California Teachers’ Association Pushes for Free Yoga, Homeless Access to Parking Lots

The FTA acknowledged the move to open high school parking lots to allow homeless families to park their cars would require “paid security,” which would cost around $500,000.
Additionally, the FTA noted that free yoga and meditation programs would cost around $1 million, which includes reimbursing members up to $1,000 a year if they actively do a yoga class or other fitness classes for 100 days.
The district reportedly has 55% or more of its students who are homeless, in foster care, living in poverty or are not native-English speakers, according to EdSource.
Despite Stiff Laws, Violent Gun Crimes Rise in Calif.

Department of Justice data showed that violent crime and property crime in California were up slightly year over year in 2022, the Times said. The homicide rate, though down 5% from 2021, was up nearly 24% from 2017.
The Public Policy Institute of California showed that San Joaquin and Alameda counties had the highest rates of gun violence among major counties, with Orange, San Diego, and San Mateo counties had the lowest.
Nearly 40% of violent crimes in San Joaquin and Alameda counties involved firearms in 2022. The rate was 14% in Orange and San Diego counties.
Los Angeles County had a rate of 27% violent crimes involving firearms.
Reports: N.J. to Review Handling of Menendez’s Fatal Wreck

The scrutiny by the AG’s public integrity unit is focusing on how police and local prosecutors handled the accident at the time.
Officials from the state AG’s office seized records from Bergen County law enforcement agencies on Thursday, according to the Times.
Richard Koop of Bogota, New Jersey, was killed when Arslanian slammed her black Mercedes-Benz sedan into him as he crossed the street in front of his residence on Dec. 12, 2018.

Shooting inside Connecticut police station leads to arrest of woman accused of firing at officers

“The rounds did not penetrate the bullet-resistant glass but prompted officers to respond and make contact with the suspect,” the department added. “As officers attempted to negotiate, the subject discharged additional rounds toward responding officers prompting one officer to return fire, however, the rounds were again stopped by bullet-resistant glass.”

Man savagely kills, torches woman he mistakenly thought was his ex-girlfriend: prosecutors

Richard Montano, 48, was convicted by a jury of first-degree murder on Thursday for the horrific slaying of Silvia “Kelly” Vaca Abacay, 40, on August 10, 2022.
He “quite literally went for the jugular,” prosecutors said during the trial as they alluded to Abacay’s autopsy that detailed 10 stab wounds and blunt-force trauma injuries on her face, head and neck, before Montano set the apartment on fire.
The 911 call was played during the trial. “Listen to the pain and anguish in Silvia’s voice as she is screaming for her life,” prosecutors said during the trial, according to NBC Washington.
“The screaming and banging continued for 15 minutes that Silvia Abacay endured a violent attack that left Apartment 101 in carnage.”
Senator Calls for DOJ Action Against Philips for Keeping CPAP Machine Complaints Secret

“Philips brazenly turned a blind eye to its dangerous defective machines all in the name of profit,” Sen. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., said in a statement about the device maker, which has long dominated the market for ventilators and sleep apnea machines.
The call for enforcement from the Department of Justice comes just days after an investigation by ProPublica and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette revealed the company kept secret more than 3,700 complaints about the faulty devices over the course of 11 years before launching a massive recall in 2021.
At the time, Philips acknowledged that an industrial foam placed inside the devices to reduce noise could break down in heat and humidity and release material into the air paths of the machines.
By then, the company’s two factories in Pittsburgh had turned out millions of the tainted devices, which were delivered to infants, the elderly, COVID-19 patients and at least 700,000 veterans.
Biden vs. Biden: Feds sue employers over vax mandates, settle suits against their own mandates

The Equal Opportunity Employment Commission sued United Healthcare Services and Hank’s Furniture last month for allegedly refusing to honor requests for religious accommodations from their COVID mandates, a rare step for the agency and its first litigation on the subject, according to Bloomberg Law.
The lawsuits are silent on the role that Biden’s September 2021 executive order, which required vaccinations for large employers, may have played in the alleged violations. An agency spokesperson, citing ongoing litigation, declined to comment on whether EEOC was cleaning up a mess the president made.
The timing is embarrassing for the Defense Department, which committed the same alleged violations against thousands of service members who sought religious accommodations from DOD’s mandate.

