Death toll rises to three in NYC Legionnaire’s disease outbreak
A third person has died in connection with a Legionnaires’ disease outbreak on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, according to New York City Health Commissioner Dr. Alister Martin in a statement Sunday evening.
Legionnaires’ disease is a severe type of pneumonia caused by inhaling water droplets contaminated with Legionella bacteria.
The city has reported 74 cases as of Sunday, with eight current hospitalizations.
Health officials have traced the outbreak to cooling towers at 76 buildings that tested positive for the bacteria. The cluster of cases has been reported in ZIP codes: 10128, 10028, and 10075.
Those towers have since been drained, cleaned, and disinfected. Officials have stated there have been no new symptoms reported in more than a week and believe the threat of exposure has been eliminated.
This outbreak comes as health officials monitor another disease outbreak spreading across the country.
More than 6,000 people have been affected by the Cyclospora outbreak, a parasite that can cause severe gastrointestinal illness, though no deaths have been reported.
New York City reports hundreds of Legionnaires’ disease cases each year. Last year, a separate outbreak in Harlem killed seven people and hospitalized dozens more.
The cases, which were also linked to cooling towers, prompted the city to require more frequent inspections of equipment.
The disease is not contagious and can be easily managed with antibiotics. Most people who are exposed to the bacteria do not become dangerously ill.
However, older adults, smokers, and those with pre-existing conditions are at a higher risk of severe illness.
Democratic Socialist Policy Ideas Resonate Only With A Minority Of U.S. Voters: I&I/TIPP Poll
There’s little question that the Democratic Socialists of America are more influential than any time in recent history.
Indeed, it’s perhaps the most influential arm of the Democratic Party today, wielding policy clout and winning local elections.
But are DSA policies really so popular? July’s I&I/TIPP Poll asked voters to find out.
The DSA’s recent “Workers Deserve More!” document outlined its main policy goals. For I&I/TIPP’s July Poll, taken by 1,473 Americans from June 29 through July 2, voters were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with five separate DSA proposals. The poll has a margin of error of +/-2.8 percentage points.
First, I&I/TIPP asked about DSA’s proposal for the “abolition of jails and prisons.”
Only 26% agreed either strongly (10%) or somewhat (16%) with this plan, while 62% disagreed strongly (47%) or somewhat (15%).
Political party preference made little difference in how people responded:
Democrats (27% agree, 61% disagree) were surprisingly statistically similar to the Republicans (28% agree, 62% disagree). Independents took a somewhat harder line than the two mainstream parties (22% agree, 67% disagree), but the difference wasn’t big, statistically speaking.
Next up: “Defunding the Defense Department.” On this, overall 33% agreed either strongly (15%) or somewhat (18%), while a majority of 54% disagreed strongly (17%) or somewhat (37%).
Party differences this time were more were apparent. Some 40% of Democrats agreed, while a small plurality of 47% disagreed.
Among Republicans, the gap was far wider: 29% agreed, 62% disagreed. Independents straddled the middle again: 30% agreed, 56% disagreed.
For a third question, voters were asked to agree or disagree with “amnesty for all illegal immigrants.”
This time, 34% agreed strongly (14%) or somewhat (19%), while a slim majority of 52% disagreed strongly (19%) or somewhat (33%).
This time, political affiliation really shaped the responses. A plurality of Democrats (44%) agreed, while a slender minority disagreed 41%. Meanwhile, just 27% of Republicans agreed, as a solid majority of 64% rejected the idea. Independents came in at 31% agreed, 51% disagreed.
So far, this is the only topic that found a plurality of political support for a DSA policy from any of the three major political affiliations, perhaps explaining in part why immigration has become such a big wedge issue at all levels of American politics.
On the fourth question, respondents were asked about “getting rid of the U.S. president and U.S. Supreme Court to be replaced by a chief executive and high court selected by Congress, not the people.”….
Ex soldier in custody in connection to attack on NYC federal building, was heavily armed: officials
U.S. and New York City officials on Monday afternoon identified the suspect in an attack earlier in the day on a federal building in Lower Manhattan as an Army veteran and provided more details of his alleged attack including that he was armed with a machete and ignited an improvised incendiary device of fireworks and inflammable liquid.
The incident occurred at about 9:30 a.m. outside 26 Federal Plaza.
The suspect, who was arrested at the scene and taken into custody, has been identified as 43-year-old former Army soldier Andrew Arrabaca.
Authorities at a press conference said he was carrying two axes, three knives, a hammer, a machete and six incendiary devices and that he also lit a fire outside the building by pouring gasoline on the ground and using a lighter to ignite it.
Three people, described as two federal workers and one civilian, suffered minor injuries. No deaths were reported.
FBI Assistant Director in Charge James Barnacle said Arrabaca “came armed with bad intentions” and that he was “looking to injure people and harm people.
Officials described the incident as an “anti-government attack on a federal facility,” and said Arrabaca had anti-Immigration and Customs Enforcement objects on him, including a sign that read “ICE Off Our Streets,” according to ABC News.
Election 2026: Prisoners in historic release by Cooper consistent in pattern
More than 700 prisoners released in addition to U.S. Senate candidate Roy Cooper’s historic settlement-based 3,500 have a pattern consistent with either homicide, sex offenses, other violent felonies and recidivism.
At first without names publicly known and with the Department of Public Safety saying prisoners convicted of crimes against other people were ineligible, the more than 4,200 have emerged as anything but and many are back in jail for new crimes.
The number beyond 3,500 released by the former governor’s subordinates included 24 charged in homicide-related offenses and 99 charged with sex offenses.
More than 1 in 4 – 195, or 27.7% – originally went to jail charged with homicide, sex offenses or violent felonies; and 349 since their release have new charges.
Of the latter, 125 have charges of homicide, sex offense or violent felony.
Cooper, governor of North Carolina after winning elections in 2016 and 2020, last week stepped away from responsibility of the settlement in the case NAACP v. Roy Cooper.
He told a gaggle of reporters at a campaign stump “the court ordered this,” said he fought the release of the prisoners because he thought it would be more, and accused Republican opponent Michael Whatley of lying about what transpired.
He said in part, “Prison officials made the decisions regarding specific prisoners.”…

