Phil Collins’ Health Struggles and Recovery Journey
The former Genesis frontman recounted to the Sunday Times that he was unconscious in April 2024, prompting his manager to gather his children at his bedside for what they thought might be farewell, as he was critically ill.
“There were some serious decisions to be made about whether to keep me on life support,” Collins explained.
At the time, Collins was unaware of the severity of his condition but later learned the distressing details. “My kidneys were failing, and my organs were just shutting down,” he revealed.
He noted that family and friends visited to bid goodbye, but he had no recollection of those moments, saying, “I didn’t have any idea this was happening.”
Reflecting on his health, Collins mentioned, “Everyone was worried that they wouldn’t see me again.” He acknowledged that things could have ended very differently.
After spending seven months in the hospital, he was discharged, but his health issues persisted. Years of alcohol misuse left his pancreas damaged and his kidneys barely functioning.
Collins stated that since his hospitalization, he has not had a drink.
Additionally, he is managing type 2 diabetes and nerve damage, which has led to his retirement from drumming.
His surgeries, including back and knee operations, now require him to use crutches for mobility.
To assist with everyday tasks, Collins has a live-in nurse available around the clock.
Despite the hurdles he faces, Collins expressed gratitude for surviving his near-death experience and considers himself “very lucky” for a second chance at life.
He fondly recalled a poignant moment with his daughter, actress Lily Collins, who was emotionally supportive during his recovery.
“She was sitting beside me in tears, saying, ‘I never thought I’d get these moments.’ We really shared something incredible,” he said. “I can’t overemphasize how fantastic it was.”…
Sickening twist after man shot dead Navy sailor girlfriend and her homeless lover amid love triangle
A jealousy-stricken man accused of gunning down his Navy sailor girlfriend and her homeless lover in San Diego has also been accused of sexually abusing children.
Prosecutors charged Ryan Wesley Proffitt, 33, with the sexual abuse of two different children just days after he was charged with the double murder.
Proffitt has now been slapped with 16 charges related to the two children, including sexual intercourse and oral copulation with a child aged 10 or younger and forcible lewd acts upon a child under the age of 14.
The abuse allegedly took place between 2020 and 2025. San Diego prosecutors said the crime is not related to the murders and the cases are being treated as separate.
One of the charges also includes felony child abuse, which means Profitt allegedly caused great bodily harm to a child. Profitt has pleaded not guilty to the child abuse charges.
The new development comes weeks after he allegedly murdered his Navy sailor girlfriend Courtney Chandler, 28, and her homeless lover Nicholas McClure, 27.
Chandler had moved the man into the couple’s house as part of an open relationship agreement. But Profitt grew jealous and gunned down the pair in a “lovers’ quarrel,” he told 911 operators.
McClure had been living in the couple’s home for about a week and a half before the alleged killings.
Prosecutors say Profitt planned the murders, loading a firearm and concealing it as he confronted Chandler and McClure about their relationship.
The sailor appeared to be aware that her boyfriend had a gun, sending a text message to a friend about it, according to prosecutors….

Lindell, in response to the GOP, told WCCO, “It’s a lie. It’s a hit job. He wants his darling, Lisa Demuth. That’s who he wants, who they had handpicked by Alex.”
The former MyPillow CEO has also been accused of violating campaign laws by giving away pillows promoting his candidacy at a July Fourth parade.
Lindell was already the leading Republican candidate, according to a SurveyUSA/KSTP poll, when he earned an endorsement from President Trump last month.
Kendall Qualls, who earned the state party’s endorsement, and Minnesota House Speaker Lisa Demuth are also vying for the Republican nomination.
Early voting is underway for the Aug. 11 primary. Whoever wins the GOP nomination is likely to face Sen. Amy Klobuchar, the presumptive favorite for the Democratic candidacy, in the November election.
Heartbreaking details emerge after newborn baby found dead in California
Harrowing details have emerged in the mysterious case of a dead baby found in a beachside California town over the weekend.
Monterey County Sheriff’s deputies discovered the body shortly after 8:30 a.m. Saturday after a caller reported an infant had been found alongside a rural road outside Moss Landing.
Firefighters who responded to the call from the 100 block of Struve Road pronounced the infant dead at the scene.
One of the first witnesses to discover the deceased infant has come forward about what he found.
The agricultural worker, who declined to give his name, told KSBW he “saw a lot of blood, and the umbilical cord was still attached.”

