EXCLUSVIE: Los Angeles County Throws In Towel, Agrees To Stop Dragging Feet On Concealed Carry Permits
The Department of Justice (DOJ) announced Thursday that Los Angeles County agreed to issue concealed carry permits in accordance with a landmark Supreme Court decision.
The DOJ’s Civil Rights Division sued the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department (LASD) and Sheriff Robert Luna in September 2025, in the United States District Court for the Central District of California, alleging the department displayed a “pattern or practice” of infringing Second Amendment rights through unreasonable delays in processing concealed carry weapon (CCW) permit applications.
Assistant Attorney General for Civil Rights Harmeet Dhillon praised the department for addressing the issues and complying with the Supreme Court’s June 2022 ruling in New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen in a Thursday release announcing the settlement.
“The Justice Department supports our law enforcement partners,” Dhillon said. “The sheriff acknowledged the problem and devoted substantial additional resources, including new processing software and additional personnel, to cutting waiting times dramatically. We applaud their efforts and are happy to be able to bring this litigation to a successful conclusion!”
In the court’s official opinion on the Bruen case, Associate Justice Clarence Thomas warned that even “shall issue” jurisdictions (which California became after the decision) could face legal action.
“[B]ecause any permitting scheme can be put toward abusive ends, we do not rule out constitutional challenges to shall-issue regimes where, for example, lengthy wait times in processing license applications or exorbitant fees deny ordinary citizens their right to public carry,” Thomas said in a footnote of the opinion.
At the time of the suit, applicants were waiting an average of nine months for approval of permits, when compared to a statutory deadline of 120 days.
Pro-Second Amendment organizations and individual plaintiffs filed a similar suit in December 2023, accusing California jurisdictions of charging excessive fees and being dilatory in processing applications for carry permits.
The Second Amendment Foundation, which backed the suit filed in December 2023, announced a settlement with California on August 6.
The Justice Department is also challenging California’s ban on Glock pistols in court, filing suit in July and seeking an injunction blocking the law, AB 1127, on July 29.
Nancy Mace introduces bill to restore death penalty in DC for ‘most heinous crimes’
The death penalty may fully return to Washington, D.C., if a bill introduced by Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) on Thursday becomes law.
The legislation intends to bring back capital punishment to the federal district for the “most heinous crimes,” according to Mace’s office.
The death penalty would apply to first-degree murder, terrorism, murder of a law enforcement officer or public safety employee, first-degree child sexual abuse, and the distribution of deadly drugs resulting in the death of a minor, among other crimes.
In 1980, the D.C. Council voted to abolish the death penalty in the city. The repeal has remained in effect since 1981, though there was a chance the move could have been overturned by voters over a decade later.
Sailors stuck aboard USS Abraham Lincoln for nine months attempt to jump from ship as their deployment is extended indefinitely
Multiple US Navy sailors have reportedly tried to jump overboard from the USS Abraham Lincoln as their deployment in the Middle East is extended indefinitely.
Roughly 5,000 sailors and Marines remain onboard the aircraft carrier almost nine months on from when their deployment first began on November 21.
They had been scheduled to return home in May, but authorities extended the deployment indefinitely amid the war with Iran.
The lengthy deployment has now left a number of the sailors burnt out, with some now opting to jump from the ship as a way out according to their distraught loved ones.
Among those was Annabelle Loma’s husband, who she said was repeatedly overextended before he tried to jump.
He is now left on a medical hold, and Loma said she has not heard from anyone in the Navy about his condition for weeks.
‘He’s scared,’ Loma told the Military Times. ‘He thinks he’ll get a dishonorable discharge and just because he was burnt out, his 13-year career is ruined, just like that.
‘That’s not fair. That’s not what he should be worried about.’
In a separate incident, a sailor on watch saw a shipmate preparing to go overboard and intervened, Maria Rodriguez, the sailor’s wife, told the outlet.
She described how her husband called out to the sailor before reaching down and grabbing the sailor’s arms, pulling him back onto deck.
The sailor had not yet gone overboard when her husband rushed to his aid, Rodriguez said, noting that three other sailors heard the commotion and came running to help.
‘He said he hadn’t felt adrenaline like that in his life and he was just so thankful he was able to get to [the sailor] in time, to stop them from going overboard,’ she noted.
