Russiagate Czar Joe DiGenova Is The Best And Last Chance For Accountability

Joe diGenova has been appointed counselor to the attorney general, effectively as a Russiagate czar.

Joe diGenova has been appointed counselor to the attorney general, effectively as a Russiagate czar. The reaction has been entirely predictable and follows a familiar pattern.

The legacy media is already raining down a steady stream of hostile stories, dismissing diGenova as an aging partisan chasing President Donald Trump’s so-called conspiracy theories.

And it is true that diGenova, an 81-year-old veteran of the Reagan era, where he served as U.S. attorney for the District of Columbia, is not the most conventional pick for the role. But that misses the more important point.

For the first time in nearly a decade, there is actually a Russiagate czar. That alone changes the dynamic entirely. Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche deserves credit for finally doing what his predecessors would not or could not do.

Since the start of Russiagate ten years ago, every supposed effort at accountability has been either half-hearted, stop-start, or a last-minute scramble.

In some cases, it has amounted to outright cover-up, with former Attorney General Bill Barr, himself a CIA alumnus, insisting that the CIA “stayed in its lane.”

The current investigation diGenova is set to oversee, a conspiracy investigation in the Southern District of Florida focused on former CIA Director John Brennan, suggests the opposite: that the CIA did not, in fact, stay in its lane.

The removal earlier this month of the attorney who had been running that investigation, Maria Medetis Long, followed by diGenova’s appointment, underscores a broader pattern of stop-start handling. Once again, an effort has been disrupted midstream, leaving diGenova to pick up the pieces.

But while this pattern has been frustrating, the positive development is that there is now finally someone in charge of the effort who does not require on-the-job training, and whose wife, Victoria Toensing, was herself targeted by an FBI raid in connection with the couple’s friendship with Rudy Giuliani.

Previous efforts — whether under John Huber, who was tasked with investigating the illegal surveillance of the Trump campaign, John Durham, who was appointed to investigate the origins of the Russia collusion hoax, or Medetis Long, who later ran the Southern District effort — have either obstructed the process or, at best, done the minimum required to produce a narrow, alibi-style report before moving on.

By contrast, this time there is someone in charge who has been in the trenches from the beginning.

DiGenova knows the story and has followed the details, the players, and the evolution of the scandal from day one.

As far back as 2018, he was dismissed as a conspiracy theorist for saying, “Make no mistake about it: A group of FBI and DOJ people were trying to frame Donald Trump of a falsely created crime.”

That claim was widely ridiculed at the time, but it has since been fully vindicated by subsequent developments……

Trump extends Jones Act waiver, citing national security

Trump extended the Jones Act waiver 90 days, letting foreign tankers move U.S. crude and fuels through mid-August as Iran war disruptions persist.

The Trump administration has suspended for an additional 90 days a law forbidding foreign-owned and crewed ships from transporting goods between U.S. ports in an effort to contain price increases and to advance national security aims.

“President Trump issued a 90-day extension to the Jones Act waiver,” Taylor Rogers of the White House said Thursday in a social media post.

On March 18, the president announced a 60-day suspension of the Jones Act, a 1920 law requiring that cargo moving between U.S. ports be carried on U.S.-built, -owned, and -crewed vessels.

Foreign-flagged vessels are often cheaper to charter than American-registered ships.

“New data compiled since the initial waiver was issued revealed that significantly more supply was able to reach U.S. ports faster,” Rogers said.

Extending the waiver provides certainty and stability for the U.S. and global economies, Rogers wrote.

“The Trump administration has taken several actions to mitigate short-term disruptions to the energy markets, and this extension will help ensure vital energy products, industrial materials, and agricultural necessities are maintained,” Rogers said.

The waiver covers 659 product categories that include coal, jet fuel, propane, butane, urea and Anhydrous Ammonia.

The 90-day extension takes effect on May 18 and covers the period through Aug. 15.

According to a published report based on data provided by the White House, the initial waiver allowed approximately 40 tankers to deliver oil between U.S. ports, effectively boosting the available domestic fleet by 70%.

The White House cites deliveries between ports in California, Texas, Florida and Alaska. The vessels moved over 9 million barrels of American oil and fuel since the initial March waiver, according to the White House.

In the past, Jones Act waivers typically covered a period of 7-14 days and were issued only after events such as hurricanes, storms or other supply disruptions.

Energy producers, agricultural groups and lawmakers from Hawaii, Alaska and other coastal states requested the extension, seeking to minimize price spikes and to mitigate supply chain risks.

American Farm Bureau Federation President Zippy Duvall said when the waiver was issued in March it would help relieve pressure on supplies of fuel and fertilizer during the critical spring planting season…..

Body of one missing USF student found as suspect charged

Florida authorities say one of two missing University of South Florida students has been found dead, as investigators continue searching for the other and question a roommate now in custody.

Officials identified the remains discovered as 27‑year‑old Zamil Limon, whose autopsy is pending, while the whereabouts and condition of Nahida Bristy, also 27, remain unknown.

