Man slashed little boy in Walmart ‘for the rush,’ stabbed 2 others at Dollar Tree, eatery
A Colorado man is headed to prison after going on a random stabbing rampage that left three people injured, including a 7-year-old boy who was slashed on the back of the head at a Walmart.
Luke Barkhaus, 33, was sentenced this week to 40 years in prison for the January 2025 attacks, which he carried out “for the rush” and “to see what it was like” to plunge a knife into someone, according to prosecutors.
“This malevolent menace said that he stabbed those innocent victims because he wanted to see what it was like to do it,” District Attorney George Brauchler, of the 23rd Judicial District, said in a statement Monday.
“There is no fixing someone like this,” Brauchler added. “There is only protecting our community from him. This is why we build prisons.”
An arrest affidavit obtained by Law&Crime describes how Barkhaus, who pleaded guilty to felony child abuse and two counts of first-degree assault, stabbed a worker inside a Dollar Tree, the child inside the Walmart and an employee at a restaurant in three separate attacks.
“According to Parker Police, Barkhaus first stabbed a restaurant employee, and approximately an hour later attacked another random victim inside a store,” the DA’s office says in a press release. “In a third attack, Barkhaus slashed a child in the head inside a Walmart.”
Police said the child was at the Walmart with a sibling and their mother.
“They were at Walmart to buy toys,” the affidavit says. “[The mom] stated she was shopping around inside of the store for approximately 30 minutes and then proceeded toward the westside checkout.”
While near the checkout area, the mom told the kids they “could pick out candy nearby,” according to the affidavit. “Out of nowhere [the 7-year-old victim] told her, ‘This man just punched me,’ referring to an unidentified male suspect that was running away from them.”
The mom said her son “started bleeding from the side of his head” and she screamed out, “My son has just been stabbed!”
According to local ABC affiliate KMGH, prosecutors said during a January 2025 court hearing that when asked why he targeted the boy and other victims, Barkhaus said, “For the rush.”

50K ICE Arrests in July, Highest for Trump’s 2nd Term
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested nearly 50,000 people during July, the highest single monthly arrest total during the second Trump administration, according to new figures.
The spike in immigration arrests shows that the administration has continued to advance its mass deportations agenda despite a shift in approach earlier this year from high-profile operations in large American cities that sparked a public outcry to arrests that have garnered less attention but have nonetheless been disruptive.
The July arrest tally of 49,571 marks a 15% jump from 43,021 arrests a month earlier and a 70% increase from 29,241 in February, in the aftermath of the Trump administration’s enforcement surge in Minnesota, according to government data that was provided by ICE to the University of California, Berkeley’s Deportation Data Project and analyzed by The Associated Press.
Immigration arrests the month before Trump entered office hovered a little over 8,000, a figure largely made up of immigrants transferred from city or state jails and prisons and turned over to ICE to remove from the country.
During Trump’s first year in office the numbers started climbing as the administration loosened restrictions on where and who ICE could arrest while it also infused the agency with billions of dollars.
By December, the number of arrests jumped to more than 40,177, according to the data, which was obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit.
In the aftermath of two fatal shootings in Minnesota in January that sparked protests and an uproar from Democratic lawmakers, arrests began to fall to nearly 30,000 in February.
After remaining stagnant for months, the numbers of people arrested in June jumped to more than 43,000 and then to roughly 49,500 in July.
In his confirmation hearing earlier this year, Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin pledged to keep ICE out of the headlines, suggesting that the administration’s immigration crackdown might take a softer approach.
But his tenure has been marred by a number of fatal shootings of immigrants in encounters with ICE officers. And the figures show Mullin hasn’t shifted the agency from President Donald Trump’s vision for mass deportations.