Rodriguez said she does not know what happened to the sailor in the aftermath.
Sailors have also described an incident in which watch standers stopped a crew member from going overboard a few months ago amid a struggle with exhaustion and declining morale, according to Stars and Stripes.
More than 200 concerned family members met with acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao in an emotional town hall last Thursday to share their fears.
At one point during the meeting, a spouse tearfully told officials she received a message that same day from her husband saying ‘he hopes he doesn’t wake up tomorrow,’ Stars and Stripes reports.
Family members of the sailors aboard the USS Abraham Lincoln also expressed concerns over food levels on board after images emerged appearing to show their meagre provisions.
One parent with a child on the Lincoln received a photo from mid-April that showed a tray with boiled carrots, a few scoops of ground beef and a gray slice of dry-looking meat.
Karen Erskine-Valentine, a West Virginia pastor who spoke to a parent of a child on the Lincoln, said the food is ‘tasteless’ and that the sailors are ‘hungry all the time.’
USA Today also reported that care packages that families have been sending to troops have not been making it to the Middle East because of an indefinite suspension of mail deliveries to military ZIP codes.
Naval officials dismissed the claims that food was running low as false with Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth branding it ‘fake news.’
There have also been concerns about mildew in the showers and a lack of clean water that officials said have been resolved.
Still, Congressional Democrats demanded answers Wednesday about the conditions onboard the aircraft carrier….

Fighting Islam in America begins with understanding it, Hamilton says
Ignoring the warnings of a self-described survivor of Sharia law, the McKinney City Council in Texas recently voted unanimously to allow the local Islamic association’s mosque expansion.
In June, 30,000 Muslims took over the streets of Houston, Texas, and held an Ashura procession, a day of mourning for a Muslim martyr killed in the seventh century.
Men beat their chests in a physical expression of solidarity.
Abraham Hamilton III says it was a show of power and control.
“It’s happened all around the country,” he said on his radio program. “We just had a rally in Chicago; you have the influence of Ilhan Omar and then the Somalian Muslims in Minnesota, New Jersey. We have Hamtramck, Michigan, the first majority Muslim city in the United States of America.”
Hamtramck, where Muslims constitute a local majority and control elected government, demonstrates Muslim influence at the municipal level.
Minnesota has a large, concentrated Muslim population with significant grassroots and electoral influence, particularly through its Somali community.
New Jersey has a large and geographically diverse Muslim population that has developed considerable representation in local and state politics.
Muslim population estimates vary because the U.S. Census does not collect religious affiliation, but according to Pew Research Center estimates, the U.S. Muslim population continues to grow.
The legal and political concept of Dar al-Islam, which translates literally to the “House of Islam” or “Abode of Islam,” refers to regions of the world where Muslims are the dominant population, where Islamic law (Sharia) prevails, and where Muslims can freely practice their religion and feel secure.
In other words, once a territory is conquered by Islam, it is Muslim forever.
Hamilton said they are using America’s own democratic institutions to make that happen.
In Massachusetts, for example, the state legislature is considering a bill (Senate bill S.2134) to create a commission to advocate for and advance Muslims in governmental office.
The 11-member commission would include people appointed by the governor and other state officials who are required to have a demonstrated commitment to the Muslim-American community.
Supporters say the commission would help the state better understand the Muslim community and address issues such as Islamophobia, similar to existing commissions focused on other communities.
Critics, including Republican gubernatorial candidate Brian Shortsleeve, argue that the bill could give Muslims special treatment in state government hiring and raise constitutional concerns.
“It’s here, folks, and we have to tangle with this,” Hamilton stated.
Fighting back, he said, must begin with understanding that Islam is not a religion; it is a political movement that is incompatible with American democracy.
“We require compliance with our laws,” Hamilton noted. “We cannot have a competing legal system. The reality is that strict adherence to Islam is not merely a religion, it is a political supremacist ideology.”
Wholesale price inflation slows last month as gas, food costs fall
The Labor Department’s producer price index — which captures inflation before it reaches consumers — rose 4.7% in July from a year ago, down from a much larger 5.5% increase in June.
On a monthly basis, wholesale prices were unchanged from June to July, after they ticked down 0.1% the previous month.
