Child gunmen, 12, 13 and 16, charged over slaying of California man in front of his helpless dad
Three teenagers were arrested for allegedly gunning down a 53-year-old man in front of his father in California.
Eric Lancaster was shot dead by the trio, aged just 12, 13 and 16, outside his home in East Bakersfield on July 18. His father, Vernon “Wes” Lancaster survived with a gunshot wound.
“When my son fell, I reached over as hard as I could to hold his hand and tell him to stay with us, stay with us, and it was too late. It was too late already,” Vernon “Wes” Lancaster told the ABC News.
The victim’s father said he didn’t see the teenager who took a shot at him but he saw the one who shot his son. “And it’s the most ugliest thing that won’t — it won’t go away in my mind,” he added.
The Kern County Sheriff’s Office said that the 16-year-old suspect was arrested shortly after the shooting in the surrounding neighborhood and detained in different case before being charged for killing Lancaster.
“One victim succumbed to his injuries at the scene and the other was transported to the hospital for treatment.
“Homicide detectives responded to the scene to assume the investigation,” the Kern County Sheriff’s Office said in a social media statement.
Authorities involved in the case revealed that the other two teenagers –– aged 12 and 13 –– were arrested on July 29 and August 2 after an intensive investigation.
All three juvenile suspects face heavy-duty charges, including murder, attempted murder, conspiracy, and criminal street gang enhancement.
Trial Begins for Man Accused Of Orchestrating Tupac’s Murder
The murder trial of Duane “Keffe D” Davis has opened in Las Vegas, nearly three decades after the death of rap icon Tupac Shakur.
Davis is accused of organizing the 1996 attack, including providing the gun used in the shooting, although prosecutors are not alleging that he was the gunman.
(According to the case presented by authorities, Shakur was shot multiple times near the Las Vegas Strip after an earlier confrontation at the MGM Grand involving Davis’s nephew.)
The shooting was carried out from a white Cadillac, and investigators believe other individuals linked to the attack are now deceased.
The report said the trial will focus primarily on Davis’s alleged role as the planner and weapons provider.
His own public comments and a 2019 memoir brought renewed attention to the long-running investigation.
Davis was arrested in 2023, becoming the first person formally charged in connection with Shakur’s killing.

The company cited Richland Parish, Louisiana, where tax revenue from data center development helped fund teacher bonuses.

Indiana recount flips state Senate primary to pro-Trump insurgent
Arecount of Indiana’s 23rd Senate district primary has flipped the race in favor of a Trump-backed Republican who sought to oust an incumbent lawmaker who opposed redistricting.
State Sen. Spencer Deery, R, emerged narrowly ahead on primary night, but the recount has seen the race flip to Paula Copenhaver, local outlet WRTV reported.
President Donald Trump backed primary challengers to eight Indiana senators who refused his push to redistrict the state, resulting in six of them losing their seats on primary night. Copenhaver’s eventual win puts the figure at seven ousted.
Deery led by three votes before the recount, which found Copenhaver ahead by the same amount.
Trump has pushed Republican-led states to redistrict in time for the midterms.
The overall wave of redraws has seen the GOP net several seats in the House in time for November.

Trump Says Iran Must Pay Compensation for Those It Has Killed and Wounded
President Donald Trump said on Monday he will demand that Iran pay compensation for “all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded,” in response to Iran seeking compensation for the damages it has incurred from U.S. and Israeli attacks.
Trump’s social media post came after Iran said over the weekend it was nearing a deal with Oman defining new shipping lanes between them through the Strait of Hormuz but repeated that the United States must meet conditions, including compensation and an end to sanctions and military threats, before the strategic waterway is reopened.
“It is an interesting idea because now I am likewise demanding compensation from Iran, for all of the people that they have killed and gravely wounded with their roadside bombs and many conflicts,” he wrote on Truth Social.
Trump also referenced and claimed compensation from Iran for the October 2000 deadly bombing of the U.S. Navy guided-missile destroyer USS Cole at a Yemeni port.
The FBI has attributed that bombing, which killed 17 sailors and wounded more than three dozen others, to al-Qaeda.
Trump added that Tehran should also pay compensation to the families of the thousands of people killed during anti-government protests in January, Iran’s worst domestic unrest since the era of its 1979 Islamic Revolution.
Rights groups say the Iranian government has continued to crack down on opponents during the war.
Colombia earthquake: Over 100 dead, people trapped in collapsed buildings, officials say
Over 100 people are dead after a 7.4-magnitude earthquake rocked western Colombia on Monday, officials said.
The country’s new president, Abelardo de la Espriella, has declared a national disaster, with destruction reported in multiple cities.
The earthquake’s epicenter was 5 kilometers east of San José del Palmar, Colombia, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
At least 111 people are dead, and 87 have been injured, according to Colombia’s president.
Some of the hardest-hit regions include the cities of Pereira and Cali. Dozens of people have been reported dead in their respective departments.
At least 61 buildings have collapsed and over 1,600 homes have been damaged or destroyed, the president said. Dozens of health centers, community centers and roads have also been damaged, he said.
In Cali, at least 20 buildings collapsed and people were trapped, according to the mayor. A rescue effort was ongoing in a building where at least 15 people were trapped, according to officials….

Judge slaps down California MAGA county’s bid to crush mail-in ballots and bring in strict election rules
A judge has temporarily blocked a sweeping election overhaul in conservative Shasta County that sought to sharply restrict mail-in voting, require hand-counted ballots, and impose identification rules on voters.
The preliminary injunction, issued Friday, puts the brakes on Measure B just months before the November election.
The measure was approved by Shasta County voters but is now at the center of a legal fight over whether a county can rewrite election rules that are governed by California law.
The ruling came after California Attorney General Rob Bonta and Secretary of State Shirley Weber sued to invalidate the measure, arguing that it conflicts with state election requirements.
Measure B would have moved Shasta County toward largely one-day, in-person elections, while requiring government-issued photo identification for voters casting ballots at polling places.