Enough, in fact, for different Republican strategists each week to pitch “Roy Cooper’s Felon Friday” (since Feb. 27) and “Roy Cooper’s Worst of the Worst Wednesday” (since April 22).
And still not get some of the most heinous.
Yet to appear, though likely, is Randy Sharpe Jr. In 2019, he was convicted of assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a firearm by a felon. He shot his girlfriend in the leg while in a car and drove away with her 5-year-old.
Since release, he’s charged in a June 2022 homicide in addition to fatally killing two – a mother and son – while driving 100 mph in a December 2022 auto crash.
Lesselle Spencer is another. He was convicted in 2011 in a case where prosecutors said he tried to run over an officer, on foot with gun drawn, following a car chase.
In 2025, he was convicted of first-degree murder – having gone to a Big Lots store where his girlfriend was fired, and killed a man execution-style with a gunshot to the chest as the man’s wife of 35 years awaited him in the car.
He’s had 14 infractions with prison officials since sentencing, including setting fires.
Calvin Locklear is another yet to make the Wednesday and Friday lists. He was jailed after a 2011 manslaughter conviction from a 2008 armed robbery.
Even though he stabbed other inmates with pencils, he got out in 2020 only to return with parole revoked.

Trump to attend dignified transfer of US soldiers killed in Iran strikes
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt confirmed on Monday that President Trump will attend the dignified transfer of the Americans killed as a result of Iranian strikes over the weekend.
“President Trump will attend the dignified transfer of our fallen heroes tomorrow evening at Dover Air Force Base.
The President and the entire White House are praying for their families,” Leavitt said in a post on the social platform X.
Leavitt reposted a statement on Truth Social from Trump in which he warned that “every time Iran kills an American Soldier they will pay for that killing many times over!”
The development comes hours after the Pentagon identified two American soldiers killed in an Iranian attack in Jordan over the weekend as 1st Lt. Tyler Feehan and Pvt. Isabella Gonzales.
Gonzales was killed in action on Friday, while Feehan was killed in action the next day, amid an Iranian attack on Muwaffaq Salti Air Base — a Royal Jordanian Air Force base that Iran has frequently targeted amid its recent renewal of hostilities with the U.S.
A third U.S. service member was killed in Iraq over the weekend following the “controlled detonation” of an Iranian drone.
The U.S. launched retaliatory strikes against Iran on Saturday evening.
U.S. Central Command said U.S. forces hit Iranian military coastal surveillance and air defense facilities, maritime capabilities, and missile and drone storage sites.