The figures follow the government’s consumer price inflation report, released Wednesday, which also showed a modest cooling last month.
Excluding the volatile food and energy categories, core wholesale inflation dropped to 4.2% in July compared with a year earlier, down from 4.7% in June.
On a monthly basis, core prices 0.2%, down from 0.4% from May to June.
After falling in early July, gas prices then rose later that month and in early August, threatening to push inflation back up when August figures are reported next month.
Still, last month’s cooling gives Federal Reserve officials more leeway to avoid a rate hike when it meets next in September.
Fed officials are debating whether they should raise their key interest rate to combat inflation, or keep it unchanged in hopes that inflation continues to cool on its own….
19 Nations Conduct Exercise to Protect Panama Canal
PANAMAX 2026 reached its midpoint with 19 nations conducting combined security and stability operations focused on safeguarding the Panama Canal, U.S. Southern Command reported Aug. 13.
The annual SOUTHCOM-led exercise simulates defense of the canal against asymmetric threats including terrorist attacks and external aggression, according to the command.
The 2026 edition is notable for coinciding with heightened U.S. attention to the canal under the Trump administration.
Secretary of War Pete Hegseth was present in Panama simultaneously for the Americas Counter Cartel Coalition event, providing Cabinet-level visibility for U.S. regional engagement.
The Panama Canal is one of the world’s most critical maritime chokepoints, handling roughly 6% of global maritime trade.
Approximately 14,000 vessels transit the canal annually, including cargo ships carrying goods to and from U.S. ports on both coasts.
For American consumers and businesses, the canal’s security directly affects the cost and reliability of goods moving between the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
Disruption of canal operations would force shipping through longer alternative routes, increasing transit times and costs.
The specific nations participating in PANAMAX 2026 beyond the aggregate count of 19 were not identified in the SOUTHCOM release.

Noncitizen Voting Cases Contradict Democrats’ Claims They Don’t Happen
Sen. Bernie Sanders claimed on the Senate floor that noncitizen voting is a myth, just months before New Jersey officials admitted about 400 noncitizens had voted in state elections.
“The good news is that noncitizens do not vote in American elections,” the Vermont independent who caucuses with Democrats asserted in a March 19 floor speech.
The problem is not exclusive to New Jersey, which announced last week that a glitch caused 6,600 noncitizens to be registered to vote.
Numerous state audits and criminal convictions contradict what some politicians have said on noncitizen voting being nonexistent.
In the House, Rep. Mary Gay Scanlon, D-Pa., was equally adamant last year after voting against the SAVE Act, asserting, “Let me be perfectly clear: This is a non-issue. Noncitizens do not vote in U.S. elections.”
However, a 2017 Pennsylvania Department of State analysis identified 1,160 people who apparently self-reported that they were noncitizens and voluntarily canceled their voter registrations.
Of those, 248 had voted at least once, casting a total of 642 ballots, according to testimony provided to the Pennsylvania House State Government Committee.
Most of those votes occurred between 2000 and 2017.
More recently, a 2025 Ohio audit found 167 noncitizens had voted between 2018 and 2024, while other state audits found numbers in the double digits.
“The truth is, are noncitizens voting in the tens of thousands? Absolutely not,” J. Christian Adams, president of the Public Interest Legal Foundation, told the Daily Signal. “But it is happening.”
Over the last decade, 40 aliens were convicted of ineligible voting across multiple states, including heavily populated Florida, Texas, and California, as well as the battleground states of North Carolina and Wisconsin, according to The Heritage Foundation’s Election Fraud Database….

A manufacturing boom is unfolding across America right now, and especially so in the geographic center of the country.
This developing boom represents an epochal shift because investments in factories and tangible production involve the stickiest kind of capital expenditures.
The commitment to production involves a macro “bet” on a yearslong cycle, not a near-term wager on the latest fad or concerns about the price of gasoline next week.
As such, this mostly hidden story deserves to be studied and amplified, both for the economic benefits and also for the possible political windfall for candidates on the populist right.
But before considering the import of this shift, it’s important to look at the numbers, the verifiable on-the-ground data sets that prove this new reality.
