Core Inflation Falls To Lowest Rate In Four Years

(Photo by SAUL LOEB/AFP via Getty Images)

Prices barely climbed in April, pulling the annual rate of inflation down toward the Federal Reserve’s two percent target, even while personal income climbed at a rapid rate.

The personal consumption price index climbed 0.1 percent in April, the second month in a row in which consumers got relief from inflation that had plagued the economy throughout the Biden administration. In March, the index showed prices were flat.

Compared with a year ago, prices are up just 2.1 percent. That just one-tenth above the two percent rate of inflation the Fed says it targets. In March, prices were up 2.3 percent from a year earlier.

Core prices, a measure that excludes food and energy, also rose 0.1 percent. Over the past year, core prices are up 2.5 percent, the smallest year-over-year increase since March of 2021.

Trade Deficit Narrows As Imports Plunge and Exports Rise

The U.S. trade deficit in goods contracted far more than expected in April, falling from March’s record high of $162.3 billion to $87.6 billion, according to the Commerce Department’s initial estimate released Friday.

Economists had forecast a $143 billion deficit.

Imports of goods for April were $276.1 billion, $68.4 billion less than March imports. Goods exports rose $6.3 billion to $188.5 billion.

Many businesses and some consumers appear to have loaded up on imports in March, ahead of the Liberation Day tariff announcement. This so-called tariff front-running led to a surge in imports, pulling forward purchases that would have otherwise been made later in the year.

The April decline is likely an extension of this, with purchases of imports falling because household and business inventories were already stocked. In addition, some imports faced higher tariffs in April, likely discouraging purchases.

Schweizer: Harmeet Dhillon Taking on the Legal ‘Deep State’ at the Department of Justice

Harmeet Dhillon, assistant attorney general for the Civil Rights Division of the Department of Justice (DOJ), is cleaning out the politicized division with a focus on ending the DOJ’s George Floyd-era agreements with police departments that have turned several cities into crime-ridden hellholes.

Joining hosts Peter Schweizer and Eric Eggers on the latest episode of the Drill Down podcast, Dhillon says that consent decrees and Biden-era meddling with law enforcement are “an immediate horror story for law-abiding citizens.”

And it’s all coming out of the DOJ’s Civil Rights Division.

“When people think about the ‘Deep State,’ they tend to think about the Pentagon or the intelligence community or some of the stuff that DOGE is shaking up,” Schweizer says. “But, in a lot of respects, the legal ‘Deep State’ is exactly where you are: the Civil Rights Division,” Schweizer says of Dhillon.

Dhillon is overhauling the Civil Rights Division at the DOJ — and she’s not sugarcoating it.

Career lawyers loyal to Obama-era agendas refused to follow orders, so over 200 quit. Dhillon makes it clear: Trump won, priorities changed, and civil rights will now focus on individual liberty — not Marxist groupthink…

Loretta Swit, who won two Emmy Awards playing Major Margaret Houlihan, the demanding head nurse of a behind-the-lines surgical unit during the Korean War on the pioneering hit TV series “M.A.S.H.,” has died. She was 87.

Publicist Harlan Boll says Swit died Friday at her home in New York City, likely from natural causes.

Swit and Alan Alda were the longest-serving cast members on “M.A.S.H.,” which was based on Robert Altman’s 1970 film, which was itself based on a novel by Richard Hooker, the pseudonym of H. Richard Hornberger…

Medical journal ‘cartel’ that demonized lab-leak, hydroxychloroquine shown the door by Kennedy

The legitimacy of prestigious medical and scientific journals is under siege as the Trump administration threatens to take federal research elsewhere and scrutiny falls on their alleged coziness with regulators, interest groups and drugmakers, with perhaps the most serious consequences in the integrity of COVID-19 origin research.

Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. called out the New England Journal of Medicine, Journal of the American Medical Association and The Lancet as “corrupt,” on The Ultimate Human podcast Tuesday.

The National Institutes of Health will “probably” stop publishing its scientists’ research there, and each institute will set up its own journal “unless these journals change dramatically,” he said.

One obvious target for publishing is the new Journal of the Academy of Public Health, established in part by NIH Director Jay Bhattacharya and Food and Drug Administration Commissioner Marty Makary shortly before they were tapped for the new administration.

HHS also plans to devote “probably 20% of NIH’s budget to replication” to address the longstanding irreproducibility crisis, he said. “Every study has to be replicated.”

Asked which medical journals weren’t on Kennedy’s blacklist, an HHS spokesperson told Just the News its “top priority is to ensure scientific research remains rigorous, transparent, and accessible to the American people. The secretary urges leading medical journals to increase transparency and reduce editorial bias.”

