Defiant house of horrors mom who allegedly kept stepson locked up for decades rejects plea deals
The wicked Connecticut “House of Horrors” mom who allegedly kept her stepson locked up in a room for more than two decades rejected two plea deals Friday — opting to gamble her chances at trial.
Kimberly Sullivan, 57, refused to cop to a slew of charges in exchange for a 30-year prison sentence — with one deal allowing for her release after 20 years, and another cushier deal suspending the sentence after just 10.
The defiant stepmom would have had to plead guilty to one count of kidnapping, assault, unlawful restraint and cruelty to persons, the New Haven Register reported.
“It’s a non-starter,” Sullivan’s attorney Ioannis Kaloidis said in July.
“I don’t anticipate the case resolving with anything that involves incarceration.”
The accused evil stepmother’s case will now likely go to trial, with the judge theorizing that the “meat of the trial” will take place in January.
The judge on Friday also knocked down Sullivan’s request to remove her electronic monitoring device, arguing she has made no attempts to flee since her arrest last year.
Sullivan faces two first-degree kidnapping charges as well as first-degree assault, first-degree unlawful restraint and intentional cruelty to persons.
Each kidnapping charge alone carries a maximum of 25 years in the Constitution State.
She has been free on a $300,000 bond since she was arrested last March — after her stepson set fire to the Waterbury home she kept him bolted inside for decades in a desperate bid for freedom.
Sullivan allegedly locked the man inside at the age of 10, and only let him out of the room for a few hours at a time so he could do chores around the home
Prosecutors likened the now-33-year-old stepson’s treatment to that of Holocaust victims, describing the alarmingly emaciated man, who spent much of his life in a state of near-starvation, as, “without exaggeration, akin to a survivor of Auschwitz’s death camp.” ….
House Democrats Weigh Major Healthcare Expansion
House Democrats are considering a major expansion of federal healthcare programs and government-run insurance if they retake Congress in November, according to The Washington Post.
The discussions show Democrats are looking beyond reversing President Donald Trump’s healthcare policies, although the party has yet to reach agreement on some of the most far-reaching proposals.
Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., is among those pushing Democrats to pursue a broader expansion of federal healthcare programs.
“We want to make sure that we’re expanding and continuing to a vision on Medicare-for-all. At the very minimum, expanding Medicare to include vision, dental and hearing,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Post on Wednesday.
Democrats are discussing lowering the Medicare eligibility age from 65, adding dental, vision, and hearing coverage, and capping how much beneficiaries can pay out of pocket each year, according to people familiar with the private conversations.
Also under consideration are a government-run public option to compete with private insurers, improved long-term care benefits for older adults, and public health coverage for people up to age 26.
But Democrats have not reached a consensus on “Medicare for All” or a public option, and the proposals remain under consideration, the Post reported.
Ocasio-Cortez and Rep. Terri Sewell, D-Ala., are leading the House Democrats’ Cost of Living Healthcare Working Group, established by House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y.
Democrats are more united around reversing healthcare policies enacted under Trump.
“The first chance we get we’re going to try to reverse the horrible cuts that the Trump administration has done,” Sewell told the Post. …
Supreme Court sides with GOP in fight over TV ad rates; Jackson dissents
The Supreme Court on Friday lifted a ruling that prevented party committees from accessing cheaper advertising rates in the lead-up to November’s elections, siding with Republicans, for now, in an emergency case that drew staunch Democratic opposition.
Federal law mandates that broadcast stations offer their lowest available rate in the 60 days preceding a general election.
Everyone agrees candidates get the discount, but whether political parties and joint fundraising committees can, too, has come under question.
The court appeared to split 8-1, though the justices don’t have to disclose their votes in emergency decisions publicly.
The majority said that federal courts had no authority yet to intervene in the dispute.
Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson, the court’s junior liberal justice, publicly dissented.
In a one-paragraph opinion, she explained the lower panel likely had authority to move ahead.

Long Island Art Teacher Arrested for Stalking Student Who Accused Him of Rape When She Was His Pupil
A former Long Island art teacher accused of sexually exploiting one of his students when she was 17 has been now been arrested for allegedly stalking the same girl.
The female student, now 18, is suing the school district, alleging teacher John Kennedy, 53, groomed and then repeatedly raped her in his own classroom in 2025.
The former Bay Shore High School student called 911 when she allegedly spotted the former instructor after she left her Bay Shore home Thursday morning, the New York Post reported per Suffolk County authorities.
“Suffolk County Police today arrested a high school teacher for stalking a former student that he had sexual affairs with previously,” a spokesperson for the police department told the tabloid.
Kennedy was cuffed at his St. James home Thursday evening, the police representative said.
According to the Post:
Kennedy’s alleged attempts to stalk the girl — who is now 18 — come just barely a week after the unnamed accuser filed a scathing lawsuit against the Bay Shore school district, accusing administrators of failing to protect her from a “serial sexual predator” who routinely raped her in his own classroom, according to court papers.
The ex-educator, who many former and current students once described as their “favorite” teacher, was first exposed by the Post in October for having sex with the 17-year-old student — a senior in his art class at the time — after he was placed on administrative leave over the sordid affair.
However, because the girl was the legal age of consent under New York law at the time of the alleged sexual abuse, the police investigation was closed.
Now, her lawyer Andrew Silvershein argues in the lawsuit that because Kennedy occupied a position of power as a teacher this made the relationship exploitative and the age of consent is irrelevant. …

