Nicaragua is allowing hundreds of flights from Haiti, Cuba in push to use immigration against US, expert say
Since August, there have been 268 charter flights from Haiti to Nicaragua and 172 from Cuba to Nicaragua, according to flight data.
The flight carried 31,000 Haitian immigrants and 17,000 Cubans. In other words, about 60% of Haitian immigrants encountered by U.S. authorities during the same period came from Nicaragua.
The government of Nicaraguan President Daniel Ortega is in a unique position to help migrants seeking to enter the United States from Caribbean islands and elsewhere because it does not require visas for many travelers.
The influx of migrants comes as the United States has offered Venezuela a reprieve from some sanctions if it agrees to hold democratic elections. Orozco said Venezuela accounts for the majority of migrants coming to the United States, and Ortega may be trying to replicate that trend in order to end his own deal with the United States.

The Pentagon in January dipped into a little-known munitions stockpile earmarked for Israel to help Ukraine meet its urgent need for artillery ammunition for its war against Russian invaders after nearly a year of bitter fighting.
The stockpile was intended to support future U.S. and allied military needs in the Middle East. Still, Kyiv was expending thousands of artillery rounds a day as its troops clawed back territory from Moscow.

ACLU Urges Judge to Reconsider Trump Gag Order in DC Election Case
“Trump retains a First Amendment right to speech, and the rest of us retain a right to hear what he has to say,” the ACLU wrote in an amicus brief filed in U.S. District Court in Washington.
The organization argued that the gag order by U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, which she has temporarily lifted, is “unconstitutionally vague” and covers such a broad range of topics that it would “undermine public discussion on matters of public concern.”
The ACLU has been a vocal critic of Trump and frequently challenged his administration’s policies while he was in the White House. The group has faced criticism for veering toward uniform liberal advocacy and away from its traditional stance of defending civil liberties across the political spectrum.

Russian nuclear forces conduct major test
Russia has conducted a major exercise aimed at testing its strategic nuclear forces, the Kremlin confirmed on Wednesday. The drills involved all three components of the nuclear triad: intercontinental ballistic missiles, nuclear-armed submarines, and strategic bombers, the statement said.
According to Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu, the drills focused on the simulated delivery of “a massive nuclear strike by the strategic offensive-oriented forces in response to a nuclear strike by a [simulated] enemy.”
The test also evaluated military leadership readiness capacity to command the strategic nuclear forces, the Kremlin added. All forces involved “followed through” with their goals, it added.

US Sending F-16s To Middle East To Help Protect Troops
The Pentagon announced that a squadron of F-16 Fighting Falcon aircraft has arrived in the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility.

Speaking of the retreat by the Black Sea Fleet to a more distant anchorage, the Ukrainian President continued:

Recently, the Russian leadership was forced to announce the creation of a new base for the Black Sea Fleet – or what’s left of it – on the occupied territory of Georgia.” This move was intended to put the Russian ships “as far as possible from Ukrainian missiles and naval drones”, but despite that, he said, “we will reach them everywhere”.
There are no safe bases for Russia in the Black Sea anymore, Ukrinform reported he said, and that while Zelensky acknowledged he had not yet gained “full fire control over Crimea and its adjacent waters”, this was just a matter of time.

Capitol Police have now concluded their investigation into the September 30 incident that Bowman’s office described as a mistake.

Texas sues Biden administration over federal efforts to ‘destroy’ border fencing
It is the third OLS-related lawsuit filed in the last couple of months.
The first two were filed against Texas after Abbott ordered the installation of marine barriers in the Rio Grande River in Eagle Pass. Texas National Guardsmen and women have also installed thousands of miles of concertina wire and large shipping containers along the riverbank in Eagle Pass, El Paso, Brownsville and other heavily trafficked areas.
In other parts of the border, Texas is continuing to build its first border wall.
Germany: Cabinet approves plan to speed up deportations
Germany’s Cabinet on Wednesday approved legislation designed to make it easier for authorities to carry out the deportation of individuals who have had their asylum requests denied.
The draft, put forth by Interior Minister Nancy Faeser, who, like Chancellor Olaf Scholz, is a Social Democrat, proposes a number of changes to existing deportation rules.
The proposal must now go to the Bundestag, Germany’s parliament, for approval before it can go into effect. A vote is expected in November.
The opposition CDU/CSU has signaled approval. The Greens, a coalition partner, have voiced opposition — with some calling the proposal a massive encroachment on fundamental rights, labelling it disproportionate and too severe.