Deputies arrested Hisham Abugharbieh, Limon’s roommate, following a domestic violence call and a brief standoff, charging him with multiple offenses as the sheriff’s office continues to investigate a motive.

The remains of Limon were discovered on the Howard Frankland Bridge and identified Friday, Hillsborough County officials said.

Limon and Bristy, both from Bangladesh, were last seen on April 16 and were later classified as endangered after losing contact with family and friends.

Deputies responding to a domestic violence call Friday morning identified the home of a suspect, Hisham Abugharbieh, 26, and safely removed family members before the suspect barricaded himself inside.

Authorities said Bristy did not live at the property and Abugharbieh is not a USF student.

A SWAT team was called in, and Abugharbieh later surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody.

He faces charges including domestic violence battery, false imprisonment, tampering with evidence, failure to report a death and improper removal of a human body….

Two buses crashed head-on near a Pentagon bus stop on Friday, injuring 23 people, including Defense Department personnel.

The Omni Ride and Fairfax Connector transit buses struck each other shortly before 7:30 a.m., according to a press release from the Pentagon Force Protection Agency.

Emergency personnel transported 18 of the injured to local hospitals for further medical evaluation. Five were treated at the scene.

Ten of the 23 injured passengers are from the Defense Department.

The Metro Access Road was closed pending an accident investigation.

The accident altered mass transit operations for several hours. Camera footage from the scene showed the two buses colliding.

The Arlington Fire Department confirmed that the crash occurred and that it responded, but it referred questions to the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, the federal law enforcement agency at the Pentagon.

It was unclear what caused the crash.

Schumer rushes to defend the SPLC after it was EXPOSED for apparently funding racist extremism

Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), Ku Klux Klan.

Despite this alleged betrayal of donors and fellow travelers alike, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) and Democrat operatives have rallied to the hate racket’s defense.

Schumer said Wednesday on the floor of the U.S. Senate that the “deeply disturbing charges” brought against the SPLC “should send a chill down the spine of every American who cares about free expression and the rule of law in the Justice Department. It should send a chill down the spine of every American who cares about civil liberties and the fight against violent extremism.”

Contrary to Schumer’s suggestion, Americans keen on fighting violent extremism might be delighted to learn that the Justice Department has targeted an alleged financial crutch holding up violent bigots across the country.

The indictment against the SPLC alleges that between 2014 and 2023, the organization — which raked in over $106.47 million in contributions in fiscal year 2024 alone — “secretly funneled more than $3 million in SPLC funds to [field sources] who were associated with various violent extremist groups.”

“Let’s be clear what this case is … really about,” said Schumer. “It has nothing to do with alleged wire fraud or with the Southern Poverty Law Center somehow working in coordination with the KKK. That’s ridiculous on its face. It doesn’t pass the laugh test.”

Schumer claimed that the case against the SPLC is ultimately about President Donald Trump turning the DOJ into the “Department of Vengeance — his own attack dog.”

The deeply unpopular Democrat suggested further that this case demonstrates that the administration is targeting opponents of “white supremacy” and “turning what America is all about inside out.”

Schumer was hardly the only Democrat associate to dismiss the possibility that the SPLC was keeping the illusion of formidable hatred alive in order to continue bilking deep-pocketed donors…..

Staggering amount Eric Swalwell paid lawyer to fight sex assault claims

Eric Swalwell paid a hotshot Los Angeles lawyer $40,000 in campaign funds to defend him on television against sexual assault allegations that ultimately unraveled his political career, according to a recent financial disclosure.

Swalwell took money from his since-dropped campaign for California governor to pay the princely sum for attorney Sara Azari, who says she specializes in “allegations of sexual misconduct in a post-#MeToo landscape.”

Azari gave a full-throated defense of the disgraced ex-congressman during an interview with NewsNation, saying “regret is not rape” in claiming Swalwell’s alleged victims were just ashamed by any sexual activity they engaged in with him.

“The fact that, you know, a day later, years later, or whatnot, you maybe had shame around what you did, or maybe you were in a relationship and shouldn’t have done what you did, doesn’t make it rape,” she told the network, to which she also contributes.

“I think it demonstrates a tremendous amount of accountability, not because he’s done these things and he’s stepping down, but because how could he properly defend himself and represent his constituency with these serious allegations pending,” Azari added.

The California Post contacted the attorney for comment.

The allegations from several women — including an LA model who said Swalwell drugged, raped and choked her at a West Hollywood hotel — tanked his career political career and left him with few allies.

He is facing criminal investigations in LA and New York, as well as a Justice Department inquiry into alleged sexual misconduct. He has denied all of the allegations against him, only acknowledging “mistakes in judgment I’ve made in the past.”

His congressional seat remains vacant. Gov. Gavin Newsom set a special election to fill the seat in August this year.

Swalwell has hidden from the public eye since the allegations began.

His wife and family were recently spotted — without him — at Mexico Los Cabos International Airport after enjoying a week-long luxury escape at a resort dubbed ”a billionaire’s playground.”