It’s just one of many big changes in the federal public health agencies, with Kennedy and his Argentine counterpart announcing they are creating an “alternative international health system” to the World Health Organization in the wake of WHO’s first-ever pandemic treaty

Soldier discharged under Biden after refusing COVID vax finally gets justice, thanks to Trump

Mark Bashaw, a former lieutenant in the U.S. Army, finally has a measure of justice after he was criminally convicted and discharged for refusing to abide by COVID-related protocols implemented under President Joe Biden.

In August 2021, then-Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin imposed a COVID vaccine mandate for members of the military, claiming the shots were critical for maintaining healthy, ready armed forces. Those like Bashaw who refused were required either to work from home or to subject themselves to COVID testing before going into the office, where they would have to wear a mask.

Bashaw — the company commander of the Army Public Health Center in Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland — refused to abide by those directives. As a result, he was convicted by a court martial in 2022 of failing to obey lawful orders.

In a 2023 social media post, he claimed he had been court-martialed because he “refused to participate with lies.” Following his conviction, he was involuntarily discharged.

Some 8,000 service members were similarly discharged from the military for refusing the shot. However, Bashaw is believed to have been the first to be court-martialed for failing to adhere to the COVID protocols issued by Austin, The Hill reported.

On Wednesday, President Donald Trump issued Bashaw a full and unconditional pardon.

Bashaw’s conviction did not result in any jail sentence, but it did give him a criminal record. Trump’s pardon wipes his record clean.

Bashaw celebrated the news of his pardon on social media: “I just received a Presidential Pardon from President Donald J. Trump. I am humbled, grateful, and ready to continue fighting for truth and justice in this great nation. Thank you, Mr. President @realDonaldTrump and to your incredible team.”

After thanking others, including former U.S. Attorney for D.C. Ed Martin, Bashaw’s post added: “Time for accountability!” It also included an image that described COVID as a “plandemic.”…

Biased buzzwords like “abuse of power” apply to Trump pardons. However, President Joe Biden pardoning Democrat lawmakers and family members is certainly understandable to the media.

“I Will Twist and Turn Our Provisions”: NV DHHS Worker Admits to Aiding Illegal Immigrants

Deshaun Eli Mack, a Family Services Specialist with the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS), has been caught on hidden camera admitting to intentionally violating state policies to provide government-funded benefits to undocumented immigrants.

Mack detailed how he manipulates the system to offer extended emergency Medicaid coverage to illegals, stating, “I get them emergency medical all the time… just because I want to.”

According to Mack, emergency Medicaid for undocumented immigrants is supposed to be granted on a month-to-month basis and only for severe, qualifying conditions. However, he confessed that he bypasses this process entirely. “They’re supposed to apply every month,” he said, “so I just approve them for 12 months… because I can.”

Reports: Houthis Expand Alliance with Al Qaeda-Linked African Jihadis

Al-Shabaab is an al-Qaeda affiliate based in Somalia that also engages in regular terrorist activity in neighboring Kenya. Some reports indicate that the Houthis are also looking to collaborate with the Islamic State in the African country, which has faced targeted American attacks after the inauguration of President Donald Trump.

White House officials have detailed that the Islamic State and similar terror gangs in the region thrived under the administration of former President Joe Biden as a result of Biden’s rules of engagement that the U.S. military only “watch” their activity but do nothing to contain their attacks.

The Houthis, formally known as “Ansar Allah,” are one of the many arms of the Iranian global terrorist network and currently control Sana’a, the capital of Yemen, after waging over a decade of civil war in that country. They have become a global threat after declaring war on Israel in October 2023 in solidarity with fellow Iran proxy terror group Hamas.

They have mainly executed on that war threat by launching a terrorist campaign against all global commercial shipping attempting to traffic into and out of the Red Sea, forcing ships to reroute away from the Suez Canal and take the far more expensive route around the Cape of Good Hope in South Africa.

Somalia’s Shabelle Media Network reported on Friday that “the Houthis have dispatched bomb-making experts to Jilib, a stronghold of Al-Shabaab in Somalia’s Middle Juba region,” citing the United Nations and the Washington Post.

The relevant Post story, published on Tuesday, claimed that growing terror cooperation between Sunni Somali terrorists and the Shiite Houthis has been a threat for months and highlighted a U.N. report released in February in which they documented meetings between al-Shabaab and Houthi leaders that resulted in the transfer of a Houthi “bomb expert” to Somalia….