GOP Eyes SAVE America Act in Shutdown Fight
Senate conservatives are increasingly open to tying President Donald Trump’s election integrity agenda to a government funding bill, setting up a high-stakes showdown with Democrats that could determine whether Congress avoids a shutdown before the Sept. 30 funding deadline, according to reports.
Several Senate Republicans aligned with Trump are willing to attach the SAVE America Act to a short-term continuing resolution, arguing the legislation is too important to leave behind, The Hill reported Monday.
However, incoming Senate Budget Committee Chair Ron Johnson, R-Wis., said he would support the proposal if it could pass.
“If we could pass it, I’d be in favor of it,” he told The Hill.
Johnson acknowledged Democrats likely would oppose the package but said he is willing to consider any legislative path that advances Trump’s top election priority.
Trump intensified the debate during his Thursday night primetime address, urging Americans to pressure Congress to pass the SAVE America Act and arguing stronger election safeguards are urgently needed.

Tennessee mom accused of executing young man on her front lawn claimed she found him HIDING under her daughter’s bed
A mom in Tennessee was arrested for murder when officers found a man dead on her front lawn after she claimed that she caught him hiding under her daughter’s bed.
Kendra Scott, 36, was taken into custody by the Memphis Police Department after officers responded to her home just before 2am on Thursday for reports of a shooting, according to an arrest affidavit.
Police made the grim discovery of a 20-year-old man unresponsive with a gunshot wound to the back of his head on Scott’s front porch.
Scott allegedly told officers at the scene that she ‘saw a dude under my kid’s bed and I did what I had to do,’ according to the warrant.
Scott’s daughter, who has not been named due to her age, identified the victim as a man named Rodderius Morton.
She told police that she had invited Morton to the home and he came in through the back door at 1am, the warrant stated.
About 20 minutes later, her mother came home and knocked loudly on the door, yelling, ‘Who’s at my house?’
The girl told police that she was scared because Scott had a gun and had previously threatened that if a boy was in the house, she would ‘put a hole in his a**.’
She said that when she let her mother into the room, Scott allegedly caught Morton hiding under the bed and collected his belongings before leaving the home.
The daughter added that Scott told Morton to ‘get out of my house b***h’ and she heard one gunshot when the two went out on the front porch.
A neighbor also reported that he went outside when he heard banging and saw Scott going into the home with a gun. …

If the Times does not produce the materials by July 21, a lawsuit will be filed in the New York County Supreme Court, according to a letter sent Tuesday by a coalition of lawyers representing the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR), a nonpartisan think-tank and beneficial Times shareholder. It is the second time that lawyers from the National Jewish Advocacy Center (NJAC)—and now several other firms who recently joined the effort—have demanded access to the news organization’s internal data and communications, accusing it of rampant anti-Israel bias and advocacy on behalf of prominent anti-Israel Democratic politicians like Platner—who withdrew in disgrace last week from Maine’s Senate race—as well as New York City mayor Zohran Mamdani.

NORAD: Fighter Jets Intercept Aircraft Violating Restrictions over New Jersey, Alerting Pilots with Flares
Several general aviation aircraft had entered the restricted airspace during a temporary flight restriction over Bedminster and East Rutherford, prompting NORAD’s fighter jets to respond, according to Fox News.
“More than 10 general aviation aircraft have entered restricted airspace today, three of which required intercepts by NORAD aircraft. During two of the intercepts, NORAD aircraft dispensed flares, which may have been visible to the public. The flares were used to draw the pilots’ attention. Flares are employed with the highest regard for safety, burn out quickly and completely, and pose no danger to people on the ground,” NORAD said, adding the general aviation aircraft were safely escorted from the area.
“Should NORAD aircraft intercept a general aviation aircraft, the pilot should immediately come up on frequency 121.5 or 243.0 and turn around to reverse course until receiving additional instructions on one of those frequencies,” NORAD continued.

