look forward to achieving some accountability on the part of the misguided Biden Justice Department.”

The committee hearing will take place in the Hart Senate Office Building and will begin at 9 a.m. Eastern.

SCOTUS reinstates Trump’s voter citizenship verification rules

The Supreme Court on Friday reinstated President Donald Trump’s voter citizenship verification rules.

In 2025, Trump signed an executive order directing the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to permit state and local officials to verify the citizenship of persons registering to vote.

After the DHS expanded Systematic Alien Verification for Entitlements (SAVE) program, a coalition of voter advocacy groups sued, arguing the use of Social Security numbers would cause confidentiality problems.

The Friday order granted a stay on the lower court’s injunction of the policy.

But the stay is only provisional and could become moot if the Supreme Court declines to hear the matter in full.

The court did note, however, that the impact of the stay would likely be limited in the short term, since federal law bars the clearing of voter rolls close to an election.

PLANNED PARENTHOOD’S BURIED ORIGINS

Pro-life advocate and White Rose Resistance CEO Seth Gruber traces what he describes as the disturbing connections between Planned Parenthood’s origins, the American eugenics movement and Nazi racial ideology.

From Margaret Sanger’s 1939 “Negro Project” to white supremacist author Lothrop Stoddard’s role in the early birth-control movement, Gruber lays out names, writings and associations he says expose a history few Americans have ever been told.

He also connects Stoddard’s book The Menace of the Underman to the Nazi term Untermensch, or “subhuman,” arguing that the ideology behind Nazi racial cleansing was deeply influenced by American eugenicists associated with the movement that became Planned Parenthood.

Colossal hurricane explodes back into Cat-5 monster as wind speeds ramp up and it heads toward US

Colossal hurricane explodes back into Cat-5 monster as wind speeds ramp up and it heads toward US

Hurricane Polo is intensifying as it stalks Baja California Sur’s coast ahead of its projected landfall next week.

The hurricane’s wind speeds have been estimated at 180 mph, well above the Category 5 threshold, NOAA said in an update Friday morning.

“Recent satellite intensity estimates indicate that Polo has significantly strengthened with maximum sustained winds now estimated to be 180 mph,” the public advisory said. A subsequent advisory said to expect “fluctuations in intensity” on Friday and “some weakening” this weekend.

Forecasters ultimately expect it to near Baja California Sur as a strong hurricane early next week.

While the hurricane is not currently projected to make landfall in California, the hurricane’s current track carries it through Mexico to Texas and New Mexico by midweek next week.

Devastating effects in Baja California Sur including heavy rainfall that could cause flooding and mudslides is anticipated.

Embassy officials have warned American tourists about the danger of staying for the storm, and have advised them to listen to local media and follow directions of local officials.

NOAA forecasters have advised locals to “closely watch” the storm as watches could issued as soon as Saturday.

Internet meteorolgist Max Velocity expressed amazement on X at the storm’s spectacular strength.

“This is an extraordinary milestone: Polo is the first hurricane on record to reach Category 5 strength three separate times with all three peaks occurring in the Eastern Pacific,” he wrote. “And at 180 mph, Polo has once again reached the third-highest wind speed ever recorded in the Eastern Pacific. Polo is certainly one for the history books.” ….