DOJ: Government Employee who Hates Trump Tried to Share Classified Information with Foreign Spies

boonchai wedmakawand/Getty

Nathan Vilas Laatsch, a 28-year-old IT specialist working for the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) since 2019, was arrested this week in Virginia, the DOJ announced. Laatsch works for the DIA’s Insider Threat Division, where he holds a Top Secret security clearance.

Court documents reveal Laatsch allegedly sent an email to a to an officer or agent of a foreign government, saying he did not “agree or align with the values” of the Trump administration and was therefore “willing to share classified information,” including “completed intelligence products, some unprocessed intelligence, and other assorted classified documentation,” the DOJ said.

In March, the FBI received a tip regarding the email and began communicating with the 28-year-old, posing as a foreign government official.

Laatsch then began transcribing classified information to a notepad at his desk, repeatedly exfiltrated the information from his workspace over a three-day period, before confirming to the FBI agent — whom he believed to be a foreign government official — that he was ready to transmit the information, the DOJ claimed…

ICE agents in Boston arrest migrant murderer, child rapists as Fox News rides along

Fox News embedded exclusively with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in the greater Boston area this week, when agents were carrying out the arrests of hundreds of egregious criminal migrants in what the agency said is the largest operation it has undertaken since President Donald Trump returned to office.

The sweeping operation is expected to net hundreds of arrests and is targeting immigrants like a Salvadoran illegal immigrant convicted of child rape who went to prison and was deported in 2017.

He was nabbed by ICE living right next to a children’s playground.

ICE also swooped on another illegal migrant who is on El Salvador’s most wanted list and has an Interpol Red Notice for aggravated murder, aggravated kidnapping and robbery.

Both arrests were captured exclusively on camera by Fox News, with ICE Boston telling Fox News that local anti-ICE activists have been interfering in their operations this week.

ICE deployed dozens of teams across Massachusetts this week, and the agency brought in ICE teams from other parts of the country to assist.

Patricia Hyde, the head of ICE Boston, said it is not uncommon to see immigrants convicted of child rape roaming public streets close to where children play.

It’s not unusual. Due to the open border policies, we are finding that plenty of people who have been previously deported and committed heinous crimes and were removed from the country are now back here, just living among us,” Hyde said. “And now that’s our job to go round them up.”

Study: 83 Percent Of ER Visits Due To Drug-Induced Abortions Miscoded As ’Miscarriages’

The likelihood that a woman seeking emergency care for a potentially life-threatening complication following an abortion will have her abortion misclassified as a miscarriage has increased significantly over the last decade, a new peer-reviewed study from the Charlotte Lozier Institute found.

The study’s nine authors warn that more misclassification, often due to deliberate concealment of a drug-induced abortion, could deprive women of the emergent care they need for the serious adverse events linked to abortions, more specifically those involving mifepristone.

Researchers interested in how hospitals handle treatment for women who experience complications after abortions examined nearly 29,000 anonymized ER Medicaid claims ranging from 2016 to 2021 among women who had chemically or surgically ended a pregnancy in the last 30 days. They determined that 83.5 percent of the abortion drug-induced ER visits during that period were miscoded, often as miscarriage.

That figure not only represented a steep increase in miscodes from the 2004 to 2015 data, but also confirmed that “visits following chemical abortion are significantly more likely to be incorrectly coded as following spontaneous abortion than are visits following surgical abortion.”…

Israel backs US ceasefire plan; Hamas holds off

Israel has agreed to a new U.S.-backed proposal for a temporary ceasefire in Gaza, according to the White House, though Hamas officials have not formally responded. President Donald Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has been leading negotiations aimed at halting the war and securing the release of hostages still held by Hamas.

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed Thursday, May 29, that Israel approved the proposal before the U.S. presented it to Hamas.

However, Hamas issued a cautious response, saying it would study the draft further. A senior Hamas official told the BBC the plan does not meet core demands, such as a permanent end to the war or humanitarian guarantees.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has vowed to continue the war until Israel frees all hostages and Hamas is dismantled or exiled. He has also suggested that Israel intends to maintain long-term security control over Gaza.

Hamas, for its part, demands a full Israeli withdrawal and the formation of a politically independent Palestinian committee to govern Gaza. The group is still holding 58 hostages, though analysts believe only a fraction are likely still alive…

ICE illegally gains informal access to nationwide license plate camera network

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) gained indirect access to a vast network of AI-powered license plate reader cameras operated by Flock Safety, according to documents reviewed by 404 Media. ICE has no direct agreement with Flock, but has accessed the system through search requests routed via local and state law enforcement.