Trump Thanks Ex-Fixer Michael Cohen for ‘Having the Wisdom and Courage’ to Recant Testimony
In a post on Truth Social, Trump noted that Cohen’s “Act of Bravery is a Great Credit to the Justice System in” both New York City and New York state.
Trump also noted that Cohen said “everything” James and Bragg “did was WRONG and UNLAWFUL.”
“I am pleased to report that Michael Cohen, the Prosecution’s Star Witness and, in actuality, only Witness in the New York State Attorney General and Manhattan DA Witch Hunt Cases brought against me, has just fully RECANTED his testimony,” Trump said. “He was ‘pressured’ and ‘coerced’ to say things that were not true.”
“I would like to thank Michael for having the Wisdom and Courage to step forward and do the right thing!” Trump continued. “His Act of Bravery is a Great Credit to the Justice System in New York City and State. I am sure it was not easy for him!”
Trump added, “Now we are asking that any remnant of those Politically Weaponized Cases against me be immediately terminated and dismissed. Their Star Witness said everything they did was WRONG and UNLAWFUL!”

Exclusive: ICE Deports Illegal Aliens Convicted of Child Sex Crimes, Domestic Violence, Assault
“Last week, the patriots of ICE deported more illegal aliens, including pedophiles, drunk drivers, and violent assailants,” Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Markwayne Mullin said.
Among those illegal aliens deported is Miguel Baltazar-Bernal of Mexico, who was previously convicted of sexual intercourse with a minor, corporal injury on spouse, felon in possession of a firearm, possession of marijuana for sale, and illegal entry.
Baltazar-Bernal was previously deported six times from the U.S. and was issued a final deportation order in 1995 by a federal immigration judge.
Likewise, ICE deported Omer Karahodzic of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who was previously convicted of four counts of third-degree assault on a corrections employee, three counts of wanton endangerment, three counts of drunk driving, three counts of alcohol intoxication in a public place, and possession of marijuana.
Karahodzic has been arrested for kidnapping and unlawful imprisonment. A federal immigration judge ordered him deported in July 2025.
Altiman Peterkin of Jamaica was deported after having been convicted of assault and battery on a family member. Peterkin was also arrested for rape and threatening to commit murder.
He entered the U.S. in November 2014 as a legal immigrant but overstayed his visa by February 2015. A federal immigration judge ordered him deported in July of this year. …

Former OLS sheriff: Zapata County needs answers, not silence
As a state criminal investigation is underway into voter fraud and bribery allegations in Zapata County, Democrats are calling on the state legislature and Department of Justice to act.
The Office of Texas Attorney General’s Criminal Division Election Integrity Unit launched an investigation into Zapata County elected officials, their family members and staff in an alleged vote harvesting and bribery conspiracy.
In July, search warrants were executed at the residences of Zapata County Judge Joe Rathmell, and his wife, Gina Rathmell; of Sheriff Ramon Montes, and his wife, Sonia Sanchez; of the sheriff’s secretary, Norma Garcia, and her husband, Corando Barrera; of Laura Garza who worked on Montes’ and Rathmell’s campaigns; and of Justice of the Peace Olga Bruni.
Phone and bank records were seized as part of the investigation, according to recently unsealed affidavits exclusively obtained by The Center Square
The investigation was launched after former Zapata County Sheriff Raymundo Del Bosque lost his March 2024 Democratic primary race, alleging his opponent and others committed voter fraud. He sued and lost his civil case and the OAG launched its investigation last September.
Del Bosque, a Democrat and lifelong resident of Zapata County, was first elected sheriff in 2020.
In less than two years, he became a key member of an Operation Lone Star Task Force involved in border security interdiction efforts.
Joining Brooks County Sheriff Benny Martinez, Del Bosque was one of the only Democrats in the Rio Grande Valley to partner in targeted OLS operations to thwart cartel traffickers and smugglers, The Center Square exclusively reported.
Del Bosque also secured unprecedented funding through OLS grants to purchase new vehicles, upgrade facilities, modernize the jail, purchase body worn cameras, body vests, weapons and ammunition, and improve communication technology.
The state legislature also increased the salaries of deputies’ and jailers, The Center Square reported.
Now, Del Bosque is calling on the legislature to launch an independent investigation and enact additional election integrity reforms.
While he’s grateful for the OAG investigation, he said “Zapata County deserves answers, not silence.
“I have spent my life believing in the badge, the Constitution, the rule of law, and the responsibility we have to protect the people we serve,” Del Bosque told The Center Square in an exclusive interview. “That is why I cannot remain silent when sworn affidavits and investigative documents raise serious questions about the integrity of our elections and the conduct of elected officials.”
The affidavits allege fraud in two elections in Zapata County, including the March 2026 Democratic primary race for county judge.
“When multiple affidavits appear to raise allegations involving vote harvesting, bribery, abuse of official capacity, compensated voter assistance, political coordination, and the possible misuse of public authority, the people deserve to know that those allegations are being taken seriously and independently investigated,” Del Bosque said. …
A pattern of voter fraud exists in border and adjacent counties, including in Duval, Jim Hogg and Starr counties, Hidalgo County, Atascosa, Bexar and Frio counties, previously addressed by the legislature and OAG, The Center Square reported.
One previously enacted reform requires SOS audits of county election processes.
A recent SOS audit of Val Verde County identified numerous issues, including voter registrar staff not being able to “articulate any processes to validate the county voter registration list for accuracy,” voter records not being updated, among others creating an opportunity for fraud. …

Eric James, 53, principal of Brooke High School, faces felony charges after admitting he placed four recording devices in girls’ physical education locker rooms, the varsity locker room, and the dance team area. A custodian found the first device, and investigators uncovered footage of James installing them, disguised as a key fob and USB charger.