Mamdani accused of misusing NYC resources to boost Dems: ethics complaint
Mayor Zohran Mamdani was slapped Tuesday with an ethics complaint from a watchdog group accusing him of misusing city resources to boost multiple Empire State Democrats, The Post has learned.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust urged the city’s Conflicts of Interest Board to launch a probe into Hizzoner’s endorsements of both Gov. Kathy Hochul’s re-election campaign and Lindsey Boylan’s failed bid for City Council.
“We write today to request you investigate Mayor Zohran Mamdani for using his official position and public resources for political activity,” reads the complaint from FACT, a Washington DC-based nonprofit.
The letter cited an advisory opinion from the board in 2009 advising Big Apple pols against using city resources to endorse candidates.
“Separating official activities from political ones is the foundation of sound ethics laws and imperative to maintain the public’s trust in government,” FACT executive director Kendra Arnold told The Post.
“The use of public resources to influence the political process gives a clear and unfair advantage to the individual or party in power,” Arnold said. “Allowing this conduct to go unchecked and unpunished is a threat to the democratic process.”
In its complaint, FACT homed in on three alleged violations by Mamdani since shortly after he ascended to Gracie Mansion in January.
First was his February endorsement of Hochul, the Democratic incumbent running for a second, full four-year term, during a press conference on universal childcare.
The socialist mayor had penned an op-ed giving the moderate gov his official stamp of approval. But during a press conference shortly after, he said of Hochul, “I’m proud to endorse her.”
The group also noted Mamdani’s endorsement of Boylan — the first woman to publicly accuse Cuomo of harassment — during an April press conference…
HUD rescinds Biden-era statement on special credit programs in housing
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development on Tuesday announced the rescission of a Biden-era inter-agency statement encouraging the development of special purpose credit programs (SPCPs) that it said would “favor one class of American over another.”
The rescission came in a joint statement with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Department of Justice (DOJ), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC), and the Federal Housing Finance Agency (FHFA).
“No regulation or interagency statement fixated on the Biden administration’s DEI commitments can defeat the Fair Housing Act’s categorical prohibition against discriminating on the basis of race and color in any residential real estate-related transaction,” HUD Assistant Secretary for Fair Housing and Equal Opportunity Craig Trainor said. “Credit decisions must be made on economically relevant criteria and never on race or other protected characteristics. Under Secretary Turner’s leadership, HUD will never again be in the sordid business of divvying up Americans by race.”
The joint statement from Tuesday asserted that the old Biden-era regulation had enabled lending programs based on race and sex, which HUD found did not meet the Supreme Court’s standards for allowing race-based programs.
Houston Murder Suspect Out on Bond Charged in Multimillion-Dollar Mail Fraud Scheme
A federal grand jury has indicted five people, including three current or former U.S. Postal Service mail carriers, in connection with a scheme prosecutors say involved the theft and resale of nearly $24 million in checks stolen from the mail.
The man identified as the operation’s leader, Tryston Tremaine Vaughn, 28, is also currently free on bond in a separate Fort Bend County murder case.
According to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Texas, the indictment accuses Vaughn of recruiting USPS mail carriers to pull checks out of the mail along their delivery routes.
Vaughn and others allegedly bought the stolen checks from those carriers and resold them to buyers through a Telegram channel called “SlipsandChips,” then shipped the checks out using FedEx.
Prosecutors say the scheme ran from 2022 through the time of the indictment and involved roughly $24 million in stolen checks.
Court records show Vaughn’s murder case predates the federal charges by more than a year.
Stafford Police arrested him last March after a fatal shooting in a motel parking lot off the Southwest Freeway.
According to police, surveillance video shows Vaughn firing on a moving vehicle while looking for someone he believed had stolen a $92,000 necklace.
The shots missed their intended target and instead killed 22-year-old Kerry Thomas, whom police described as a bystander.
Thomas’ family had relocated to the Houston area from New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, according to his online obituary.
Vaughn posted a $600,000 bond last May and was released from custody, records show.
He also faces a theft of a firearm charge that the Fort Bend County District Attorney’s Office says has not been formally filed and will be handled alongside the murder case.
A spokesman for that office said the murder charge and the federal mail case “are not related” but confirmed the office has been coordinating with federal authorities so the two investigations do not interfere with each other.
Four of the five people named in the federal indictment have been taken into custody.
Along with Vaughn, they are Catherine Clauzelle Kilpatrick, a postal worker who pleaded not guilty this week and is expected to be released on an unsecured $50,000 bond;
Malcolm Tiree Joubert, also a postal worker; and Alyssa Nadine Bryant, accused of helping facilitate the sale and shipment of stolen checks through FedEx.
A fifth defendant, postal worker Drakkor Jamar Alexander, had not been arrested as of Monday evening…