The data, obtained from Danville, Illinois, through a public records request, revealed more than 4,000 lookups between June 2024 and May 2025 that listed reasons such as “immigration,” “ICE+ERO” or “ICE WARRANT.” These lookups were conducted by agencies across dozens of states, including police departments in Texas, Florida, Missouri and Arizona. In many cases, local officers acted on informal requests from federal agents.

Flock Safety operates over 40,000 automatic license plate reader (ALPR) cameras in more than 5,000 U.S. communities.

The cameras continuously record vehicle data, including license plates, color, make and sometimes unique features such as bumper stickers or missing hubcaps. Officers using the system can track a vehicle’s movements over time, often without needing a warrant.

According to the company’s documentation, agencies using the ‘National Lookup’ tool can query camera data from jurisdictions nationwide. The company claims that local users control the data and decide who can access it, although critics argue that the audit logs suggest limited oversight….

‘Double Tragedy’: Twins’ Deaths Likely Caused by Vaccines, Not Parents

It’s “absolutely absurd” that the parents of twin babies who died a week after receiving three vaccines are still under suspicion for killing their children, according to Dr. Pierre Kory, who reviewed the twins’ medical records.

Vaccine-related sudden infant deaths (SIDs) are “tragic” and unfortunately, “as common as the day is long,” Kory said in an interview Wednesday with Children’s Health Defense’s (CHD) Polly Tommey.

Kory spoke with Tommey, CHD.TV program director, about the deaths of 18-month-old Dallas and her twin brother, Tyson.

‘Such a double tragedy’

The babies died about seven days after receiving the flu shot, the Hepatitis A vaccine and the DTaP (diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis) vaccine at their 18-month wellness visit.

When the mother brought the twins in for their wellness visit on April 23, she and her mother-in-law told the pediatrician they had concerns about the twins receiving the flu shot because the father’s family had a history of adverse reactions to the vaccine. The pediatrician told them the babies would be OK and had nurses give the twins the shots.

The next morning, the babies’ lips were blue and they were lethargic, according to Angela Wulbrecht, a registered nurse with the Vaccine Safety Research Foundation, who has assisted the parents in filing a report with the Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System, or VAERS.

Wulbrecht, who also spoke with Tommey, said the babies continued to be very sick for the rest of that week. The morning of May 1, the mother found the babies dead in their bed after apparently passing away in their sleep….

Trump agency uncovers ‘one of the largest’ food stamp fraud, bribery schemes

(Daniel Acker/Bloomberg via Getty Images / Getty Images)

A U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) employee and five others are under arrest as of Friday morning, after allegedly misappropriating tens of millions of dollars in taxpayer food stamp funds.

“At [the] USDA, we are hyper-focused… on rooting out that waste, fraud and abuse, and… yesterday was, if not the largest, one of [the] largest stings,” Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins said Friday on “Mornings with Maria.”

“This is a new day, and President Trump promised, as he was traveling across the country over the last few years,” she continued, “that it would not be the government that we know.”

With the assistance of the FBI and U.S. attorney’s office, six individuals have been criminally charged with a bribe and fraud scheme that generated more than $66 million in unauthorized transactions under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), otherwise known as food stamps.

The defendants — Michael Kehoe, Mohamad Nawafleh, Omar Alrawashdeh, Gamal Obaid, Emad Alrawashdeh and Arlasa Davis — are accused of “conspiracy to steal government funds and to misappropriate U.S. Department of Agriculture benefits,” according to a press release.

Supreme Court allows Trump to revoke legal status of 500,000 immigrants

The Supreme Court on Friday allowed the Trump administration to revoke temporary legal status granted to more than 500,000 immigrants by the Biden administration.

The court granted an emergency application filed by Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem that ends the Biden program that gave 532,000 people from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela permission to temporarily live and work in the United States.

The brief order noted that liberal justices Ketanji Brown Jackson and Sonia Sotomayor dissented.

Jackson wrote that the court had failed to take into account “the devastating consequences of allowing the government to precipitously upend the lives and livelihoods of nearly half a million noncitizens while their legal claims are pending.”

The administration was contesting a ruling by Massachusetts-based U.S. District Judge Indira Talwani, who ruled the administration could not sweep away each person’s status without an individualized determination.

Starting in 2022, then-Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas granted what is called parole for two years to people from the affected countries in part to alleviate the surge of immigrants arriving in the U.S.-Mexico border.

The policy, known as the CHNV parole programs, allowed immigrants who passed a security check and who had a sponsor in the United States who could provide housing, to enter the country and stay.