The most-watched gauge of productive activity, the ISM Manufacturing Index, just surged to a fresh four-year high.
Specifically, that ISM reading stands at 55 now, well above the 50 mark, which signals expansion. It has been rising for seven months.
In addition, manufacturing employment is rising, similarly marking a new four-year record high. These jobs are high-paying, family-sustaining roles that make our whole society stronger, not part-time “hustles” or gig economy transitions.
Construction jobs related directly to factories and trade are soaring under President Donald Trump at 10 times the pace he inherited from former President Joe Biden.
In the first quarter of 2025, when Trump took office, the U.S. only added 9,300 such construction jobs.
So far in the third quarter of 2026, America has added 93,000 such construction positions and counting. Amazing progress!…

Ukrainian defector killed by Russian woman with hidden trash bin bomb — on Kyiv’s orders
A former Ukrainian submarine commander who defected to Russia was killed on Thursday when a Russian woman acting on Kyiv’s behalf blew him up with a bomb hidden inside a trash bin, officials said.
The 32-year-old Russian woman, who was not immediately identified, allegedly received orders from Ukraine’s intelligence network to kill Robert Shageev, an officer in the Kremlin’s Black Sea Fleet, according to Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB).
Shageev, a Ukrainian deserter who joined the Russian army after the 2014 annexation of Crimea, was walking in Sevastopol at around 10 a.m. when a trash bin beside him exploded, according to Kyiv and Moscow outlets.
The blast was apparently so loud that residents mistook it for a drone strike, similar to the ones plaguing Russian forces in the area, Russian Telegram channels linked to security services reported.
The suspected bomber was quickly apprehended, with Russian officials claiming she confessed to the killing.
“Investigators established that she acted on instructions from Ukrainian special services and showed no remorse,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Kremlin-installed governor of Sevastopol, said in a statement.
Shageev was wanted by Ukraine for high treason over his actions as the acting commander of the Ukrainian vessel Zaporizhzhia, Kyiv’s only submarine during the 2014 Russian invasion of Crimea…
Treasury IDs nearly $5B in bank transactions linked to suspected human smuggling, with 62% dip after Trump’s election
The Treasury Department has pinpointed nearly $5 billion in bank or other transactions linked to suspected human smuggling between 2023 and 2025 — a staggering figure that the Trump administration is vowing to reduce, The Post can reveal.
The Treasury’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN) found $4.9 billion in suspicious exchanges by combing through Bank Secrecy Act data between Jan. 1, 2023, and Dec. 31, 2025, according to a forthcoming Financial Trend Analysis report.
Much of that amount included “excessive cash activity conducted along the southwest border of the United States,” as well as transfers along other “common migration routes” and that had “unverifiable relationships between originators and beneficiaries.”
“The transactions involved multiple discrepancies, including inconsistent payment amounts, unexplained refunds, and contracts that did not align with actual money movements,” the report noted.
Some of the flagged payments totaled more than $3 million for charter flights believed to be linked to human smuggling between the Middle East and Central America.
“The filer connected one of the involved companies to human smuggling incidents, including a chartered flight carrying Indian nationals from Egypt to Jamaica through the UAE, and finally on to Nicaragua,” where the migrants were able to attempt to enter the US by land.
In total, FinCEN analysts examined 67,540 BSA reports, with a peak of 29,266 suspicious transactions recorded in 2024….
Judge OKs Voter ID Prop 39 ballot language ‘manipulated’ by Dem foe, Bonta
A Sacramento County judge has rejected a petition from backers of a voter identification measure that argues the attorney general’s ballot summary and title are “false, misleading and inconsistent” with the state Election Code.
Superior Court Judge Jennifer K. Rockwell denied a petition by Californians for Voter ID, Yes on 39 that called for a rewrite of Attorney General Rob Bonta’s ballot title and summary.
In an Aug. 6 decision, Rockwell rejected the petitioners’ contention that Bonta had failed in his legal obligation to provide a true, impartial description of the purpose of Proposition 39, which will go before voters on Nov. 3.
“Because the certified ballot title, summary and label for Proposition 39 accurately describe the effect of the measure and reflect a reasonable exercise of the attorney general’s discretion in preparing these items under Elections Code 9051, the petition will be denied,” she said.