Jack Smith Agrees to Testify as Grassley Expands Senate Review of Arctic Frost
Former special counsel Jack Smith has accepted an invitation to testify publicly before the Senate Judiciary Committee as Chairman Chuck Grassley intensifies his investigation into Operation Arctic Frost and its collection of records involving Republican lawmakers and organizations.
Grassley, R-Iowa, announced Monday that he had asked Smith to appear Sept. 22, arguing that Congress and the public are entitled to a full accounting of the investigation and the methods used by Smith’s team.
“Im inviting Jack Smith 2 testify before Senate Judic Cmte on Sept 22,” Grassley wrote on X. “American ppl deserve nothing less than full transparency+ accountability for Arctic Frost and special counsel lawfare.”
Smith accepted the invitation subject to approval from the Justice Department, according to Politico.
His attorneys, Lanny Breuer and Peter Koski, said Smith conducted his work in accordance with department rules and applicable law.
Smith “steadfastly followed Justice Department policies, observed applicable legal requirements, and took actions based on the facts and the law” during his tenure as special counsel, the attorneys wrote.
They said Smith welcomes the opportunity to testify publicly and “correct the many mischaracterizations” surrounding his investigations.
Operation Arctic Frost examined efforts to challenge and overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.
Grassley and other Republicans have accused the investigation of improperly targeting Trump allies, members of Congress and conservative organizations….
Michigan voters to decide major primary contests tonight
Governor
On the Democratic side of the state’s gubernatorial election, Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson is preparing to face off against Genesee County Sheriff Chris Swanson.
The establishment has rallied around Benson, with polling showing her garnering upward of 72% of Democratic voters’ support.
Benson has been campaigning to rally support from many key groups in Michigan, including union workers, Black communities, and the Muslim community in and around Dearborn.
She has served as secretary of state since her election in 2018. Before that, she worked as an attorney and as dean of Wayne State University Law School.
In her role as Michigan’s chief elections official, Benson has been vocal in her opposition to the Trump administration.
The Republican primary race is also likely guaranteed for U.S. Rep. John James who is leading the polls with 45%, as compiled by 270toWin.
He is facing off against businessman Perry Johnson, who has received about 27% in polling.
James was first elected to the U.S. House in 2022, after two unsuccessful campaigns for U.S. Senate in 2018 and 2020, and for governor in 2022.
A veteran and businessman, James is running on a “Freedom Agenda.”
His platform prioritizes ethics reform and transparency, ending fraud and waste, and passing a parents’ bill of rights. He has received the endorsement of President Donald Trump.
Both former state Attorney General Mike Cox and state Sen. Aric Nesbitt will both appear on the primary ballots for Republican voters in the state, despite suspending their campaigns.