ICE lodges detainer for illegal immigrant with lengthy rap sheet after alleged jealousy-fueled killing
Federal immigration officials are asking authorities in the Miami area to honor a detainer request for an illegal immigrant with a lengthy criminal history who is now charged with fatally shooting a man on the street in an alleged act of jealousy.
William Serrano Domenech, 49, is being held in a Miami-Dade County jail in connection with the Aug. 17 murder of 42-year-old Raul Aballe, the Department of Homeland Security said Tuesday.
“He has a rap sheet a mile long, with prior convictions in Florida and Michigan for drug trafficking and illegal possession of a firearm, as well as prior arrests in New Mexico and Tennessee for aggravated assault, theft, and resisting arrest,” Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin said in a statement to Fox News Digital. “This dangerous criminal should have never been in our country, and had it not been for the Biden Administration releasing him from ICE custody in 2023, Raul Aballe would still be alive.”
Domenech, a Cuban citizen, was “socializing with the witness” on the evening of the slaying when Aballe appeared and the pair began arguing, authorities said.
The dispute turned physical when Domenech started punching and slapping Aballe, authorities said.
Domenech allegedly pulled a gun out of a fanny pack and opened fire, striking Aballe in the stomach. Aballe was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Domenech allegedly fled the scene, but he was arrested the next day. He allegedly admitted to the killing and said he was jealous of Aballe’s relationship with the witness, according to authorities.
The witness reportedly told investigators that Aballe was not armed and didn’t initiate the fight.
Domenech is charged with second-degree murder and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged a detainer with Miami-Dade authorities the day after Domenech’s arrest.
His criminal history spans at least four states for a litany of offenses, DHS said.
That includes a conviction for a weapons offense and arrests on charges of vehicle theft, burglary, driving without a license, and driving with a suspended license in Florida, as well as prior arrests on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, and bribery of a witness in New Mexico.
In addition, Domenech has prior arrests for unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest, and theft in Tennessee, and convictions for possession with intent to distribute five grams or more of cocaine, possession with intent to distribute an unknown quantity of marijuana, possession of firearms in furtherance of a drug trafficking crime, possession of a firearm by an illegal alien, and felon in possession of a firearm in Michigan, authorities said.
Domenech allegedly told authorities he entered the United States through Florida in 1995. A deportation order was issued by a judge in 2002.
However, when ICE took him into custody in 2023, he was released back onto the streets by the Biden administration, DHS said.
“ICE has lodged a detainer and will work with our partners in Florida to ensure that this killer is never again allowed back onto our streets,” Mullin said.

Atlanta Beltline trail stabbing suspect charged with murder had 30 prior arrests and was on probation: police
The man charged in Sunday’s fatal stabbing near the Atlanta Beltline’s Eastside Trail had 30 prior arrests and was on active probation for an aggravated-assault case, according to the Atlanta Police Department.
Johnathan Hamby, 54, was booked Monday on charges of murder, aggravated assault, terroristic threats and acts, and possession of a firearm or knife during the commission of a felony in the death of 29-year-old Ramon Harris near a Kroger grocery store at Ponce de Leon Avenue.
Atlanta police said officers responded at about 4:01 p.m. to a report of a stabbing, found Harris with an apparent stab wound and detained a suspect at the scene.
Harris was taken to a hospital, where he died.
Authorities said that the stabbing began when Hamby was allegedly arguing with Harris and another man before threatening to stab them.
The incident happened near Atlanta’s famed Beltline, a 22-mile loop of multi-use trails and public parks around the city.
“We believe this was an attack that was carried out as a result of an argument that was verbal in nature and quickly escalated,” Atlanta Police Chief Darin Schierbaum said in a news conference Monday.

