Fate of Reparations Hangs in Balance as California Mulls Final Report

From left, State Sen. Steven Bradford, Secretary of State Shirley Weber, task force member Lisa Holder and Assemblymember Reggie Jones-Sawyer hold up a final report of the California Task Force to Study and Develop Reparation Proposals for African Americans during a hearing in Sacramento, Calif., Thursday, June 29, 2023. The report heads to lawmakers who will be responsible for turning policy recommendations into legislation. Reparations will not happen until lawmakers and Gov. Gavin Newsom agree. (AP Photo/Haven Daley)

It includes lengthy calculations of what the value of reparations should be.

These include compensating black Californians for the disparity in life expectancy between blacks and “non-Hispanic” whites ($966,918 per capita for each lifelong resident); compensating black Californians for the estimated costs of incarceration for black people ($159,792 each); compensating black Californians for the inequalities in wealth ascribed to housing discrimination ($148,630 each); and compensating for differences in business wealth ($77,000 each).

That thumbnail sketch of per capita reparations, approaching $1.4 million each, is not final; it would also only be available to descendants of African slaves.

Even if limited to that category, it would cost hundreds of billions of dollars.

The report does not say how it expects the state legislature, currently running a large deficit, to pay.

A clearer picture of the status of homelessness in Los Angeles County came into focus Thursday with the release of the 2023 Greater Los Angeles Homeless Count, and after some brief hope offered by last year’s results, the downward trend is continuing.

The Los Angeles Homeless Services Authority revealed “a 9% rise in homelessness on any given night in Los Angeles County to an estimated 75,518 people and a 10% rise in the City of Los Angeles to an estimated 46,260 people.”

“While this year’s increases are slightly lower than previous year-over-year increases in the homeless count, they continue a steady growth trend of people experiencing homelessness in the annual Point-in-Time Count,” the release said.

Rob Malley, Biden’s Iran Envoy, Suspected of Mishandling Classified Material

Rob Malley, who serves as President Joe Biden’s envoy on Iran, has been placed on leave without pay and his security clearance has been suspended pending an investigation into mishandling classified materials.

Malley has a long and controversial history, and has long been suspected of being too sympathetic to Iran and to radical Islamic terrorists in general. As Breitbart News reported upon his appointment by Biden in 2021:

Malley is a radical with a long record of foreign policy failure.

In 2008, the Obama campaign booted Malley after it emerged he met with Palestinian terror group Hamas. In 2015, he was brought into the Obama administration to work on the hopelessly weak Iran nuclear deal. Malley was then named as ISIS “czar,” leading Obama’s hapless effort.

Malley appeared to learned nothing from his mistakes. In 2018, when President Trump supported protests against the Iranian regime, Malley joined the critics who said Trump should “be quiet.”

In a 6-3 decision, the court held that federal law does not allow the Secretary of Education to cancel more than $430 billion in student loan debt.

“The Secretary’s plan canceled roughly $430 billion of federal student loan balances, completely erasing the debts of 20 million borrowers and lowering the median amount owed by the other 23 million from $29,400 to $13,600,” Chief Justice John Roberts wrote for the majority. “Six States sued, arguing that the HEROES Act does not authorize the loan cancellation plan. We agree.”

President Biden strongly disagreed with the court’s decision and will make an announcement later today detailing new actions to protect student loan borrowers, a White House source told Fox News Digital.

‘Unprecedented corruption’ – Ukrainian business federation says corruption is damaging country’s defensive capabilities

Ukraine, a country already known for vast amounts of corruption, has grown far worse in this regard since the war broke out, and the business community is demanding action.

The Federation of Employers of Ukraine, representing Ukrainian entrepreneurs, issued an appeal to President Volodymyr Zelensky on Wednesday, demanding action to curb the abuse of power by government officials.

The abuse of power by military officials and judges has crossed all limits, according to Ukrainian entrepreneurs, who are calling for the establishment of a public registry to identify corrupt officials.

They argue that corruption on an unprecedented scale is eroding Ukraine’s defensive capabilities.

Despite the ongoing war, they contend that the level of coercion, corruption and impunity among state officials is currently the highest in history, as reported by the Ukrainian Pravda news portal.

New evidence suggests Ukraine used banned landmines: HRW

In response to these findings, HRW called upon the Ukrainian government to honor its commitment, made earlier this month, to refrain from using prohibited weapons.

“The Ukrainian government’s pledge to investigate its military’s apparent use of banned anti-personnel mines is an important recognition of its duty to protect civilians,” Steve Goose, Human Rights Watch’s arms director, said in a statement.

The latest report is a follow-on to one from January which said that Ukrainian forces had fired rockets which scattered thousands of mines in Russian-controlled areas around the eastern city of Izium, between April and September 2022.