Farage exposes new method used by traffickers to get migrants onto UK shores

On his GB News show, Farage, Nigel analysed the latest footage to emerge from the ongoing migrant crisis, and claimed that “people traffickers” are now using new ways to prevent the dinghys being damaged before they cross the channel.
The footage shows a large group of migrants wading through the water and climbing onto the vessel, with a few people then returning to the beach once the dinghy leaves.
Nigel explained: “The dinghy, the massive dinghy that’ll take between 70 and 80 people is already at sea.
It hasn’t launched from that beach. It’s come out of one of the rivers and come round effectively. It’s what’s now called a taxi boat.
“And you can see the people that are getting onto that boat have to wade out into the water virtually up to their chests in water before they’re taken into the boat. You can see there’s someone falling out of the boat, another person falling out of the boat.
“What this means is these are very heavily laden. Now there were three people coming back off that boat. I think they’re the traffickers that loaded the people onto it.”
‘Is this how we treat people trying to save the planet?’ Woke fury as Just Stop Oil protestors ‘practically run over’ by irritated UK drivers

The group have become a public nuisance in recent years with demonstrations aimed to cause as much disruption as possible.
Donning mostly orange attire along with a now infamous vest, the group often stop traffic and sports events in their bid to encourage as much publicity as possible, whether good or bad.
One particular instance has prompted a backlash, with a social media user questioning a “lack of respect”.
Others aren’t as receptive to the point of view, with one user commenting: “I think they should ‘just stop’ blocking traffic!”
Another added: “Being in the road won’t save the planet but is a safety hazard”.
EU Summit To Look At Changes Needed To Welcome Ukraine, Others As New Members

A day after pledging Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy their unwavering support, EU leaders on October 6 will face one of their worst political headaches on a key commitment — how and when to welcome debt-laden and battered Ukraine into the bloc.
The bloc has said since Russia’s invasion that at the end of the war it would work steadfastly on “lasting unity” that would eventually translate into Ukraine’s EU membership.
The leaders will assess “enlargement” at their informal summit in southern Spain’s Granada. Beyond Ukraine, several Western Balkan countries and Moldova are also knocking with increasing impatience at the door.
Explosion At Rail Line Used By Russian Soldiers Near Minsk, Belarusian Opposition Group Says

An opposition group called the Community of Railway Workers of Belarus said on October 6 that an explosion damaged a segment of a rail link close to the Azyaryshcha station — a main hub for Russian military personnel, ammunition, and equipment.
It remains unclear what caused the blast. Belarusian authorities have yet to confirm the group’s statement.
The authoritarian ruler of Belarus, Alyaksandr Lukashenka, has allowed Moscow to use Belarusian territory as a staging area for its invasion of Ukraine.
Minsk also agreed to station Russian tactical nuclear weapons in the country.
Ukraine updates: Russian strike on Kharkiv kills 10-year-old

Ukraine’s interior minister said Russian forces pummeled Kharkiv in eastern Ukraine in an early Friday attack, killing a 10-year-old boy and injuring several others.
The blast left a deep crater in a city street, just meters away from an apartment building, images from the aftermath of the Russian strike showed.
The attack comes a day after a cafe and a grocery store were hit in the Ukrainian village of Hroza, also in the Kharviv region, killing at least 51 civilians.
Meanwhile, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier is visiting the US capital, Washington, where a meeting with President Joe Biden is expected to focus heavily on Ukraine and the fate of the US aid.
Here are the main headlines about Russia’s war in Ukraine on Friday, October 6:

Iranian Security forces arrest, threaten mother of teen girl in coma over dress code clash: report

“Shahin Ahmadi, her mother, who was forcibly disappeared by government forces near Fajr Hospital on the evening of October 4th, has been released with the condition not to disclose any information to the media or anyone concerning her daughter’s condition,” Shekhi claimed, noting that “violence was employed” during the mother’s arrest.
The Iranian government has appeared to take a heavier hand with Geravand’s case, including the arrest of her mother to warn her against speaking to the public and media about her daughter’s health.
“The entire Garavand family is still under immense pressure from government authorities,” Shekhi said. “Alarmingly, officials even visited Armita’s art school to intimidate her classmates and friends, urging them not to share any information or photographs of Armita.”

Knife attacks at German train stations have more than doubled since 2019

The figures were provided by the federal government following a request by Martin Hess, an MP for the right-wing Alternative for Germany (AfD) party.
In the latest data available, 788 knife-related crimes had been reported so far this year — an increase of almost 40 percent over last year, and double the last comparable pre-lockdown year of 2019.
Of the 788 offenses recorded this year, the federal police arrested 589 suspects of which 209 were foreign nationals.
This means that 35 percent of suspects in knife-related crimes at German train stations are foreign, despite foreign nationals comprising 16 percent of the total population.
UK on course for biggest tax rise in 50 years after personal thresholds frozen, analysis suggests

The government’s policy is to keep income tax and national insurance thresholds frozen until 2028, meaning many will be pushed into higher tax bands as a result of inflation.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies said the freeze will also compound challenges facing many workers whose earnings are not keeping up with inflation.

Democrat Congresswoman Demanding More Ukraine Aid Is A ‘Strategic Advisor’ To Lobbying Group Representing Defense Industry, Ukrainian Government, & Hunter Biden-Linked Burisma.