The plaintiffs took issue with multiple parts of Bonta’s ballot language.
They called his proposed title – “Prohibits citizens from voting unless they present government-issued identification” – misleading because they “fail to give a true and impartial statement of the measure’s purpose.”
The title is not accurate because Proposition 39 would not bar the casting of a ballot, according to the petitioners.
Instead, it would prohibit the counting of ballots that don’t comply with the measure’s requirement of a government-issued ID, they said. But Rockwell disagreed.
“This provision on its face requires a voter to ‘present a government-issued identification’ when casting a ballot,” she said. “A citizen who failed to present such identification would indeed be prohibited from both casting a ballot and having their ballot counted.”
The process of voting encompasses more than simply submitting a ballot, according to Rockwell. Courts have long held that “voting” includes the counting of a person’s vote, she said.
The lawsuit also alleged that Bonta’s description omitted or obscured one of the key provisions of the measure:
the requirement that election officials do their due diligence to ensure that voter rolls are accurate and contain the names of U.S. citizens only.
The petitioners express disappointment at the court’s findings.
“The attorney general’s revision of the ballot title, an 11th-hour change made long after the measure qualified for the ballot, remains a politically motivated attempt to sway the election outcome and manipulate public opinion,” Yes on 39 said in a statement. “Now, by allowing additional politically motivated changes to the ballot materials, the court has further enabled efforts to distort the substance of Proposition 39 and deprive voters of the full and accurate context they deserve.”
But despite the legal defeat, Yes on 39 remained optimistic that the measure would pass in November.
“Proposition 39 is a common-sense, bipartisan measure to secure our elections and restore confidence in the democratic process,” the statement continued. “We are confident Californians will see through these efforts and judge Proposition 39 on its merits and not on biased ballot language.”..
‘Statistical Illiteracy’ Rick Scott Demands AG James to Explain How NY’s Fraud Got Away
Special Senate Committee on Aging Chairman Rick Scott sent a letter to New York Attorney General Letitia James demanding answers on alleged rampant Medicare fraud in her state.
The Florida Republican’s letter noted that the number of indictments and convictions for Medicare fraud has declined under the New York Medicaid Fraud Control Unit since James assumed her role.
For instance, from 2023 through 2025, New York secured only 53 Medicaid fraud convictions, while the next-lowest state with a similar population secured 129 convictions, Scott’s letter said.
In four of the past five years, New York recorded fewer than 10 criminal fraud indictments, ranking last among comparable states every year from 2021 through 2025.
In his letter, Scott added that the unit’s performance “fell off a cliff” in 2020, as fraud convictions decreased from 56 in 2019 to only 14 in 2020, and patient abuse and neglect convictions collapsed from 30 to just four over that same period.
“These figures are difficult to reconcile with the size and complexity of New York’s Medicaid program. A state serving millions of beneficiaries that generates so few prosecutable cases raises serious questions about the priorities and effectiveness of your office’s enforcement efforts,” Scott wrote, adding that the “timing of this collapse is hard to ignore.”
The Office of Inspector General at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services decided to decertify the state’s fraud control unit and suspend future grant funding.
First Assistant U.S. Attorney John A. Sarcone III stated in a July 2 release announcing the decertification that “based on its own reported statistics,” the fraud control unit “has failed to address public benefits crime in any meaningful way,” and had “averaged more than 100 indictments per year” before James’ time in office.

A federal appeals court just delivered a major setback to Planned Parenthood Federation of America, dismissing the abortion giant’s attempt to escape liability in a long-running Medicaid fraud case that could ultimately force it to repay nearly $2 billion in taxpayer funds.
On Wednesday, the full (en banc) U.S. Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit dismissed Planned Parenthood’s interlocutory appeal for lack of jurisdiction.
The ruling returns the high-stakes False Claims Act lawsuit to the federal district court in the Northern District of Texas, where Trump-appointed Judge Matthew Kacsmaryk previously rejected Planned Parenthood’s bid for immunity.
The case, United States ex rel. Alex Doe v. Planned Parenthood Federation of America, stems from the explosive 2015 undercover videos produced by the Center for Medical Progress.
Those videos captured Planned Parenthood officials discussing the harvesting and potential sale of aborted baby body parts.