HRW said that fresh evidence comes from photos posted online by a person working in eastern Ukraine, showing warhead sections of Uragan 220mm rockets, which contained antipersonnel mines.

The article focused on the efforts of a Ukrainian drone reconnaissance unit, as witnessed by a correspondent.

The team’s commander, a sergeant named Grigory Volkov, said his side was “kind of shocked” by the scale of Russian defenses, which have multiple layers and were well prepared to fend off storming forces.

Now the Ukrainians are moving slowly and trying to conserve their limited supplies of ammunition.

As Rocket Attacks Rise in Judea, Samaria, Israeli Leaders Urge Palestinian Authority to Take Acti

JERUSALEM, Israel – Leaders in Israel recently reached out to their Palestinian counterparts ahead of a Muslim observance, wishing them a happy holiday. They accompanied that greeting with a call to the Palestinian Authority to combat rising terrorism and violence.

The holiday outreach followed a surprise attack when Palestinian terrorists launched 2 rockets from Jenin for the first time in 18 years – a claim later refuted by Hamas.

Although the rockets fell short of their target, it’s just the latest example of violence in the northern West Bank, part of the area the Bible calls Judea and Samaria. Dozens of Israelis have been killed or wounded in hundreds of attacks since the beginning of the year.

Debanking Has Arrived: Farage Pursues Legal Action as He’s Left Without Bank Account

Farage had banked with the same banking group since the 1980s for both personal and business, he said, and that no reason was given for his longstanding relationship with the unnamed bank being terminated.

Incredibly, the Brexit leader said he approached seven other British banks and they all refused to give him an account. Speaking on Thursday, Farage said:

“I’ve been living with something the past couple of months that may well fundamentally affect my future career and whether I can even stay living in this country… I got a phone call a couple of months ago to say ‘we are closing your accounts’. I asked why, but no reason was given. I was told a letter was coming that would explain everything.

Revealing his family was also being targeted, the Brexit leader told viewers: “Some of these ridiculous rules and closures have been extended to my immediate family.

Violence Spiralling Out of Control in France: Massive Police Deployment Fails to Quell Burnings

Getty Images

Per France’s Le Figaro reports there were 875 arrests overnight nationwide, which saw protest and violence spread to urban areas across the country and even to neighbouring Belgium, the home of the European Union. Figures that underline the considerable scale of the attacks reveal there were some 3,880 fires set overnight, 249 police officers injured — although none seriously — and 492 buildings damaged.

Among those buildings damaged were several town halls and schools burnt out, reports state. Le Parisien cites the Interior Ministry to report 80 police stations were damaged overnight, 34 town halls burnt or otherwise damaged, 28 schools, and 57 other state buildings nationwide. Attacks on symbols of the state appeared so targeted even individual post-boxes were attacked. President of the French Republican Party Eric Ciotti posted footage to social media that claimed to show a French mayor being attacked by a mob as his car was set on fire.

In Marseille, two off-duty police officers were recognised out of uniform and were “seriously injured” in what has been described as a “lynching”.

According to a report from The Sun, Britain’s top-circulated daily newspaper, a 33-year-old man from an undisclosed foreign country has been charged with raping a woman only 40 days after entering the UK illegally by boat.

The paper reported that the supposed asylum seeker is claimed to have dragged his alleged victim into the bushes of a park in the town of Skegness in Lincolnshire whereupon it is claimed that he raped her.

The newspaper claimed that government officials and prosecutors are seeking to determine if he had prior convictions before breaking into Britain.

Responding to the case, Skegness MP Matt Warman said the allegations against the asylum seeker are “hugely shocking” and “understandably raised a number of significant concerns”.

Commentary:

“They’ve all been killed, it’s OVER”- Col. Douglas MacGregor | Redacted News

The New York Times reports that Ukraine failed to take advantage of the political chaos in Russia this weekend.

They couldn’t mount so much as a raid on an artillery battery while Putin was dealing with a so-called “coup”.

Now Putin has a big decision to make either continue to slow grind down Ukraine’s final defenses or unleash a massive invasion with the full weight of the Russian army.

It seems sentiment leans towards the second option. We ask Colonel Douglas MacGregor what he thinks about it.

Are Nord Stream pipeline explosion answers being HIDDEN?!

One of the biggest questions yet to be answered concerns the 2022 Nord Stream pipeline bombing and WHO was responsible for it all.

For some strange reason, the United States — and other world governments too — doesn’t seem to care about finding the truth, leaving ‘private enthusiasts’ to do investigations instead.

The Biden Administration has since placed blame on a group of pro-Ukrainian individuals working alone…but some other investigations hint otherwise. So, what’s the truth?

Is the world’s ‘confusion’ about it all ‘purposeful’? And WHY doesn’t our mainstream media or our U.S. government seem to care about uncovering the REAL answer…?