State case begins against man who killed Minnesota lawmaker
Vance Boelter appeared in state court to face state charges for last year’s attacks on Minnesota lawmakers that killed Minnesota House Speaker Emerita Melissa Hortman and her husband.
This comes just 11 days after Boelter was sentenced to life in prison on federal charges.
Boelter appeared Monday morning at Hennepin County Public Safety Center in his first appearance. He did not enter a plea.
“While Mr. Boelter’s case has been in federal court, we have been preparing to prosecute him in state court,” said Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty. “That time has arrived and Mr. Boelter will soon face accountability in a Hennepin County courtroom.”
On July 23, Boelter was sentenced in federal court to two consecutive life terms. He also received an additional 40 years.
That came just one month after Boelter changed his plea to guilty in connection with the June 2025 attacks.
He also pleaded guilty to shooting state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife, Yvette, as well as the attempted shooting of their daughter, Hope Hoffman, in a targeted attack in which he posed as a police officer.
Boelter has admitted to the crimes in federal court and pleaded guilty to two stalking charges, two murders through use of a firearm and two federal firearm-shooting offenses.
Under the June agreement though, federal prosecutors took the possibility of the death penalty off the table….
California scrubs political conflicts of interest from its donation portal
California’s ethics agency oversees an unlimited, blank-check system of payments solicited by elected officials — including the $347 million Gov. Gavin Newsom has steered through California politics.
An investigation by The Center Square has found the state’s “transparency” portal shows the money, but it omits the conflicts of interest.
Voters using the database have no way to search whether donors had business before the government at the time of their donations, even though that information is collected by the California Fair Political Practices Commission (FPPC).
The omission matters because California caps campaign checks. It does not cap “behested payments.”
State law allows elected officials to solicit unlimited sums of money from corporations, unions, tribes, foundations and other special interest groups — so long as the money goes to a third party instead of a campaign account.
That means a donor who would otherwise be limited to $39,200 per election for a governor’s campaign can give millions more to a nonprofit, public project, or outside cause if the money is solicited by that same official and reported as a behested payment.
“It’s another way of trying to influence government,” explained Richard Briffault, a Columbia University law professor and campaign finance expert. “It’s another deposit in the favor bank. That doesn’t necessarily mean there will be a quid pro quo… Occasionally, there might be a real connection. Then that can be criminal. But usually? If they’re buying anything, they’re buying goodwill. They’re buying a favorable disposition.”
The FPPC’s database only reveals behested payments involving state officials. Cities and counties are tasked with managing their own behested-payment data….

Chipotle a focus in investigation of salmonella outbreak in Minnesota
Health officials in Minnesota are investigating an outbreak of salmonella that’s being linked to jalapeños served at Mexican fast-food restaurants, and Chipotle is a focus of the investigation.
The Minnesota Department of Health said it has identified 110 salmonella javiana cases in the state.
The department interviewed 84 people who had come down with the symptoms, and 89% reported eating at Chipotle from mid-June to last month, the Wall Street Journal reported.
Carlota Medus, senior epidemiologist supervisor in the department’s foodborne diseases unit, told the Journal that those who didn’t eat at Chipotle had eaten at other Mexican-style restaurants.
She said Chipotle is cooperating with the investigation, providing records and removing jalapeños suspected of being contaminated from its restaurants.
The state said it has no ongoing concerns with Chipotle, but contaminated food could have been served elsewhere.

A high-ranking Westchester County police official drove the getaway car for her son in an apparent gangland shooting in The Bronx, police and sources said Tuesday.
Jennifer Lackard, a deputy police commissioner with the Mount Vernon Police Department, was arrested at her home Tuesday morning, along with her son, Chase Lackard, 20, after the young man allegedly shot at a group of rivals near the Bronx Criminal Court on June 29 at 11:57 p.m, police said.
He then rushed into her car before she drove off, according to sources.
The pair were hit with attempted murder, attempted assault, criminal possession of a firearm, conspiracy and reckless endangerment charges.

An evangelist and social media influencer claims she was subject to “spiritual warfare” having been kicked off a plane for a short preach to her fellow passengers, made during a delay to take-off.
Whitney Lynn was removed from an Alaska Airlines flight, travelling from Orlando International to San Diego on Thursday, being told she made the crew feel unsafe.
In a video posted to Instagram, Lynn stands up to get the attention of those around her: “I know we’re all waiting. It’s kind of frustrating, right?”
“But I want to tell you that God’s timing is perfect and God knows everything. And maybe he’s sparing us from danger today. So I want you to rest and know that Jesus Christ loves you so much that he died on the cross for your sins.”
Lynn went on to share a gospel message, finishing by saying “I pray protection over this flight in the name of Jesus.”
In another video, a member of airline staff tells Lynn to take her baggage out of the overhead lockers and then escorts her off the plane. He tells her that the crew don’t “feel safe” with her as a passenger.
She responds: “Oh my gosh. I didn’t know the message of Jesus Christ was unsafe. Wow, do I have any guns or anything like that? No, I don’t. So freedom of speech is not safe? If I said something else, would that be okay?”
“I’ll tell you what this is, it’s called spiritual warfare. Do you know why? Demons don’t like the name of Jesus … It’s the last days, you can’t talk about Jesus any more.”
In a statement, Alaska Airlines said: “our flight crew became increasingly concerned about a guest’s behavior on board the aircraft, which was also affecting other guests.