In March 2025, fighter jets intercepted an aircraft over President Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home in Palm Beach, Florida, after “excessive” violations of NORAD’s temporary flight restrictions, according to Breitbart News.
“NORAD, which is tasked with monitoring and defending North American airspace, went on to disclose that it has intercepted more than 20 flight violations over Mar-a-Lago since President Trump took office just seven weeks ago,” the article said.
In September, NORAD said fighter jets responded to intercept Russian warplanes reported near Alaska, according to Breitbart News.
‘False positive’: FDA walks back cyclosporiasis test tied to Taylor Farms
The Food and Drug Administration said that a lab test linking Taylor Farms iceberg lettuce products to an ongoing cyclosporiasis outbreak that has sickened thousands of people was a false positive.
The FDA’s investigation into the outbreak in five states is ongoing and it is advising consumers not to consume the recalled Taylor Farms products, which included those served in Taco Bell locations and sold at certain Walmart stores. The agency is continuing to work with the company to get the product off shelves.
“Due to the complexity in detection of Cyclospora, FDA laboratory experts re-reviewed the sample results and have concluded that the finding does not represent true amplification and should be considered a false positive,” the agency said in a statement on Sunday, adding that it has no confirmed positive sample results at this time.
It is not uncommon for test results to be inconclusive, former FDA Commissioner Robert Califf told POLITICO.

On July 17, the FDA said its “traceback investigation identified convergence on a single supplier, Taylor Farms de Mexico, that provided shredded iceberg lettuce used by Taco Bell locations where sick people ate before becoming ill.”
But on Sunday, Taylor Farms said the FDA had “apologized” to the company for the false positive.
The company issued a recall for the lettuce “out of an abundance of caution” and said they are continuing to work with authorities to find the culprit….
What the FDA Knew—and When: The Case for a Black Box Warning on SSRIs for PSSD
A recent article in the DailyMail focused on what many who take antidepressants are reporting as sexual dysfunction.
Apparently, Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRI), antidepressants not only cause people to feel nothing – not good, not bad -they also are unable to experience sexual pleasure…and it could be permanent.
The problem, of course, is more than sexual dysfunction.
The bigger problem is that there is a risk of the psycho/pharma industry making the reported sexual dysfunction a mental illness, rather than call it what it is: an adverse effect of the SSRI drugs taken as “treatment” for depression.
After all that’s what the psycho/pharmaceutical industry does…finds ways to profit from people’s feelings, even when those feelings are caused by that industry.
In fact, it is of interest that the DailyMail article refers to sexual dysfunction as a “condition,” writing the “American Psychiatric Association (APA) to help psychiatrists diagnose conditions states ‘in some cases, SSRI-induced sexual dysfunction may persist after agent (SSRI antidepressant) is discontinued.’”
AbleChild cannot stress enough that the reported sexual dysfunction associated with antidepressant “treatment” is an adverse effect of the drug…not a mental disorder and certainly not something that needs to be “treated” with another mind-altering, mind-numbing drug.
Unfortunately, the inability to experience sexual pleasure is referred to as Post-SSRI Sexual Dysfunction (PSSD) and these adverse antidepressant side effects are not new.
An increasing number of people are reporting experiencing PSSD, with symptoms that include genital dysfunction, loss of libido, difficulty or inability to reach orgasm and feeling muted or no sexual pleasure.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has been aware of the emotional blunting, including sexual dysfunction associated with SSRIs for years but, unlike its counterparts in Europe, has failed to warn the public.
But this is typical of the FDA and the pharmaceutical industry’s control over it.
Recall that it took decades for the federal drug approval agency to approve the Black Box Warning for suicidality caused by antidepressant use. One can only wonder how many died because of the FDA’s lack of action on that front…..
Demers explains what happened to a PSSD sufferer.

By then, Prozac—the first SSRI—had been on the market for over a decade, and the agency had already received reports of persistent sexual dysfunction linked to the drug.
In 2011, pharmaceutical giant, Eli Lilly, informed the FDA of such cases from its clinical trials. Yet Mary, like millions of other Americans, was never warned of this risk.”
Demers says that “on October 25, 2018, she submitted the following public comment to the FDA: PSSD is the worst thing that can happen to a person. After taking Zoloft, my genitals felt completely numb and my emotions completely disappeared. I went from being a sexual, outgoing, cheerful person to having 0 emotions and 0 sexuality. In addition to all of the terrible withdrawal symptoms I experienced (and am still experiencing at over 2 years off Zoloft), PSSD has ruined every aspect of my life. Thanks for listening!”
Despite Koback’s public comments and call for help, Demers reveals that “exactly one year later, Mary took her own life.
She had only just turned 21. If she hadn’t taken that fateful decision over 6 years ago, Mary would be 27 years old today, only to realize that the FDA still hasn’t bothered to listen.”….
