Census Data: California Population Drops Again; Below 39 Million

Urban areas such downtown Los Angeles are still feeling the losses of residents due in part to high housing costs and more remote work.
 (Genaro Molina/Los Angeles Times)

California’s population losses through domestic migration were partially offset by international immigration and in-state births.

However, the Los Angeles Times noted that the population drop was the third straight for the Golden State:

Prior to the fiscal year from July 1, 2020, to July 1, 2021, California had never seen even one year of population decline since 1900, according to U.S. Census Bureau data.

The numbers suggest California’s latest exodus is slowing as the pandemic eases, but it still remains a concern.

Only New York, Louisiana, Hawaii, Illinois and West Virginia lost a larger share of their population over the year.

Funders beware! Pro-Hamas Legal Aid union spews antisemitism loud and proud

Legal Aid union approves pro-Hamas, antisemitic resolution calling for boycott of ‘apartheid’ Jewish State, critics say© Provided by New York Post

It also opposes all US aid and backs the boycott, divestment and sanctions movement, a hotbed of Jew-hatred.

The resolution did not condemn Hamas for its terrorist atrocities of Oct. 7, referring to them only as a “violent tragedy.”

Indeed, such deliberately obfuscatory language signals clear approval of Hamas butchery, cloaked in smirking equivocation.

As a lance corporal at MCAS Iwakuni, Arnett refused at least three times to board aircraft bound for the U.S. and faced discharge for refusing the vaccine.

She was charged separately with insubordination, missing a military flight, disobeying an officer and other offenses over her refusal to leave Japan.

Polish Government Takes Over State Broadcaster TVP Info, Takes Several Channels off Air

The new Donald Tusk-led Polish government has been accused of engaging in “a barbaric attack on freedom of speech and journalistic independence” after seizing control of the state broadcaster TVP Info, taking several of its channels off the air, and taking further punitive actions against other state broadcasters.

In addition to taking over TVP Info and restricting some of its channels, Poland’s new ruling coalition also fired the heads of TVP Info, the public broadcaster Polskie Radio, and the state-run news agency Polish Press Agency.

Poland’s former ruling party, the Law and Justice (PiS) party, responded to the takeover of TVP Info by staging a sit-in protest at the state broadcaster’s headquarters.

NAIROBI — A U.S. drone strike has killed a senior Somali militant accused of masterminding a 2020 attack on a military base in Kenya that killed three Americans, a top Somali official told The Washington Post on Friday.

Moalim Ayman, who led a unit in the militant al-Shabab group responsible for terrorist attacks in Kenya and Somalia, was killed by a drone in the group’s stronghold of Jilib in southern Somalia on Dec. 17, Information Minister Daud Aweis said.

Jaysh Ayman, as his unit was known, emerged in 2014 as al-Shabab’s main unit in Kenya, and has attacked churches, police stations, hotels and coastal communities.

China issues stark warning to US in major show of force as territorial tensions skyrocket

(Image: GETTY )

China says it mobilised its military to track an American warship that crossed into China’s hotly contested Spratly Islands nearly 700 miles away from the Chinese coast, CNN reported on Friday.

The People’s Liberation Army said in a statement: “The US deliberately disrupted the situation in the South China Sea.”

But the US Navy has argued that the ship was conducting “routine operations in international waters…consistent with international law.”

This is not the first time China has lashed out at the US Navy’s operations in the region.

Supreme Court Will Not Immediately Hear Presidential Immunity Case Despite Jack Smith’s Plea for Speed

AP Photo/Alex Brandon

The high court on Friday declined Smith’s request for a quick review, meaning that the case will go through the normal process in the appeals court and likely make its way to the SCOTUS from there.

This is a significant victory for Trump and a major setback for Smith, who is racing against the clock to put Trump on trial in front of a heavily Democrat jury before the election.

MTG Rips Career Politician Matt Rosendale of Montana: ‘He Cannot Be Trusted’

Chip Somodevilla/Getty

“It’s nauseating watching politicians like Rosendale only run to Pres Trump for pictures and beg for endorsement when they want to get elected, but when Pres Trump ask for support they literally throw up their hands and turn their back,” the pro-Trump Georgia conservative wrote, sharing a picture of Rosendale refusing to talk to Trump on the phone. “Can not be trusted.”

Greene also shared a CNN report detailing Rosendale’s recent endorsement of Trump, which came months after Tim Sheehy’s, a Republican who hopes to oust Sen. Jon Tester (D-MT):

Fmr AG Meese: Special Counsel Smith’s Appointment ‘Unconstitutional’

Meese and professors Steven Calabresi and Gary Lawson state that lower federal courts should dismiss all of Smith’s prosecutions, including all of his pending charges against former President Donald Trump.

“That appointment was unlawful, as are all the legal actions that have flowed from it, including citizen Smith’s current attempt to obtain a ruling from this Court,” the brief said.

The brief claims Smith lacks authority to represent the U.S. in prosecuting Trump because such actions “can be taken only by persons properly appointed as federal officers to properly created federal offices.”

“Neither Smith nor the position of Special Counsel under which he purportedly acts meets those criteria,” the brief stated. “And that is a serious problem for the American rule of law — whatever one may think of the defendant or the conduct at issue in the underlying prosecution.”

Maine Judge: Christie Doesn’t Qualify for Primary Ballot

A Maine Superior Court judge sided with a state decision that former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie fell short of the necessary number of certified signatures to be included on the March 5 primary ballot.

Maine Director of Elections Heidi Peckham said this month that the Christie 2024 presidential campaign had only submitted 844 of a required 2,000 certified signatures required to be on the state’s primary ballot, CBS News reported.

Trump, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, businessman Vivek Ramaswamy, and pastor Ryan Binkley have qualified for the Maine GOP ballot.
