Ohio Toddler Dies After Mom Allegedly Leaves Child Home Alone for 10 Days to Go on Vacation
Kristel Candelario, 31, of Cleveland, was arrested on June 18 and charged with murder, online court records state.
She allegedly told investigators she had left the 16-month-old “at home, all alone and unattended,” while she traveled to Michigan and Puerto Rico, the affidavit states.
When she returned, she allegedly found her daughter to be “extremely dehydrated,” according to the affidavit.

Photos of Hunter Biden on his later-abandoned laptop show him at President Joe Biden’s Wilmington, Delaware, home on the day he included his father’s name in a WhatsApp message he sent to threaten his Chinese business associate.
In the July 30, 2017, message sent to Henry Zhao, an official working with Chinese energy conglomerate CEFC Energy, Hunter Biden said he was sitting next to his father and “we would like to understand why the commitment made has not been fulfilled.”
“I am sitting here waiting for the call with my father,” the younger Biden added in a follow-up message, noting that it was 9:45 a.m. when he sent it. “I sure hope whatever it is you are doing is very very important.”
Hackers Steal Private Data of 769,000 CalPERS Retirees
The hackers were able to steal this information by taking advantage of a vulnerability in a contracted vendor’s cybersecurity system, according to a report by the Sacramento Bee.
The hackers may have also obtained information on CalPERS members’ former or current employers, spouses or domestic partners, and children, the report added.
Nonetheless, members appear to be furious over the matter. Randy Cheek, legislative director of the Retired Public Employees Association, told the Sacramento Bee that he was livid upon learning that he and others who were affected were not immediately told about it.

Stacie Marie Laughton, a Democrat who previously resigned twice from the New Hampshire state house, is now facing four counts of distributing sexually explicit images of children. Laughton was born Barry Charles Laughton, Jr.
The 39-year-old has been plagued by repeated legal troubles in the past. In 2008, he was convicted of credit card felony, according to the New Hampshire Union-Leader. In 2012, Laughton became the first transgender-identifying person elected as a state lawmaker, thrilling LGBT activists.
Laughton won election to the state house again in November 2022, only to step down in December after accusations of stalking. Laughton had been arrested on stalking charges twice in 2022, including an incident in September just months before the election.
Supreme Court Upholds Law on Aiding Illegal Immigration
The Supreme Court on Friday upheld a section of federal law used to prosecute people who encourage illegal immigration, ruling against a California man who offered adult adoptions he falsely claimed would lead to U.S. citizenship.
The court by a 7-2 vote rejected arguments that the law is too broad and violates the Constitution.
The case involves a section of federal immigration law that says a person who “encourages or induces” a non-citizen to come to or remain in the U.S. illegally can be punished by up to five years in prison.
That’s increased to 10 years if the person doing the encouraging is doing so for personal financial gain.

He added, “One of the things I think we need to continue to invest in is infrastructure across the southwest border, technology, roads. In some areas, we need to continue to build some wall.

This isn’t just a U.S. southwest border problem. We’re seeing traffic increases on the northern border in Vermont. We’re seeing it in Puerto Rico. We’re seeing it in southern Florida.
Supreme Court: States can’t sue over Biden’s immigration policies
States can’t use the federal courts to try to force the federal government to arrest and deport more people who are in the country illegally, the Supreme Court ruled Friday.
The 8-1 decision could cut down on a flood of lawsuits recent administrations have faced from state attorneys general and governors who disagree with Washington on immigration and crime policy.
The high court’s ruling found that Texas and Louisiana lacked standing to pursue litigation challenging immigration enforcement priorities established by President Joe Biden’s administration soon after he took office.

Video shows driver repeatedly ram L.A. County deputy’s SUV, get shot
As the deputy rolls into the intersection, video recorded by a witness shows the driver intentionally slamming into the rear of the deputy’s SUV.
The suspect briefly opens and closes his door, backs up, and then crashes into the deputy two more times at which point the deputy opens fire.
The suspect back up yet again, and then crashes into the deputy for a fourth time.
The deputy continues firing shots until the suspect’s SUV slowly circles backward and comes to a stop, the video shows.
Antisemitic rants have no place in California’s public meetings
These incursions into civic life are all the more dangerous as we bear witness to a historic increase in antisemitism across our state and country. Northern California and the Bay Area are not immune.
According to the Anti-Defamation League’s 2022 annual audit of antisemitic incidents, there were 166 incidents (up 137% from 70 in 2021) in our region, including 54 instances of vandalism of businesses, places of worship, public spaces, K-12 schools and colleges, 110 episodes of targeted harassment and two assaults.
California had the second-highest number of recorded incidents (518) just after New York with 580. Nationally, antisemitic events surged to historic levels in 2022, with 3,697 incidents in the United States, an increase of 36% compared to 2021 — also a record-setting year. The audit found, on average, 10 incidents for each day in 2022 — the highest level of antisemitic activity since ADL started tracking in 1979.

Report Decries ‘Merciless Targeting of Christians’ Around the World
Today, “almost 340 million Christians around the world — or 1 out of every 7 — live in a country where they suffer some form of persecution, such as arbitrary arrest, violence, a full range of human rights violations and even murder,” the report states.
In its global efforts, ACN “is committed to chronicling and assessing the evolving phenomenon of the persecution of Christians around the world today,” it declares.
Regarding the diverse drivers of Christian persecution worldwide, the report states that Christians are primarily persecuted “because of their faith” but economic and political situations “further deepen this problem.”
“In some countries, Christians are seen as a threat to the ruling government, and their persecution is a way to maintain control,” the report says, observing that some 4.5 billion people around the globe live under authoritarian regimes where religious freedom is not respected.
Meta says it will block news from Facebook, Instagram in Canada
Meta said Thursday that it plans to follow through with a threat to block Canadians from sharing news on its platforms, after the federal government passed a law requiring digital firms to pay domestic media organizations for their content.
“We have repeatedly shared that in order to comply with Bill C-18, passed today in Parliament, content from news outlets, including news publishers and broadcasters, will no longer be available to people accessing our platforms in Canada,” the parent company of Facebook said in a statement.
It is also one of several similar proposals under consideration around the world that aim to sustain floundering news industries by requiring social media firms to negotiate compensation with media organizations for the content that is shared on their platforms.
Media organizations have long argued that Silicon Valley giants should share more of their revenue with them because the advertising dollars that had long sustained their businesses were decimated by the rise of the internet and firms such as Facebook and Google.
