UAW Prepares Strike As Contract Talks Hit Deadline

The United Auto Workers outlined plans for a series of strikes at individual auto plants in what would be its first-ever simultaneous strike against the Detroit “Big Three” automakers if agreements are not reached by Thursday.

United Auto Workers President Shawn Fain said Wednesday that company offers aren’t enough. In an online address to union members, Fain said General Motors, Ford and Stellantis have raised their initial wage offers, but have rejected some of the union’s other demands.

“We do not yet have offers on the table that reflect the sacrifices and contributions our members have made to these companies,” he said. “To win, we’re likely going to have to take action. We are preparing to strike these companies in a way they’ve never seen before.”

Suicide rates at all-time high

Some of this could be the result of an increasingly vitriolic cultural environment.

After all, it is hard to be hopeful when everyone is yelling at everyone else.

Students in particular are victims of the ubiquity of smartphones and their amoral algorithms.

And, although the economy has, over the same period, seen incredible expansion overall, places like the Rust Belt now mirror the frustrations of inner cities as industries disappear along with opportunities for meaningful labor.

Judge severs Trump’s Georgia election interference case, and 16 others, from trial starting in October

The judge overseeing the Georgia election interference case has severed the case, ordering that 17 defendants — including Donald Trump — will not be tried alongside speedy trial defendants Kenneth Chesebro and Sidney Powell on Oct. 23.

In a blow to prosecutors, Judge Scott McAfee said severing the remaining 17 defendants was “a procedural and logistical inevitability,” and did not rule out the possibility that “additional divisions” may be required later.

The judge, however, said that any defendant who does not waive their right to speedy trial before Oct. 23 will “immediately” join the trial. Trump has already waived his speedy trial rights.

SPINE-CHILLING: THESE are the stats banks DON’T want you to know about, according to RFK Jr.

It’s no secret that the housing market in the U.S. is a giant disaster. Interest rates have skyrocketed, prices have quadrupled, and these mysterious entities seem to swoop in with cash offers and buy up many of the available homes on the market.

“Not only are we, you know, suffering inflation from the constant wars,” but “also you have these three giant companies – BlackRock, State Street, and Vanguard,” who “ already own everything, and now they’ve decided they’re going to buy every single-family home in America.”

“They’re on track now to control, to own … 60% of the single-family homes in America within six years,” he explains.

It’s no wonder young people feel so discouraged these days. This is a death sentence to many people’s dreams of owning a home.

“Think about this for a second,” says Dave Rubin. “They’re telling us and have been telling us for years: ‘You will owe nothing and be happy.”’

The situation on the Italian island of Lampedusa is coming to a head, with the local government declaring a state of emergency after more than 6,000 illegal migrants were registered on the small Italian Mediterranean island on Tuesday.

Besides an influx of hundreds of boats sailing toward Italy’s harbors, scenes of violence were recorded, with migrants trying to break through police lines.

“Apocalypse on Lampedusa. Italian police are trying to keep illegal African migrants in check. Meanwhile, 160 boats have arrived with 8,000 illegals: just young, strong men who are migrating into our social systems,” wrote former Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician Georg Pazderski on X.

Putin ‘gratefully’ accepts Kim invite to visit North Korea -Kremlin

The invite was made during a summit in eastern Russia at which they discussed military matters, the war in Ukraine and helping North Korea’s satellite programme.

Calling each other “comrades”, the two leaders toasted their friendship on Wednesday with Russian wine after the 70-year-old Putin showed Kim, 39, around Russia’s most modern space launch facility and they held talks alongside their defence ministers.

“At the end of the reception, Kim Jong Un courteously invited Putin to visit the DPRK at a convenient time,” KCNA said, referring to the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, North Korea’s formal name.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Putin “gratefully” accepted the invite and that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov would travel to Pyongyang in October. Since Russia’s 2022 invasion of Ukraine, Putin has rarely travelled abroad.

UN investigates reports of 13 mass graves in Sudan’s Darfur region

The mass graves are believed to contain civilians from the ethnic Masalit tribe who were killed in attacks by the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and allied Arab militias, according to Sudan Volker Perthes.

Perthes, who announced he was stepping down as the UN Special Representative for Sudan, added that the human rights violations were being documented and “if verified, may constitute war crimes.”

Ethnic related killings have intensified since fighting broke out mid-April between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF.

Wisconsin Republicans vote to fire elections director, who may not leave the job

(Mark Hoffman/Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel via AP)

The vote creates a dispute over who is in charge of overseeing elections in a state that is expected to play a critical role in next year’s presidential campaign and that may have to redraw its legislative districts within months.

The Republicans’ own lawyers, as well as the state’s Democratic attorney general, told the senators before the vote that they didn’t have the authority to remove Meagan Wolfe, the director of the state’s bipartisan elections commission. Wolfe has won praise from voting administrators across the country as well as local officials in Wisconsin.

The vote — 22 to 11in favor of firing Wolfe — gives conservative critics a chance to question the legality of every action she takes if she remains in the job, and both sides expect her fate to be decided by the courts. Experts said the uncertainty could create trouble in the meantime.