An Ohio man was arrested by the FBI after allegedly making graphic threats against a Jewish Republican congressman and calling for the death of President Donald Trump.
Alex Justin Miller, 26, is accused of sending a “true threat” to Rep. Randy Fine, R-Fla., and his family, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ).
A copy of the message separately obtained by Fox News Digital shows Miller allegedly called Fine and his family “Nazi f—-s” and said he would burn their house down, pledging he would “never stop until your head is hanging from the rooftops of the White House.” His message ended with “DEATH TO RANDY FINE AND DEATH TO DONALD TRUMP.”
Miller was charged with interstate transmission of a threat to injure by the U.S. Attorney in the Middle District of Florida and faces up to five years in prison if convicted, the DOJ said.
The incident was investigated by the FBI and the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Secret Service and Capitol Police, the DOJ said.
“It was so graphic. It says, ‘I’m gonna murder you. I’m going to cut your head off. I won’t stop,'” Fine told Fox News Digital. “I reported it immediately. I unfortunately have learned what the difference is between a nasty message and a death threat, and this clearly was a death threat.”
The full message read: “Dear fat— piece of s—stain, I cannot wait to take a trip to you lovely home and light the whole place on fire and murder you and your entire family in the middle of the night while you sleep. Jury convicts Kevin Salazar in execution-style killing of LA Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer
A California man has been convicted in the drive-by ambush of a Los Angeles deputy shot and killed at a red light just steps from the sheriff’s Palmdale station in 2023.
Jurors found Kevin Salazar, 32, guilty of the murder of Deputy Ryan Clinkunbroomer Monday after a week-long trial.
“It’s very helpful that the justice system prevail, that you have a conviction that is a benefit to the family,” Brad Gage, the Los Angeles attorney representing Clinkunbroomer’s family, told Fox News Digital. “That gives some solace. That gives some comfort.”
Around 6 p.m. on Sept. 16, 2023, Clinkunbroomer pulled up to a red light down the street from the sheriff’s station in Palmdale.
He was driving his marked car and wearing his uniform. As he waited for the light to turn green, another car pulled up alongside him – and a man inside shot him in the head.
Authorities said Salazar had followed Clinkunbroomer from the Palmdale Sheriff’s Station to the intersection less than a block away before opening fire with a .22 revolver.
He sped off, and Clinkunbroomer was pronounced dead at a hospital.
Authorities found Salazar at his family’s home in Palmdale two days later and arrested him on murder charges after a standoff, part of which was caught on video…
Remaining suspect in Tucson police cadet killing captured after five-day manhunt
Suspected Tucson cop killer Alex James Barnett, 33, has been arrested after authorities say they found him hiding out in an apartment complex nearly a week after the home invasion shooting of Tucson police recruit Carlos Ramirez, 23.
Ramirez’s fiancee, a Pima County corrections officer, was hospitalized in stable condition after the attack.
Authorities were tipped off to Barnett’s hideout near East Broadway Boulevard and South Camino Seco around 6 p.m. Monday, the Pima County Sheriff’s Department said in a statement.
County SWAT officers arrested him after a three-hour standoff, and no one else was hurt.
Another suspect, Santiago Jorge Rogers, 39, was arrested at a hotel near the Tucson International Airport Saturday morning.

A new report is warning that networks aligned with the Muslim Brotherhood have become deeply embedded in Canada, raising concerns that Islamist influence taking root north of the border could pose a broader threat to the U.S. and Western democracies.
A report from the Institute for the Study of Global Antisemitism and Policy (ISGAP) revealed ties between Muslim Brotherhood-aligned groups and Canadian democratic institutions, civil society, electoral politics and higher education, demonstrating similarities with other activist movements in the West, a phenomenon some analysts have described as the “red-green alliance.”
“Canada’s challenge is not simply the presence of individual extremist voices or isolated institutional weakness.
The report maps how interconnected ideological networks acquire legitimacy, institutional access, public funding, political influence and protection from scrutiny,” Charles Asher Small, the research institute’s executive director, told Fox News Digital.
Small warned that Canadian democracy traditionally has been rooted in openness, notions of citizenship, civil liberties and public trust but has since faced a dynamic of malign foreign influence that could promote ideological entryism, antisemitism and efforts to weaken democratic accountability.
The roughly 200-page report, titled, “Assault on Democratic Values and Principles:

California Dem Voted To Hire Known Child Sex Predator. Then History Repeated Itself.
A California Democrat running for Congress in one of the most competitive races in the country is on the school board that approved the hiring of a known child predator who went on to sexually abuse two students, according to school board records reviewed by The Daily Wire.
Randy Villegas, a Democrat on the Visalia Unified School District board, voted “aye” at an October 11, 2022, meeting to approve the hiring of Dejaun Jones as campus supervisor at Mt. Whitney High School, the records show.
What parents and families at Mt. Whitney High School did not know was that Villegas and the board had just hired someone the district fired a decade ago for predatory behavior, and that he would repeat that behavior just months into his tenure.
Jones, 40, had been terminated by Visalia Unified in 2013 from his position as girls’ track coach at the same high school after police investigated him for sending inappropriate text messages to one of his student-athletes.
Jones was also investigated by the police for sending other inappropriate messages to students at a different high school.
Now Villegas is running as the Democratic nominee in a crucial Republican-held seat that his party may need to take control of the House.
He’s taking on Republican Congressman David Valadao in what is widely seen as a toss-up race.
Villegas was previously in hot water for what many call a cover-up of the district’s sexual abuse scandals — voting to allocate nearly $14 million in payouts to five victims in closed board sessions.
That includes nearly $12 million paid to Jones’ two victims, according to the Los Angeles Times.
Villegas, who is running for Congress on a platform of transparency, denies the payouts were intended to silence the victims, saying, “I stand by my record of public service.”
Now he will have to contend with records showing that Villegas and five other trustees voted unanimously to approve the hiring even after seeing a report that included Jones’ “Classified personnel report.”
A cover memo from the district’s human resources chief noted that every new “classified” employee was a replacement for a departing employee “except for the Campus Supervisor – Mt. Whitney,” but did not mention Jones’ history or previous employment.
The memo said the hiring of Jones aligned with the district’s commitment to “creating physical and social-emotional safety in all learning environments.”…
Pregnant Kentucky Woman Undergoes Emergency C-Section After Violent Assault
Desmond Potts, 31, was arrested Thursday, Aug. 20, following an incident at a Louisville residence, according to arrest citations and court records cited by WDRB.
Investigators said Potts and the victim were involved in an argument when the altercation turned physical.
Potts allegedly slammed the woman onto a couch and attempted to punch her while she tried to shield herself.
A 9-year-old child inside the home jumped onto Potts’ back to intervene, but Potts allegedly threw the child off, police reports state.
When the woman attempted to leave the home, Potts took her car keys and phone, pulled a knife, pinned her against a wall, and threatened to kill both her and her unborn twins, according to the investigatio
The 9-year-old attempted to intervene a second time, at which point Potts allegedly pinned the child to the wall before releasing him at the woman’s request.
Police said Potts then dragged the woman into another room, slammed her to the floor, and dragged her down a flight of stairs by her legs.
The victim eventually broke free and contacted emergency services.
Hospital staff determined she suffered a ruptured placenta and a lacerated liver, requiring an immediate emergency C-section.
The current medical conditions of the woman, the twins, and the 9-year-old child have not been released.

Luis Eduardo Olla-Hernandez, a 29-year-old illegal alien from El Salvador, was arrested by the Leon County Sheriff’s Office and charged with first-degree murder.
According to police, on the evening of August 20, Olla-Hernandez lured Devin Graves to his residence, where his girlfriend was also present.
The girlfriend told police that Olla-Hernandez shot Graves with a pistol, killing him.
The next day, the girlfriend said Olla-Hernandez forced her to help move Graves’ body.
Olla-Hernandez allegedly threw trash and leaves over Graves’ body before setting it ablaze in a burn pile.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officials told the Tallahassee Democrat that Olla-Hernandez is an illegal alien who illegally crossed the southern border near Hidalgo, Texas, as a got-away and was ordered deported by a federal immigration judge in 2024.
Olla-Hernandez, ICE officials said, is also suspected of being a member of the MS-13 Gang, a violent gang from El Salvador that uses intimidation, violence, and extortion.

Teen Arrested For Attempted Murder After Stabbing Near Ruskin Convenience Store
Deputies with the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office were called to a 7-Eleven at 2371 E. Shell Point Road around 3:06 p.m. on August 24 following reports of a stabbing. Upon arrival, first responders found a teenage boy suffering from a stab wound to his arm.
Deputies provided emergency first aid and secured a tourniquet on the victim’s arm before paramedics transported him to a nearby hospital, where medical staff listed him in critical but stable condition.
According to investigators, a physical altercation broke out among a group of teenagers along the sidewalk on Shell Point Road, during which the victim was stabbed.
Detectives subsequently identified 15-year-old Stephon Roundtree as the suspect. Deputies located Roundtree a short distance from the scene and took him into custody without incident.
Authorities arrested Roundtree and formally charged him with Attempted Murder in the Second Degree with a Weapon.
“Violence of any kind has no place in our community. We will always act swiftly and decisively to hold those responsible accountable,” Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a statement. “I want to thank our deputies for their fast response and lifesaving actions on scene. Their quick thinking made the difference for this young victim.”
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office stated that the investigation remains active and ongoing.