Rep. Kaptur and the U.S.-Ukraine Business Council (USUBC) also have ties to Burisma, a controversial Ukrainian energy firm that paid President Joe Biden’s son Hunter received over $83,000 a month from to serve on its board. On the same day that Biden family business associate Devon Archer met with Rep. Kaptur’s office on behalf of his client Burisma in 2016, the USUBC held a joint event with Burisma focused on “Ukraine’s Energy Security Future.”
Burisma was also previously a member of the USUBC.
The USUBC, which describes itself as a “strong international voice for business in Ukraine now promoting U.S.-Ukraine business relations,” represents over 200 companies including leading defense firms such as Boeing, Raytheon, and Lockheed Martin.
Many of these members, therefore, are direct beneficiaries of the multi-billion-dollar aid packages authorized by the White House for Ukraine.
Rep. Kaptur was one of 12 House lawmakers to press the White House to send Ukraine additional military aid, specifically F-16s. During recent debate over the potential passage of a Continuing Resolution, Rep. Kaptur also strongly advocated for including funds for Ukraine.
In addition to being the co-founder and co-chair of the Congressional Ukraine Caucus, Rep. Kaptur is also the Ranking Member on the influential House Appropriations Subcommittee and serves on the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Defense.
Biden nominates former Hunter Biden work colleague to lead office that protects whistleblowers

The nominee is Hampton Dellinger, a lawyer who was a partner at Boies Schiller Flexner from May 2013 to November 2022.
While at the firm, he worked with the Crisis Management and Government Response team while Hunter Biden served as counsel at the firm.
In this same period, Biden became a board member of the Ukrainian gas company Burisma and he was instrumental in retaining BSF on behalf of the company.
As the head of the Office of Special Counsel, Dellinger will be in charge of an agency whose mission is to “to safeguard the merit system by protecting federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices, especially reprisal for whistleblowing.”
Trump Lawyers Seek to Halt Civil Fraud Trial

Trump’s lawyers asked the state’s intermediate appellate court to suspend the trial in New York Attorney General Letitia James’ lawsuit and prevent Judge Arthur Engoron from enforcing his ruling of last week, which revokes the Republican frontrunner’s business licenses and puts a court-appointed receiver in charge of his companies.
Engoron “clearly does not comprehend the scope of the chaos (his) decision has wrought,” Trump lawyers Clifford Robert, Michael Farina and Michael Madaio wrote in a 41-page appellate brief filed as the non-jury trial entered its fifth day of testimony.
Taking Trump’s companies “will unquestionably inflict severe and irreparable harm,” not only on Trump and other defendants, but employees and others “who depend on the affected entities for their livelihoods,” Trump’s lawyers argued.
Trump Wins Delay in Classified Docs Case

Cannon ordered a stay in the Trump team’s Classified Information Procedures Act (CIPA) deadline while she mulls whether to push back the pre-trial schedule.
Cannon’s decision came a day after the Trump team petitioned the judge to postpone his classified documents trial until after next year’s presidential election. The trial is currently scheduled for May 20 in Florida. The 2024 general election is Nov. 5.
Further, Trump’s attorneys referenced delays in gaining access to all of the classified evidence from special counsel Jack Smith’s office, something prosecutors have acknowledged.
Donald Trump Endorses Jim Jordan for House Speaker

News that Trump would endorse Jordan broke on Thursday as Rep. Troy Nehls (R-TX) announced it earlier on X.
“Just had a great conversation with President Trump about the Speaker’s race. He is endorsing Jim Jordan, and I believe Congress should listen to the leader of our party. I fully support Jim Jordan for Speaker of the House,” Nehls said.
Several members of Congress have already endorsed his bid, including Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) and Rep. Harriet Hageman (R-WY).
“Jim Jordan is the definition of a solid conservative and a truly effective leader, and I am proud to publicly express my strong support for him to become the next Speaker of the House. He is a friend and true ally of our America First agenda. Jim was one of the first members of Congress to provide counsel and guidance to our campaign to take back Wyoming’s lone congressional seat. He didn’t blink, he didn’t flinch, and he was in from the get-go,” Hageman said in a written statement to Breitbart News
Republicans Slam Hillary Clinton’s Wish for ‘Formal Deprogramming’ of Trump Supporters

“There needs to be a formal deprogramming of the cult members,” Hillary Clinton told CNN Thursday. “So many of those extremists, those MAGA extremists, take their marching orders from Donald Trump, who has no credibility left by any measure.”
Hillary Clinton, who denied losing the 2016 election, also said Trump will likely be the 2024 Republican nominee, which will necessitate defeating “those who are the election deniers, as we did in 2020.”
“CAMP?” conservative X account AMUSE questioned. “The FBI is already targeting Trump supporters ahead of the election, imagine if we lose in 2024? The hypothetical reeducation camps may become very real. Designating Trump supporters as a terror group allows for mass gun confiscation.”
As Hillary’s comment spread on the internet, conservatives continued to rip the two-time failed presidential candidate:
