Los Angeles County moves to create ‘ICE-free’ zones

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors is moving forward with an effort to create “ICE-free” zones, prohibiting immigration enforcement officers from being on county-owned spaces.
The board voted unanimously Tuesday to instruct county counsel to draft an ordinance for the board’s consideration within 30 days.
The measure, led by Supervisor Lindsay Horvath, would prohibit agents from staging, processing or operating in such areas, if it receives final approval, according to The Los Angeles Times.
“Los Angeles County will not allow its property to be used as a staging ground for violence caused by the Trump administration,” Horvath said.
Horvath said that since ICE’s deployment to Los Angeles in June, “federal immigration enforcement has too often escalated into extreme violence.”
The vote came after an ICE officer last week fatally shot Minneapolis resident Renee Good in a confrontation with ICE agents. The Trump administration said the agent shot Good in self-defense as she attempted to run him over with her vehicle. Critics question whether the agent’s life was in danger and the lethal force was justified.
Trump asks NATO to back Greenland acquisition

President Donald Trump on Wednesday urged NATO to support his bid for a U.S. acquisition of Greenland in response to reporting from Just the News that highlighted Danish intelligence assessments warning of Chinese and Russian interest in the territory.
“NATO: Tell Denmark to get them out of here, NOW! Two dogsleds won’t do it! Only the USA can!!!” Trump posted on Truth Social. “Danish intel warned last year about Russian and Chinese military goals toward Greenland and Arctic.”
Trump made the request in response to a Just the News article which pointed to the Danish Defense Intelligence Service’s (DDIS) October 2025 report stating “China is preparing for a military presence in the Arctic” and that “China’s long-term Arctic interests include Greenland.”
Trump previously floated a U.S. acquisition during his first term, though Denmark was uninterested in a purchase. He has since renewed his bid to buy Greenland, citing national security concerns.
Witkoff announces ‘Phase 2’ of Trump’s Gaza peace plan

Special Envoy Steve Witkoff on Wednesday announced the beginning of “phase two” of President Donald Trump’s peace plan to end the Gaza War, with the goal of implementing the demilitarization of the coastal region.
Last year, Trump negotiated a ceasefire agreement to end active fighting between Israel and Hamas that had persisted since the Oct. 7, 2023, Hamas raid on Israel. The delicate ceasefire has largely held, despite intermittent skirmishes.
“Phase Two establishes a transitional technocratic Palestinian administration in Gaza, the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza (NCAG), and begins the full demilitarization and reconstruction of Gaza, primarily the disarmament of all unauthorized personnel,” Witkoff posted on X. “The US expects Hamas to comply fully with its obligations, including the immediate return of the final deceased hostage. Failure to do so will bring serious consequences.”
Trump has maintained his official support for a two-state solution and multiple western nations have formally recognized Palestinian statehood amid the conflict.
Israel, for its part, suffered considerable loss of international support over its military operations in Gaza, with the International Criminal Court issuing warrants for the arrest of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant….
DC transgender activist gets 3 years in prison, ordered to repay $956K for COVID relief fraud

The founder of a nonprofit that provided LGBTQ+ services in the Washington, D.C. area was sentenced Tuesday to 33 months in prison and ordered to pay $956,215 in restitution for diverting federal COVID-19 relief funds.
The founder, transgender activist Ruby Corado, was also ordered to be under two years of supervised release after the prison sentence, if U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement doesn’t move to deport Corado, Judge Trevor McFadden said in the sentencing hearing.
McFadden in announcing the sentence said Corado “found an opportunity to defraud U.S. Americans,” instead of helping them, according DCNewsNow.com.
Corado, also known as Vladimir Orlando Artiga Corado, pleaded guilty July 17, 2024, to wire fraud.
Corado received more than $1.3 million from the Paycheck Protection Program and the Economic Injury Disaster Loan program for Casa Ruby.
“Instead of using the funds as promised, Corado stole over $950,000, transferred at least $150,000 to bank accounts in El Salvador, and hid it from the IRS,” U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro said. The money is to be repaid to the Small Business Administration…..
ICE: 13 gang members illegally in US arrested in Minneapolis

Immigration and Customs Enforcement said it has arrested 13 members of some of the world’s most dangerous criminal gangs in Minneapolis, a so-called “sanctuary city” currently tense with protest.
At least 1,000 people in the country illegally have been arrested by ICE in the state since “Operation Metro Surge” began in November.
Some of the most recent arrests include immigrants who are alleged members of criminal gangs, including MS-13 — a designated terrorist organization — Paisas, Oriental Boys and more, NewsNation exclusively learned.
The baker’s dozen of criminals have extensive rap sheets that include homicide, sexual assault, and weapons crimes.
“We’re picking up the worst of the worst offenders, and as these cases come in, we’re finding that a significant number of the aliens we arrest — in addition to having serious criminal histories in the U.S. and abroad — are part of dangerous gangs that terrorize communities all over the nation,” ICE Director Todd Lyons said in a statement.
Total arrests by Department of Homeland Security law enforcement in the area hit 2,000 on Monday, up from 1,500 only days prior….
ICE busts child rapist and murderer — 70% of agency’s arrests target criminal illegal aliens with prior charges, convictions

Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents continue their efforts to remove the most dangerous criminal illegal aliens from American communities.
The Department of Homeland Security highlighted the Tuesday arrests of five illegal aliens in a press release exclusively obtained by Blaze News.
“U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) announced the arrest of more worst of the worst criminal illegal aliens from across the country, including those convicted of first-degree rape of a child, homicide, and arson,” the DHS wrote.
Federal agents captured Eduardo Salgado-Martinez, a Mexican national who was previously convicted of first-degree rape of a child in Benton County, Washington.
A 2019 local news report by KEPR-TV explained that Salgado-Martinez’s charges stemmed from an attack in 1995 but that he spent years on the run. Prosecutors claimed he raped two boys, a 7-year-old and a 6-year-old, whom he was babysitting.
Salgado-Martinez’s brother was found guilty of similar charges.
ICE officers nabbed Fermin Flores-Ramales, also from Mexico, who was convicted of rape in New York City.
Khanh Tuan Pham, a Vietnamese national, was convicted of homicide, conspiracy, vehicle theft, and receiving stolen property in San Diego, California…
Exclusive / US gets first $500 million Venezuelan oil deal, holding some proceeds in Qatar

The Trump administration’s first sale of Venezuelan oil is valued at $500 million, an administration official told Semafor.
The sale marks an initial milestone in the administration’s stewardship of Venezuela after the US ouster of its former leader Nicolás Maduro 11 days ago. President Donald Trump has indicated that the US would effectively run Venezuela for an indeterminable amount of time and take control of up to 50 million barrels of its oil — marketing and selling it while distributing the proceeds back to Venezuela in an arrangement with little precedent.
Trump signed an executive order on Friday that provided some details on how the US plans to block courts or creditors from tapping any revenue from those oil sales. Venezuela owes international bondholders, oil companies and others as much as $170 billion — one reason why US firms have been reluctant to help rebuild the country’s infrastructure.
Trump told ConocoPhillips CEO Ryan Lance last week that the US is “not going to look at what people lost in the past, because that was their fault.”
The administration official told Semafor that the interim leadership in Venezuela, led by former Maduro No. 2 Delcy Rodríguez, has “fully cooperated” since the US-Venezuelan energy deal was announced last week, adding that the US has “leverage” through sanctions and oil sales….
Holidaymakers scramble to safety as deadly ‘meteotsunami’ smashes into beach in Argentina

A meteotsunami killed one and left at least 35 injured after it smashed into a beach in Argentina. Sunbathers were taken by surprise when a wall of water, as high as 30ft according to onlookers, surged onto beaches along the coast of Santa Clara del Mar on Monday (12 January).
Footage shows beachgoers scrambling out of the water as they reacted to the unusual phenomenon – which acts like a traditional tsunami but is triggered by sudden atmospheric pressure changes rather than earthquakes.
A 29-year-old man, Yair Manno from Mar del Plata, who was in the country with his partner for a holiday, was killed after he was swept out to sea and hit his head on some rocks.
